The original owner of the trains was very upset when the trains were crashed and blown up. He did as anyone would expect. He got upset. The trains were still used. The trains were not badly burned or wrecked, but the owner did not want them to be blown up again. That is why the same wreck scene is used over and over. As a model railroader. I would have done the same thing. LOL

I built the "new" version of this silliness for The New Addams Family. We didn't have as much room, so it was merely a bent loop, some scenery, and a collapsible bridge for the crash scenes. The first time, it was a bit of a fiasco, and everyone (including the director) just looked at me - I'm in props, not directing! The pyro guys had a steel dish something that exploded with a battery charge under the bridge, and Gomez had a dummy detonator in his hand. "Okay," I finally said. "Gomez, when you see the pilot of the locomotive reach the bridge, give us a nice big twist on the detonator. Pyro, that's your cue." So that's how we reenacted the original scene with the man from school!

That is soooo cool! Thank you so much for sharing this story. It is interesting the prop magic that can be done. Did you work on the New Addams family movie? What did you make your layout for? Your story is very interesting. Thank you for taking the time to comment and watch my video.

@@GfwTrains The New Addams Family was a successful remake of the original TV show, running on FOX from 1998-99. It used the original scripts, with a few mods and updates where appropriate. The union couldn't provide a modelmaker for the railroad job, and I got it as a contract. It was lots of fun in a good atmosphere, and half a dozen people swore they'd have the the layout for themselves after the show wrapped! I wasn't around at the end, so I don't know what eventually happened to it.

How as a model railroader myself you would think I would love all the train related scenes in the show. The only problem is now is that I've been asked so many times by people have we ever Gomzed our trains before and of course given the expensive nature of the trains the newer is NO. People don't truly understand how expensive this stuff is until they either look or get into the hobby so for me these scenes give a false impression on what model railroaders do. On a side note I never realized the one GP9 diesel is an M&St.L red with white stripe paint scheme. Pretty cool I think they had it in there.

Hopefully, you’re not destroying your trains like Gomez Addams here. Wouldn’t it be a hoot if Gomez and Pugsley re-enacted all the crashes from Unstoppable with HO Scale trains in the modern day? They’d probably take it a step further and see to it that their 777 ACTUALLY DOES derail in Stanton on their layout. To ensure maximum destruction, Gomez and Pugsley would probably add tiny amounts of Tannerite explosive and super tiny signal transmitters inside the shells of the tanker cars; the fuel tanks on the diesels; and inside the fuel storage tanks in Stanton. All they’d need is a few properly labeled detonators to ensure that they don’t set off the wrong explosives either too early or too late and an audience on hand to witness the HO Scale carnage. I could also see them possibly re-enacting the head-on collision from Under Siege 2: Dark Territory and all the mishaps from Runaway Train (1985) and Atomic Train (1999). For the nuclear explosion in the latter film, they’d probably have to rely on at least two pounds of Tannerite to get the desired effect without leveling the train room (or the Addams Family mansion, for that matter).

NOticed for the first time whilst watching this video. All of the trains on the layout are DIESEL, yet there is a STEAM TRAIN sound effect !!! LOL Like in FLying HIgh / Airplane.

There is a lot of "TV magic" going on there. You have to love the Addams family. Thanks for watching.

great editing,great to see all the uncut train bits!. of note i don't think the twillight zone set is the same one there looks more to it . also some of the trains on the addams family are marx not lionel. as for the train wrecks it looks like the same explosion was used for each show. it was only done once/ great show!
@GfwTrains4 жыл бұрын
I love the Addams family and I love that they used trains as a prop on the show. You are right, they are probably different layouts. After doing some more research, I think the layout design was a stock Lionel factory display layout. Thanks for watching.

Now, kids, here's your math question for today: one train leaves Chicago at 2 PM, heading west, at an average speed of 50 mph. Another train on the same railroad leaves Los Angeles at 1 PM, heading east, at an average speed of 53 mph. At what time will the two trains be switched onto the same track of the Addams Family Railroad, and how long after that will they crash into each other?
@GfwTrains Жыл бұрын
You are hilarious. I would have liked to solve that problem in math class. Thanks for watching.

I never knew the Addams Family has an obsession with trains. Especially model trains. Simultaneously I would never have an attempt to crash my model trains. That's not a thing Walt Disney or Ward Kimball would do with their model trains.
@GfwTrains Жыл бұрын
No, Walt and Ward sure would not have done that. That said, if you have never seen the movie Model Railroading Unlimited (it is on KZbin) you must. It is made by Ward Kimball and is a fun take on trains...with a few being crashed...well almost. You will love it. Look it up. Thanks for watching.

I always enjoyed the Addams family tv show and liked when he ran and wrecked them by blowing the bridge. One year we had a New Year’s Eve party and after a few drinks someone said John you have a large Lionel train layout. What do you say we play Addams family train time. Well I could not set up a bridge crash but I said it would be ok to blow up one of my older gondola cars. I had some small firecrackers so I put one in the gondola and lit the fuse. The train made it around the layout once then bang. The explosion blew a hole in the side of the car and derailed the train. I only did it once since I did not want to destroy more of my trains. By the way I used the open gondola because if it was in an enclosed car there may have been more plastic blown out and maybe hit someone. However I do not recommend this due to the safety issues of the exploding car. Lionel did manufacture a missal car that launched a rocket that you could hit a target that would fall apart if you hit it. This would be the safer alternative to play Addams Family trains.
