Great job, Rick, ferreting out all the detail of the Addams Family finances. I always thought that Gomez was an investment banker or independent stock investor, with him always checking the stock market ticker tape. Im kind of a stickler for details. So i found this information interesting. I actually walked out of the theater during the Addams family movie because Gomez was driving. I thought. "Well if the writers and directors had Gomez driving they didn't love the show its just for money. " so i left and have never seen the movies.

@Rick, I just subbed to your channel & I love it, great videos and info on my favorite programs growing up. I among many other fans, really appreciate the lesser known background info on the shows characters and the actors & actresses that portrayed them, good job! 👍👍😁 Personally I think that Gomez earned & maintained most of his families income from his real estate holdings, the stock market and a few fortunate real estate mistakes he inadvertently had made along with some wise purchases, sales and acquisitions...

I have seen all 64 episodes in order, love them. They are a timeless classic to me. Even though I am WAY younger than the TV show itself, I am 28 years old. But, I oddly grew up watching this first, rather than the movies or cartoon show. Now, I did watch a bit of the Cartoon show when I was a kid, lol. But, I prefer the TV show more.*

I just watched the Christmas episode, when they all dress up as Santa. The Maharaja sent him a rope in a basket. "That 400 pound..." Gomez commented. Morticia asks, "What did you send to him this year?" Gomez: "His weight in [ ] rubies." Quotes might not be exact. But I thought, WOW, Gomez is rich! 400 pounds of [some exotic sounding name - Burmese?] rubies! That is 907,184 carats!

I love the Addams Family. I always had the impression the Addams' wealth was family money, inherited, invested, and ever-accumulating over the generations (so Gomez had no qualms about burning it, figuratively or literally). I further imagined all the extended family descendants, such as Cousin Itt, were beneficiaries of the massive estate. Like the real-world Du Pont family heirs. I guess, mostly, I thought this because all the Addamses seemed too weird to get normal jobs. Regarding Gomez' profession: in the real world, of course, it's common for people who are already independently wealthy (family money types) to study law and become attorneys. It's always been considered one of the "respectable" lines of work among the elite, upper-class sort. Yes, the 1991 film canonized my presumed financial backstory for the family (I guess I wasn't the only one to have formed the impression) but I had taken this notion long before, while being a childhood fan of the TV series. Love your Addams Family videos, Rick. Thanks.

as i right this i’m early in the video. remember the episode where the honeymooners rented the house next door, abouts mid to late in the episode, when the honeymooners brung up work as an issue to end the lease, yeah he ended up buying the guys company so they could be neighbors forever. that (other than the mansion and everything in it), is when i officially knew they were rich. okay as i’m finishing this comment, i’m at the end of the video.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that Gomez had actually been losing his family fortune for years. But the fortune was so vast that they were still rich. Can't remember where I heard this but it would make sense. His stock market picks are always terrible and always seems to sell at a major loss.

I would never have guessed lawyer. The impression I always got was he was a financier. You might question the wisdom of some of the companies, but he owned shares in a lot of companies. Was very active in the stock market. And was always doling out the petty cash for someone to start doing some activity. In fact that's was always how my The Munsters/Addams family crossovers started. Grandpa would come up with an invention, and turn to Gomez to finance it.

The whole family is rich though not just Gomez. Meaning cuz. IT and the rest. So is that 2 Billion just him or the whole family combined? I remember him saying that he was responsible for so many people going to the electric chair, so that makes since he was a lawyer. Albeit a bad one if so many of his clients went to the chair. He was so proud of it that it makes since that, that wasn’t his plan all along. I guess that makes him a serial killer. I love the Addams Family. I have always thought I would want them on my side in a fight. They so love to set people up to hang themselves.

rick nineg - I wonder if Hollywood was making fun of the Rockefeller’s with this TV family. I have read the book the artist put out of his drawings. The real Addams family was normal. Not like this TV family at all. Do not to have to pay royalties to the original artist they made them really strange. And since Rockefeller was alive and a bit eccentric, maybe this is a poke at him/them.
