A simple 1 watt 100 ohm resistor soldered between PA and EXT jacks will give your CB radio basic talkback functions! Easy!

There is know exact value ..it all comes down to frequency response of the person's voice ..the radio audio circuit and output voltages on the circuit .. what value that mught work for one radio my bit work for the other..it all depends on ehat i been modified of done to the audio chain ..of the radio has open amc and limitors these values will only make the talkback squeel .. it is completely dependent on the circuit itself... If the radio is stock or non abused and the limiter left alone 1/4- 1 watt at 100 ohms will get u started ..if u wanting a fixed talkback were only a resistors is used ,wich i do t recommend..then the 100 ohm 1/4-1 watt will work ......

I knew how to add the talk back for a long long time. But I only added it to CB radios That I added Echo boards to. It helps to set to the way you want it to sounds. Otherwise you have no idea what a sounds like until someone on the air says, That sounds horrible. And then tries to explain how it sounds. And will often just confuse you. So adding talk back solves the issue. And I have always added a switch because once it is setup, then I never ever turned it on again.

U can play with the potentiometer k value in characteristics of the resistor value .. both will give u exactly what u want ..... I recommend u use a reley and a variable..beat of luck...1/4 -1 watt resitor at 100 ohm .. use 500 - 1 k pot u can use a push in variable to switch the talkback .. all in one .. push the knob in yalk back in push again talk back off ...very bery simple ..ive stated above why useing a reley is important... Hope this helps u improve tour talkback circuits i. The future ..73s from justin Oklahoma 9lb 🔨...5180 on ssb

I’m not big on these truck stop talkback mods, so I’ve designed my own here in the last month. It’s more so of an audio monitor circuit so the sound quality is beautiful. Here’s a link to the demonstration👇🏻 kzbin.info/www/bejne/fWLHeaKElseLiJo

Sweet , very simple . Question ,, if you want the talkback really loud if you have trouble hearing like me and you need it LOUD ,, what value of resistor do you use , more than 100 ohm or less ? Where is a good source to buy a pack of these of good quality ? And what brand ? I should know this stuff already but I’ve been lazy in starting the learning process
@JohnnyNJones3 жыл бұрын
If you want louder sound go for a lower resistance The brand shouldn’t matter much at all, They are pretty much all made in the same place It’s a pretty easy job

Do i still need the resistor inline if i unsolder channel 9 and use that switch or do i just solder seperate wires from pa and ext to the switch?
@JohnnyNJones5 ай бұрын
You can use the channel 9 switch or any switch you’d like, but you will be better off having a resistor in line. Otherwise, the talkback will be very loud and distorted.

Thos will work ,but should not be done ...honestly ..i can exsplain, your looping the pa output thats all talk back is ..putting the audio and looping it in the transmitters recive ...it works ..but if u fully understand whats taking place its hard hard on the audio IC....your bleeding off audio vomtages to be disapated in the resistor ..ther is a much much better eay to electricaly produce the same curcuit wich is mych much better and dosent negativity effect voltages. Basically your taking energy away from rf output audio chain.... Trust me 30 yrs as a tech.... Always use a reley switches talkback .by taoping in directly and having it switch and feed ....best of luck..yes u can also run a variable control talkback using the reley circuit im explaining.... A food talk acj circuit uses a reley always ..and ive explained why above .... I am trying to be honestly helpful and teach ..not be arragant and a ass hole ...hope u understand this best of luck ..73s ..i want new upcoming operators or hobbiest to learn things and i love seeing .it...keep ot up jhonny 73s 9lb hammwr Oklahoma 5180 justin

Thanks for doing that That was easy Bull crap though The diaples work great sometimes better than vertical antennas You might see my profile screen and see that I'm young that doesn't mean anything I know a fair amount about Radios
@JohnnyNJones Жыл бұрын
Dipoles are great for skip if they are horizontally polarized. They are less efficient when talking to verticals locally because of the polarization. So you’ll have an easier time getting contacts locally with a vertically polarized antenna

Do you need the resistor if you go with a potentiometer
@JohnnyNJones Жыл бұрын
Personally I would tinker around with it. Try it with a potentiometer set to maximum and if it is too loud put in a resistor 👍

What resistance value should the potentiometer be? 1k ohms?
@JohnnyNJones Жыл бұрын
You can play around with the values but 100 ohms is what I used. You might have to use a little higher resistance if it sounds rough.

@@JohnnyNJones Thanks I used 150 just loud enough with an external speaker, I'm thinking I'm might piggyback it to the cb/pa switch so I can turn it on and off. thanks for the video. As for the soldering iron I'd definitely invest in a ts100 or pinecil if you haven't already, night and day difference

Can you tell me which posts on the bright/dim switch I need to connect to, on my Cobra 29 ltd classic, please? And, do I put the resistor in line with the wire to the PA, coming off the switch, or in line with the speaker side and wire to the switch?
@JohnnyNJones2 жыл бұрын
I can’t tell you which posts to use, what you’ll have to do is get yourself a schematic to help you out But it would appear to me that one of the pins will include some dropping resistors to limit the current flowing through the display. Look up a cobra 29 LTD classic schematic and study it, as well as a top and bottom board view schematic And all your doing with the resistor is feeding your speaker with a bit of your signal So attach one leg of the resistor on the middle pin of your PA Jack and the other leg of the resistor on the middle pin of your ext speaker jack. Touch the legs to the pins first and then speak into your mic and make sure it’s not going to be too loud before you solder them in

Great video. If I want to put that on my tone switch on a 29 NW classic. Do I still need a resistor?
@JohnnyNJones3 жыл бұрын
It would be hard for me to tell you, a tone control circuit has Capacitors and inductors for equalization, so adding those in series may cause other issues I’m not sure. But the biggest issue would be the fact that the resistance would be too high I think most variable resistors like that are around 500 to 1.5 K ohms. For this you need about 100 ohms of resistance But I can’t tell you if it will work or not for sure. I wish I could be of more help
@taadventures63123 жыл бұрын
Ok thanks for the reply. So if I decide to run two wires from the Rf gain potentiometer do I still need the resistor in the back connect to the pa and speaker points?
@JohnnyNJones3 жыл бұрын
@@taadventures6312 i think it would be to much resistance to keep the resistor on Try it without the resistor

Does this mess up the PA system part of it
@JohnnyNJones4 жыл бұрын
Hmmm interesting question It shouldn't, the PA jack should still work but having the resistor in place could split the current, but I'm no expert, only a beginner. Very good question though, I'll have to make a video on it. However the resistor doesn't cause any damage so it can easily be taken out if needed.
