Add direct USB charging to IKEA smart blinds in just 5 minutes
I use this Micro USB 90 degree extension cable (V8DO-V8F 0.1m): a.aliexpress.com/_mM6Av42
I currently use a 5m micro usb cable to plug in and charge when needed but I plan on connecting parmanently and have it charge on schedule (and when the electricity is cheap).
If you prefer not using the battery, you can also use a 4-pin female battery connector ( a.aliexpress.com/_mNrKbf0 ), but then you will not be able to power via USB.

Fantastic, thank you for sharing this. Losing the connection to Home Assistant when removing the battery was a pita but by doing this, problem solved. Not having to think about it again... Priceless 😊

It's pretty wild that they did not include that charging port on the product. I suppose it makes for an "easy" installation. Or provides some form of safety. The batteries last pretty long, it's quite impressive, but once you have a few of these blinds, it can be a chore to keep them charged. At least they didn't follow the trend of sealed, non replaceable battery packs.

I thought the Ikea batteries used for the smart blinds has circuit protection not allowing it to charge and be connected at the same time - could you please update us on this? Does it work, does it show fully charged most/all the time, etc? I would like to do this but connect the Micro-USB pigtail to a solar panel.

Yes, they can charge and be connected at the same time. You can charge while opening and closing the blinds 😊

But why? We have 8 of them, I charge them every half year, and then they are still on 40-50 procent, so..... Don't understand why someone would attempt this, just because he can?

I also have 8. They last only 3-6 months (automatic up and down based on several conditions).

My plan is to have them automatically charge every 3 months so I don’t need to manually charge 8 blinds several times a year.

because my blinds will be 3 meters above the floor and i dont want to climb up every 6 months

@@karlkuzbiel4526 mine blinds are at the same heights. This is the perfect solution to charge them. I will control the charging with a Kasa smart outlet, approximately 5 minutes charging per day.
