Awesome video! One of the more helpful ones out there! Thanks a lot 👌 I've come up with a theoretical question on the possibility of using a computer to record a sound on the ISD 1820. 1. Desolder and remove the microphone 2. Strip the ends of a 3.5mm jack 3. Solder the wires to the circuit board where the mic was 4. Plug 3.5mm jack into audio jack on computer 5. Press record on chip and play sound through computer In theory, this would allow the chip to record the signal being transmitted through the 3.5mm jack! But I've also thought of counterarguments, haha: • The 3.5mm jack is line-level. The ISD 1820 is expecting a mic-level signal to send to the "on-chip preamp" (according to a spec sheet). According to an article I googled, "connecting a line-level source […] to a mic-level input will cause the sound to be loud and distorted because the line signal is much stronger than what the mic input will accept". So that sucks. But perhaps difference in voltage can be mitigated by attaching a resistor to the 3.5mm? Step it down from the 1.000V range to the .001V-.010V range... Ok, my brain is hurting, I'll think about this part later. • I don't even know if the signals are compatible. I mean, I think they're both analog, and they obviously both involve sound frequencies, but what do I know? • All the 3.5mm cables I have lying around are stereo, so I would only be able to attach one channel to the circuit. I think this is inconsequential, though. If anyone is still reading this comment, tell me your thoughts! I'll probably be experimenting with this in the near future :)

First and foremost, yes... read the whole thing. Sounds like some great ideas to me and actually already more thought out than my first thoughts (I had not considered the counter arguments you came up with). If you get it to work I'd love to hear how it turned out. I also agree that the stereo input seems inconsequential to the effect. On the face of it the wiring seems straight forward but there is definitely a reason there are different input jacks for microphone and aux sources. Thanks for taking the time to watch my video and post the very kind comment... and follow-up thoughts.

I understand if you're not able to answer this but I do have an inquiry. I have a toy that moves, and I'm not able to replace the sound that's on the board inside it. I'm assuming that if I remove the speaker from the original board that will eliminate the problem of the original sound playing. So if I did that, and added as well a new board with a new sound, would there be a way for me to wire the new board up to the same button, so that the button both triggers the sound from the new board and the movement from the old board? I hope this makes sense >-

Do you mean having a longer recording that plays back for part of it and then when it is activated again it plays from where it last stopped? There are definitely modules that allow for multiple recordings and then they play back in sequence each time it is activated.

Thank you so much for the kind words. I like the idea you have and I think there are several ways to do this that range from somewhat simple to more complex. On the more simple side you could change the connection to each of the keys to separate sound chips by connecting the button under the key to the trigger connection on the chip. To be more efficient you could work down the options of micro-controllers to program a sound to each key. I'm wondering if Arduino or Raspberry Pi could do this easily.

[So sorry for the delay... life kinda got in the way for a bit] This sounds like a really fun project. I think the first place to start is the design and size. Once you have that in mind you can decide what you have space to add in. Sounds like you will need lights (some form of LEDs), a sound chip, a speaker and a battery pack to run them all. Thanks for taking the time to watch my video and post a comment.

Wow! This is EXACTLY what I've been looking for all day. Question about using different speakers though, is there anything that needs to be thought about when getting a higher quality speaker? Like do you need to alter the voltage, and is there a certain type of speaker I should look for that can give me a decent range as far as playback? Also, I know you showed using an upgraded power source and speaker with the ISD1820, but what about upgrading one of the ones that you can directly upload your own sounds to? Thanks!
@DialedInDIY
@DialedInDIY 3 жыл бұрын
Great questions. If you are trying to go big with speakers then you'll need an audio driver / power source but I've not needed to do that yet. I also use power packs to match the board requirements re volts. The other chip sets you can download to should do the same but if you double check the part specs from the seller you can get the precise limits. Hope that helps.

Hello, I was hoping you could help me with something regarding a sound thing like this. I had a box that when opened would play a song but when I put in a battery one day the battery exploded and the metal parts that hold the battery on place fell off. Is it possible to fix it or would it be better if I bought another sound module thing?
@DialedInDIY
@DialedInDIY 3 жыл бұрын
Depending upon how much damage was done to the other parts it could totally be fixable. If the battery left chemicals inside then you need to see if it can be safely cleaned up (which also depends on the type of battery). My guess is that the metal parts that came out slip into a section where they can actually be put back. If that is the case then it is simply a matter of making sure the metal contacts/touches the spots needed between the battery and the wires. I have this happen on old items that batteries were left inside for far too long. Usually I can just put parts back, clean the corrosion off with some sandpaper and get everything working again.

I'm pretty sure (but not positive) that it is Voice Module, 30s Recordable Music Sound Voice Module Chip 0.5W with Button Cell Battery (Wired Double Button Control) -- listed in the description with a link.

Hi i need help I just want to play one sound a few seconds long when the device is powered up
@DialedInDIY
@DialedInDIY 3 жыл бұрын
If you are wanting to add something like this to another device that you are powering up independently perhaps you can wire the button mechanism to the on/off switch of the device. If the device you are connecting it to is the source of power for this chip set then it is probably even easier. Just make sure the power from device is compatible with power the chip set needs. Hope that makes sense.

Is there a way to do this but have multiple messages, each one activated by a different switch? For example, if I wanted to put it in a stuff animal and have one message in the arm, one in the leg and one in the stomach but only one chip.
