I love the yin and yang of Marlin and Lonny. Marlin is super intense and reactive, and Lonny is calm, cool and collected.

Couple years ago we were trolling just below the Astoria Bridge. Using Pro-Trolls with the do it yourself release. The one that uses a Krippled Lure Red Pin. I had a fish tugging on the rod. Pick Up the rod from the rod holder and feel the fish then nothing. Reel in and all my gear but the Pro-Troll is gone. The 60 pound test leader goes through the top eye of the Pro-Troll. So that top eye had to of come apart. Just weird whatever happened.

I think that rogue came from the creek that runs into young’s bay. They have a run of rogues and we used to catch them all the time.

Noticed people using scissors to cut the gills of salmon. I watched a video last year where the guys was showing to use cheap pruning shears. I picked up a cheap pair and used them last year and had to buy another pair for this year. Salt rusted them up. Works really good and really bleeds fish a lot better and easier. I cut the whole area below the gills.
@AddictedFishing6 жыл бұрын
Scissors work awesome!
@Askeyb20116 жыл бұрын
@@AddictedFishing I think you should try pruning shears. Work real easy and bleed a fish really well. We fillet our salmon at the Warrenton Marina. I gave the eggs to a guide. He repeatedly commented on how the fish was bled .
@Askeyb20116 жыл бұрын
I would recommend trying a cheap pruning shear. If I could post a picture I could show you what I'm talking about. Of course I can't find the video now. I have been doing this since Buoy 10 2016 and it works good.We moored at Warrenton August 2016. I used pruning shears to cut the bottom of the fish near the gills to bleed all of our fish. At the cleaning station a guide asked if I wanted the eggs I told him he can have them. He commented repeatedly how well the fish had been bleed. I bonk the salmon and then hold them over the fish box and cut with the shears. Blood comes squirting out. Put in the fish box and add water to help. After a bit then put them in the kill bag with plenty of ice.

The fish was not headed to the Rogue River or Young's Bay, though the Young's Bay stock is from the Rogue River. In fact, that fish was headed to the Lewis River. The Young's Bay SAB is only clipped on the left ventral fin. Never a clipped adipose. The Lewis River clips the adipose and the left ventral.

No way and anchor lines going to cut 65 lb braid like that not to mention if it was an anchor or anchor line you would have broke the rod a clean-cut like that would be from a scute on a sturgeon. :)

@@AddictedFishing Not trying to pick a fight just curious did you grow up with a spinning reel as your reel of choice? here is my take you want the rod in your weak hand right handers should hold the pole in their left and visa versa for lefties so, you can use your right or left for the net ,gaff reel adjustment etc I grew up with a casting reel or conventional reel .. but hey I get it everyone is different all the best to ya...

Some solid techniques, and you're all clearly talented young fishermen. However, I am NOT a fan of the disrespectful language you use when you talk about the salmon themselves. "Bonk"? Really? And you don't "tap that ass" of a salmon. I suppose you assume your audience is a bunch of young "rebel wannabe" types, but I'm not. I'm new to salmon fishing, and I want to "learn" be "educated" and be "inspired" by your videos. Your lack of respect for the fish themselves exhibits none of the qualities that are in the vision statement at the start of your videos. You really need to respect your quarry in every aspect. It's not just about the kill, or how macho you are because you caught your limit quickly, or because you caught the biggest fish of the day. Salmon populations overall are dwindling, and it's likely you won't be fishing this well or effectively for much longer. I think a little reverence and gratitude are in order. Why don't you "inspire" us by modeling respect for the magnificent resource you are harvesting and exploiting?
