I’m still mad about what they did to Morticia in the first movie. The Addams have always been aggressively accepting of other people, it’s part of the reason the family is so big. For her to blanch at her daughter’s new look and be standoffish to the town is completely off base. Conflict should never come from the family but from outside it.

The only times they've ever cast a good Gomez were John Astin and Raul Julia (love ya, Tim Curry, but not even you could make a convincing Gomez). Because of this, I don't mind focus shifting to Wednesday, as she isn't as difficult to set up. I've never cared for Pugsly, so it never mattered who they chose. What I'm wondering is how could they mess up Fester? Even Lloyds more serious version was better than this. I do have one question, though. Can the Addams Family even work in modern times? In the 90s and the decades prior, it worked because they were oddballs in a world where conformity was the norm. Nowadays, where everyone is trying to stand out from the crowd, how could they remain these oddballs that society rejects?

Yep, still have no desire to see the animated version, sticking with the live action versions and Debbie is still the best villain. I will say though, something that kinda bugs me about all of the Addams Family movies so far is that Thing isn't confined to boxes and other containers. When I watched the TV show growing up, I always imagined that there was some weird transdimensional layer to the house, and not only was that how he retrieved the mail and traveled from room to room, we couldn't even be sure of exactly what Thing was. There's just so much about the house and the family that defy logic, and for me at least (and despite some good jokes and visuals), the movies went and spoiled some of it by making Thing just be a G-rated disembodied hand.

At this point it feels like everyone is not getting what the Addams are about. Its about the family being affectionate while unsettlingly dark, when the rest of the world is normal but cold. Like in the modern age, I would lean more to their supernaturally dark behaviors as well as love for genuinely disturbing things. A lack of social media or care for trends as always. And like the Addams Musical (another where Parents are wary of outsiders, and its Wednesday having conflict with her family over a romantic interest being a normie) says ‘its family first and family last and family by and by’

I’m normally one for an adaptation being as close to its source material as it possibly can be, but I really enjoy the tv sitcom characterizations of the Addams from the 60s the best, they really gave off the vibe of genuinely caring, and kind people who just so happen to find beauty in the macabre, and strange. I don't think it's really fair to bash on Luca. As a gay guy, I really appreciated the focus on childhood friendship in the movie. It really reminded me of the times I had as a child before life got complicated and harsh. Being gay has brought a lot of hardship in my life and I appreciate having a little escape from that. I also appreciated how there was no romance at all between the characters and Guillia, because I would have been against that too. Sometimes people (mostly straight people) are waaaaay too enthusiastic to label two characters as LGBT+ and get super aggressive when they turn out to not be or just not interested in any romance. I feel for the director and hope he isn't still being harassed and called homophobic for wanting to make a movie that reminisces his own childhood

Thank you so much for bringing up the Sherman and Penny “Relationship” in that list. Even when I was younger and I saw it for the first time, the fact that he had romantic feelings for her always confused me, and it makes even less sense looking back. Now, personally, I didn’t interpret Luca and Alberto’s relationship as romantic, and I do disagree with the notion that they’re relationship *had* to be romantic for the film to “work” (not that I believe you’re saying that, just speaking generally), but I even more strongly disagree with the notion that they could never have had any romantic feelings for each other solely because they’re a bit young, especially when you have shit like Sherman and Penny that have happened recently.

For example it is objectively shown that pugsley has a crush on this girl who he thinks is a human. Where as in Luca(didn't watch it yet, im behind on my movies, haven't even watched soul yet) fans are interpreting the two boys who could just be friends into having something deeper? There's no doubt in my mind that ppl would be upset even if in the movie the boys objectively had feelings because that's just how some ppl are, but there is a current rise in ppl shipping characters that don't show any signs of having an interest in eachother and then getting upset at the creators or other people that don't see the show or their character pairings the same way they do. Look at my hero academia and voltron for example. Even I fall into it sometimes wondering if a set of characters have been written to get together at a later date or if their character dynamics are pretty good but it's never been a must have. All in all I can understand that some things are left up to interpretation and if ppl want to believe that two characters are in a relationship it doesn't ruin my day but it does get annoying when ppl push things that they've been told isn't the case(didn't the creators for luca say they're just friends?).

@@busyg67 I may misinterpret the problem and shipping can definitely be seen as exhausting if one doesn't control themself and wants every character to be in a relationship. If you extrapolate/come to your own belief that a pair of characters are in a relationship thats fine. Keep it to yourself or your own community. The moment people get vocal about their fanfiction/head canon is when it becomes "cringe" on both sides. Most people would probably look at those anime lovers that said sasuke with ino, sasuke x naruto, etc with slight disdain or annoyance. When in reality the pairing is already set in stone. When the creator of luca tells the community that those feelings of love aren't there between the characters. The community takes it negatively. There are probably those thickheaded people that just hate homosexuality and don't want it in the media no matter what but the luca shippers are taking a square block and trying to fit it into a triangular hole.

In the early 2000s Disney pumped out a lot of direct-to-DVD sequels to their beloved films, but most of them sucked. The only good ones were Aladin 3, (had terrible animation but great story and characters) Return to Neverland, Lion King 2, Lion King 1.5, and the best of all, Cinderella 3. One of Disney's all time best movies and by far the best D2D movies, better than the original by miles. For Hotel Transelvania there are 4 movies so far, though the 4th one hasn't come out yet. The third one was the cruise vacation one, btw.

Coming off what you asked about The Ghost and Molly McGee, I’m very excited for the series! I’ve watched 3 episodes and it’s so cute! One thing I have a problem with is that I feel like I know how season 1 will end, either Molly will have to more or Scratch will almost disappear because he’s not scaring enough humans. I think showing the kids themselves being happy about getting a participation trophy is the most unbelievable thing about this whole movie, the kids weren't the people who were happy about those stupid things it's the crazy ass parents.

I just realized Wednesday's braids are done up like nooses. That's a pretty great detail. I have no interest in seeing the Addams Family movies but the tie-in pancakes IHOP made for the first movie kinda slapped. They also made a tie-in hot chocolate with a stomach-churning amount of purple dye that wasn't as great.

Great video as always. Also, Netflix just released a new series called "Maya and the three" which takes place in Mesoamerica. The whole premise of the series takes a lot of inspiration from Mayan and Aztec imagery and ideas. It was not heavily advertised but could be fun to review.

See I don’t even think the Addams family and to an extent, HT writers are lazy or incompetent. I feel like any series that even attempts dark humor gets corporatized to death. It’s partially because corporations follow trends to maximize profit and partially corporation staying away from anything that could upset Puritan culture. This means that all the franchises, including comic/hero franchises, have been watered down to satisfy as many people as possible. They’ve all simply lost their identities along the way.

What I DON'T understand about the 2nd addams crud is that if they were stuck in a house for 13 yrs, then how the heck could wednesday been switched at birth? They would have been in the mansion when she was born. She couldn't have really been born in a hospital.
