Terrible. I just started steelhead fishing end of November and I have never hooked a steelhead. But I got to reel one in.

I live in Connecticut. We don’t have native Steelhead, but we do have Atlantic Salmon. Very similar fish I’d say the differences are only in appearance. Caught one 8lb and another roughly 3. We have a lot of old growth forests here with wild fish and unexplored land with loads of creeks and brooks that these fish love. I’d like to see u guys come out this way sometime.

all rainbow trout for me, but its been a great season so far. caught a couple monsters in dolores river and a few dozen in the stock ponds up the road. watched an eagle catch a fish out of the same pond we were fishing on my birthday! Great season :)

I spent a lot of time on that river with my dad and my brothers. I didn't get to fish it this year, but I got my elk 2nd day of muzzleloader season about 3 miles away from the park boundary. That river will always hold a special place in my heart.

Nice Wild Places realization, Jordan. Broodstocking giving you guy's unrealistic expectations for the future. Habitat and ocean conditions play a huge part in what you reap. Gotta start teaching people how to protect fish more after we land them, 30 second releases, heads in water, ect.

I just caught my first Steelhead on Saturday! It was a beautiful chrome very early summer fish or late winter. I caught it while fishing for bass! It was a 20 minute fight 😂 it was 10.9 and 35 inches! And then I caught another one that was 11.8. Again while fishing for bass!

I’m 19 and I just got into steelhead fishing last year. It’s depressing that I’m getting into a dying fishery. With all the issues they face finding a saving solution for these fish seems impossible. To list just a few of the problems they face, predation, c&r mortality, poaching, dams, warming ocean conditions, lack of food in the oceans, poaching in the ocean, smolt mortality, destruction of habitat from roads, logging, development, in some cases bad hatchery management. All of these issues branch out and there’s debates regarding what to do to resolve them. Then there’s a lack of unbiased solid science based studies needed to help make decisions on solutions to these issues. The process to even get started on a solution to a issues takes so long. I’m just thinking Rip these fish. Nobody wants to take the hit for these fish and lose profits etc in sake of possibly helping/saving fish. Our future generations will be left with small runs of hatchery fish and bass to fish for 🤷‍♂️.
