When I was young, it seemed that life was so wonderful, A miracle, oh it was beautiful, magical And all the birds in the trees, well they'd be singing so happily, Oh joyfully, playfully watching me But then they send me away to teach me how to be sensible, Logical, oh responsible, practical And they showed me a world where I could be so dependable, Oh clinical, oh intellectual, cynical There are times when all the world's asleep, The questions run too deep For such a simple man Won't you please, please tell me what we've learned I know it sounds absurd Please tell me who I am (Supertramp - The Logical Song)

This is what I learned in "A Course in Miracles"! The dreamer is not the dream. To awaken within the dream - is to end the dream of separation or the "dream of sin" - which never happened. The required course. "nothing real can be threatened. Nothing unreal exists. Herein lies the peace of God."

zabelicious I agree that emotional states are usually what triggers alcohol and drug addictions, but as a former drug addict myself I can tell you that addiction to substances involves a complex physiological process in the body that usually can't be beaten with getting to the root of the emotional problem or using self-inquiry alone. The power of the addiction is just too strong and will overwhelm your capacity to mindfully overcome it. I know from years of struggling to beat the addiction with meditation and yoga and both failed miserably. Once I got appropriate treatment from a specialist who could get rid of the physical basis of the addiction, then the traditional tools became a very powerful adjunct to avoid relapse. So I must caution you not to think physical addiction is the same as emotional addiction, the former often needs the sort of help that spiritual teachers alone can't provide and frequently don't understand.

Valar, maybe you're still on-line, the comment was 3 years ago. What did the specialist give you to help with the physical basis of addiction?

And they have pranic healing techniques they have mastered that can aid them in doing that, just as a healer did with my symptoms. ....and to further my analogy what happens is people become accustomed to the electric shock from the fence and thus keep doing it. That's the addiction. This truth that all joy actually comes from within is the truth that will set you free if you go through with undoing the addictions from material things. That doesn't mean you can't enjoy material things from time to time but you will have the knowing and understanding that it does have a downside and you won't get your main source of...

He does both. He charges but also does satsangs for free. His Satsangs seem fairly cheap to me. Ive been watching Mooji for free on the internet for years. Maybe it's changed but all his live satsangs Ive watched were free. But basically this is a dude who lets people in his house for free, who does free satsangs, who when he charges is cheap, who lives very very simply. He is -by most peoples standards- clearly not in it for the money. If he is, he is a terrible businessman.

To be free from addictions(of any kind, it could be as simple as watching TV too much) is to be truly free. To realize all joy comes from within and to get your joy from that. All material pleasures have a downside. They make you kind of happy temporarily and the happiness has an opposite. Trying to get lasting happiness from material pleasures is like touching an electric fence. Sooner or later you have to learn, if I do this I get shocked....

Another type of subtle addiction, is addiction to thinking. Addiction to the ego. That causes tremendous suffering for people if they are unaware of it. it's not that you totally stop thinking completely forever. It's that when you think you develop the ability(from practice such as meditation) to step back from your thoughts and realize that you aren't the thoughts so they no longer bother you.
@SuperAllenwill5 жыл бұрын
Billy32210, you couldn't be more correct. Compulsive thinking is an addiction. The world's peoples have for centuries believed that we humans are the thinkers. When in fact, we as human beings have egoic minds that perpetrate the thinking process. The ego is clever but its not intelligent. We as humans simply cling to subliminal universal thoughts from which we build our little personalities and we call them "me". What it comes down to is that Mooji and most if not all Spiritual teachers are trying to get mankind to understand is that there is only one TRUE thinker, and if we want to move forward and free ourselves from these addictions, then its time to let go of the little "me". It takes daily practice, prayer and meditation... but the rewards are out of this world.
@NJB289 жыл бұрын
My understanding of what he is saying is that he does understand the complexities of addiction. When he talks of dealing with it on a level of your identity being I am this person, with this past and family etc., then he says "you're in for a bumpy ride." What he is saying is to get in touch with the one who knows that it knows. It is difficult for me as well. But if you want someone to give you easy answers to solve your worldly problems. Then Mooji isn't the one to seek.
@Mwaterfall7 жыл бұрын
David Kulesh - But Mooji appeals to the will-power over addictions, and to have will-power is always associated with spirituality. Will-power strengthened by awareness is stronger than any help on the planet. ... Like the previous commenter said, if you are looking for easy answers don't go to Mooji :)

Maybe he is getting huge because he is a genuine sage? When I met him he was the most loving being Ive ever met on this earth. I know it can be tough, but one has to face the question: is what I think really true? Are my ideas about spirituality and the truth really true or are they the way I was taught to believe? Also everyone has personal preferences, if yours are different, great, follow a sage who never uses money, doesn't mean a sage can't, or does it?

I don't agree with you but I understand your point. People with alcohol and/or drug addictions are mostly having issues with their emotional states. These are not real in the sense that they trick you to believe certain things which are NOT true. If you keep going to the addiction, use it to learn something about yourself, stop dwelling on the shame and guilt that results. Its counterproductive. I totally agree with what Mooji says, addiction is a symptom of something that needs to be addressed.
