Recommendation... Clone the hard drive to the NVME drive. Set the NVME as the boot drive and boom, done.

I don't understand how you were able to pry in between those spaces with a credit card to open it up. I have the exact same laptop and I've unscrewed everything etc but opening it up seems almost impossible or at the very least like I'm going to break the plastics if I try too hard.

you can replace your hdd with a 2.5 inch sata ssd , then you will have 2 ssd

If your motherboard has NVme interface, you could have that type ssd. If it only has SATA harddisk interface, you can only use sata type ssd. I think offical manual has already indicated what kind of device can be installed. A friendly reminder, all upgrade shall backup data and build an OS recovery USB drive respectively. After a new drive is installed, you may need that recovery USB drive to fresh install factory default OS image on it.

If I install a 3200mhz stick of 8gb ram will it run at the lower speed of the existing ram stick(possibly 2400mhz) or will it not get detected at all?

It will probably just run at the lower speed, but that's quite a significant difference in speed and may cause issues. Try to get the same speed memory.

The form factor of laptop ram is ‎SO-DIMM. You better downland the manual from the manufacturer's website to see what your model's supported, examples like maximum memory size on single strip, memory speed, etc.

Mine came with a single stick of 8GB at 2666mhz, but as the person above me said, it can vary. Check the performance tab on task manager and click on the memory section and it should tell you how fast it's running.

You can use your model to search/download the menu from HP website, to see whether it contains the slot. Please also check whether it supports NVME or NGFF (lower speed). Since NVME is not cheaper, you shall ensure the requirement before action.

I read the online menu from HP, and found it supported NVme. Therefore I bought WD Black NVme SSD for the replacement.

@@UncleDOSVlog Funny story about how this turned out: I went to Microcenter and got an M notched NVMe PCIE M.2 from Inland to replace the AHCI 128 B+M that it came with. I needed to clone the device so I bought a drive enclosure that could take an NVMe M.2 from Amazon. I clone the drive and swap the chip, no problem. Drive boots up with the new chip. BUT - the 128 that is now in the enclosure can't be recognized because the enclosure only takes NVMe and not AHCI. So now I have a 128g M.2 and drive enclosure for sale, lol.
