I'm learning Blender and I find the materials and textures to be quite complicated and it must be hard to make a vid to teach it. My thanks to Chris for making this vid. I like the simplicity of the tutorial and it has helped me understand some basics VS other more in depth tutorials that have confused me. Now I can go back to them with a better understanding of some of the basics

If you still find yourself lost as to what to do? I'll use the best English I can produce to help Check--> Cube is selected Check--> Second screen displaying UV window Check--> First screen is in edit mode Check--> Press keyboard ( V ) and select unwrap. I Hope This Helped You :)

There are some flaws in this video. But overall it is very good as quick helper. Eg. I know my way around blender, but I didn't remember getting textures for blender internal (aka blender render). So this information was short and on the spot for me!

First did u go into edit mode Second follow his instructions clearly Third this tutorial is one of the best i have come across for UV mapping i would suggest trying it again and looking around at everything he is doing before rushing straight into what your doing

Instead of getting the option to unwrap the object, I get a menu titled "Make Single User".

With the object selected. Click Tab and it will take you into Edit mode. There when you click U, you will see the Unwrap.

My object will not update with the new material. It looks fine under the material tab. But in the viewport or during rendering it doesn't update. It does show up when I bake it. Also, if I change the diffuse color that will update.

What if the model has multiple textures and materials? How do I do it then?

Dunno if you still need this, but I'll still leave this for anyone else searching about this. When you unwrap an object, you can spread out the sections you've unwrapped and put those multiple textures into one image file. From there, you arrange the sections of the mesh onto the appropriate sections of the image file. Wood, stone, metal, whatever. If you'd rather do it the other way and arrange the textures to suit the UV arrangement, you can export the UV layout into an image format and overlay that on your textures file instead. You export with the 'Image' tab on the UV Layout window (between 'select' and 'UVs').

I've not experienced anything in software before like the confusion blender can induce. When you go through every single visible option to apply an imported image in UV editor to an object and cannot find one option that remotely relates to it then you know this program has been written by people who want this to remain esoteric and a high knowledge point of entry. When really a right click 'add image to object skin' or similar will suffice. I'm sure I'll eventually get there. Rant over.

essentially he only unwrapped one side of the box, and used a texture that hid the inconsistancies u get when you dont unwrap properly. Im not gonna type out the full instructions here, but if you do it correctly your box will look like a cross in the uvu menue, in other words it will look just as if you broke down a perfectly square cardboard box irl and laid it flat no flames to the author tho, at least your trying to help people instead of being an elitist dork like so many others

Hello there, I'm trying to follow your tutorial, but I already have a problem after Unwrapping. My model does not get unwrapped nicely onto the grid... how do I do that? Even rotating does not work. So I'm kinda stuck. The video amounts to a series of steps that a monkey could do without any explanations as to what is being done. UV Map is important and is glossed over with a hand wave. Very little information other than who to click and when.

Dude, we can't see your fingers hitting a button and selecting something, you do know that, right? Every single Blender "tutorial" is like this, "just hit squigglebip and select the oobiflip while hopping on one foot and learning Latin..." spoken at 500 miles an hour so you have to go back and watch that 2 seconds a hundred times just hoping you can follow the cursor or translate something he said to correspond with what you're seeing. I get this is complex software but just skipping over steps that it would take literally 5 seconds to explain doesn't help anyone.
