Add Dutasteride to Daily Finasteride?

This is what I did. I added duta twice a week after ten years of using only finasteride because I was losing ground. After almost two months my hair is better than ever, but it came with some side effects. Lost of libido and sharp testicular pain, both gone away after the first month. But now on my second month I'm experiencing a sore throat, shallow breathing, and chest discomfort. I'm not sure if this is an allergic reaction, or maybe it's just a seasonal flu, but the thing is that I find it odd that I got this on my second month of treatment instead of rightaway (if it was an allergy).

Can you cover a paper called Minoxidil sulfotransferase enzymatical activity in plants? It's very recent but no one speaks about it... What would be some ways to use those plants to boost minoxidil's effects?

Does this work in a step-wise fashion? As in, would DUT 2x/week be equivalent to say 0.15-0.2mg per day and 3x/week would be 0.2-0.25mg per day and then we could just progressively go up to 0.5mg per day

Answered my question, appreciate it! I'm currently on fin but I like the idea of having dutasteride once a week as a back-up plan as opposed to fully switching over. Do you use this strategy in your practice at all?

Just my Story and two cents,been on Dutasteride 1mg (double dose)daily for two years. Previously on Finasteride 1mg for two years before I made the Switch to Dutasteride. However every year I Still lose some Ground...Ultimately I believe your Genetics will have the final say on how well someone will Respond to Dutasteride or Finasteride..just my view.

@@bradastra6111 you Know can't rule it out but I don't think so (hopefully).Just look at the pubmed Study s of people on Finasteride for 5 years..long Study short nearly half of them have gone on to experience further hair loss..

Maybe there’s underlying issues, one way you can know for sure if you’re hair loss is base on dht or not you can safely increase you’re dutastride dosage to 2.5 mg (5 pills per day) and study shows it will reduce you’re serum dht by 96% and you’re scalp dht by 80% that should be more than enough if it’s related to dht

​that's one consideration..however at that dose it's recommended to see your Gp regularly for Prostate testing as it apartley increases your likely hood of getting certain types of Prostate Cancer.

I'm 68. I take 0.5 mg of Dutasteride every day and 5mg of Oral Minoxidil daily as well. It works.

@@gonzaloNMF -No side effects, but it's different for everyone. Best bet is to give the Medications a try, and see if there aren't any side effects.

@@petermusto3704 Thanks for the quick response. I'm also on dut and was on oral min, but I had to quit min due to some very bad side effects. I was asking because I'm still on dut and some side effects like the testicular pain and decrease in libido have subdued, but now I'm experiencing a sore throat, shortness of breath and chest pain. I hope it's not some kind of allergic reaction.

Can switching topicl to oral minoxidol 1.25 can be better

This seems weird because neither fin or dut is supposed to give you more hair but just make you lose less or at a slower pace…

Great point - they often don’t. But some patients do get regrowth when 5AR blockers are started soon after hair is lost - ie miniaturisation is not too far gone. However, I agree that these medications are mainly useful for slowing down hair loss long term.

If daily dutastride at .5 mg is not enough is it better to go to 1mg dutastride( 2 tablet) or add daily propecia to the mix ? For example morning propecia and afternoon dutastride ?

If you're already on dutasteride every day adding propicia which is considerably less potent is unwise. If you are not o minoxidil already, consider that. If you are, add micro needling once a week.

If someone was on finastride for over a year and started losing ground should they add dut?

I think it would require an assessment of previous degree of loss, age of patient, what dose of finasteride, whether they experienced side effects. I also don’t usually recommend a completely sudden switch.
