zabelicious I agree that emotional states are usually what triggers alcohol and drug addictions, but as a former drug addict myself I can tell you that addiction to substances involves a complex physiological process in the body that usually can't be beaten with getting to the root of the emotional problem or using self-inquiry alone. The power of the addiction is just too strong and will overwhelm your capacity to mindfully overcome it. I know from years of struggling to beat the addiction with meditation and yoga and both failed miserably. Once I got appropriate treatment from a specialist who could get rid of the physical basis of the addiction, then the traditional tools became a very powerful adjunct to avoid relapse. So I must caution you not to think physical addiction is the same as emotional addiction, the former often needs the sort of help that spiritual teachers alone can't provide and frequently don't understand.

To be free from addictions(of any kind, it could be as simple as watching TV too much) is to be truly free. To realize all joy comes from within and to get your joy from that. All material pleasures have a downside. They make you kind of happy temporarily and the happiness has an opposite. Trying to get lasting happiness from material pleasures is like touching an electric fence. Sooner or later you have to learn, if I do this I get shocked....
@Billy2320111 жыл бұрын
....and to further my analogy what happens is people become accustomed to the electric shock from the fence and thus keep doing it. That's the addiction. This truth that all joy actually comes from within is the truth that will set you free if you go through with undoing the addictions from material things. That doesn't mean you can't enjoy material things from time to time but you will have the knowing and understanding that it does have a downside and you won't get your main source of...

My understanding of what he is saying is that he does understand the complexities of addiction. When he talks of dealing with it on a level of your identity being I am this person, with this past and family etc., then he says "you're in for a bumpy ride." What he is saying is to get in touch with the one who knows that it knows. It is difficult for me as well. But if you want someone to give you easy answers to solve your worldly problems. Then Mooji isn't the one to seek.
@Mwaterfall7 жыл бұрын

Another type of subtle addiction, is addiction to thinking. Addiction to the ego. That causes tremendous suffering for people if they are unaware of it. it's not that you totally stop thinking completely forever. It's that when you think you develop the ability(from practice such as meditation) to step back from your thoughts and realize that you aren't the thoughts so they no longer bother you.
@SuperAllenwill6 жыл бұрын
Billy32210, you couldn't be more correct. Compulsive thinking is an addiction. The world's peoples have for centuries believed that we humans are the thinkers. When in fact, we as human beings have egoic minds that perpetrate the thinking process. The ego is clever but its not intelligent. We as humans simply cling to subliminal universal thoughts from which we build our little personalities and we call them "me". What it comes down to is that Mooji and most if not all Spiritual teachers are trying to get mankind to understand is that there is only one TRUE thinker, and if we want to move forward and free ourselves from these addictions, then its time to let go of the little "me". It takes daily practice, prayer and meditation... but the rewards are out of this world.
@luvmesomedmbg9 жыл бұрын
I have been saying for a long time that addiction is so deep we will never understand it fully, and it goes deeper than any one person can phathom. If there's anything in this world that is impossible, it is to understand addiction in it's entirity.(spelling):)

I don't agree with you but I understand your point. People with alcohol and/or drug addictions are mostly having issues with their emotional states. These are not real in the sense that they trick you to believe certain things which are NOT true. If you keep going to the addiction, use it to learn something about yourself, stop dwelling on the shame and guilt that results. Its counterproductive. I totally agree with what Mooji says, addiction is a symptom of something that needs to be addressed.

he was my best friend and my addiction, my lifeline, I needed him desperately, wanted him badly. the longing and the grief debilitate and paralyze me. sadness and grief and longing and aching and misery and nostalgia: flood me. my heart literally physically hurts. HOW COULD HE DO THIS TO ME? HOW AND WHY? he doesn't miss me? I'm that easy to replace? I'M THAT EASY TO BE THIS CRUEL TO? I don't deserve a goodbye nor an explanation? our connection and friendship wasn't real? I AM STUCK IN FREEZE (mostly, perpetually). my heart is so heavy. the grief; the ache; the longing. I miss him. I needed him. I miss our connection. HOW THE FUCK COULD HE ACTUALLY REALLY DO THIS TO ME? One day we're talking all day, every day, the next, we're complete strangers. I die inside. PANIC PANIC PANIC AND. SO. MUCH. GRIEF!! I truly die inside. The pain is unbearable. I am dizzy with grief. Truly unimaginable darkness. DEBILITATING PARALYZING PANIC... I wish to die. I have severe PTSD. the person whom I thought was my best friend, gave me this PTSD. he raped me. on a soul level. he viciously brutally violently maliciously raped my soul. ghosted me. discarded me like garbage. replaced me for another. (STUPID SICK MOTHER FUCKING ASSHOLE, HE IS!!) I feel the PTSD in my body. I am drowning in darkness. I'm in hell with no escape. I face every moment of every day: with utter dread and sheer terror. so... as an act of my own free will... I choose to release and detach all vibrations and frequencies that do not serve my highest good. I responsibly cut all cords from all people in my past, and declare and command their energy to no longer have access to the sacred parts of my being! I release and send back their energy to them with the purest intent. I call back my energy from their sacred space. I command this all, for my inner healing and for my inner peace. IN JESUS' PRECIOUS HOLY MIGHTY POWERFUL NAME, I DECLARE, IT IS SO! I am embracing the light within my soul. I forgive therefore I am forgiven. I love therefore I receive love. And so it is. NOTES TO SELF: - work on yourself - heal yourself - purify, release, cleanse, attract - be independent; fall in love with you - radiate magical energy - develop a sense of mystery and safety and astonishment - visualize wishes fulfilled (COMMAND and FEEL) - live your life on purpose - Radical Honesty = EASY (if you're not afraid of losing something) Thank you Heavenly Father ❤ Thank you Universe ❤ Thank you God❤ Thank you Gurus❤ Thank you Angels❤ Thank you Ancestors ❤ Thank you Divine Spirit ❤ Thank you Mother Earth ❤ (A successful (wo)man is one who can lay a firm foundation: with the bricks that others have thrown at them...) ❤❤❤ Gratitude - I AM feeling the love from the Universe. - I AM feeling a sense of purpose in my life. - I AM being shown and given a magical and miraculous way of living. - I AM connecting with my soul tribe, and (re)uniting with my twin-flame. ❤PEACE❤ All the doors to the sacred and to the holy and to the benevolent and to the healing, be open to me, and to my family (and to all who read this), in Jesus' Name... Most people "have an addiction." If you don't have any addictions then you are enlightened. haha. Drugs aren't the only thing that people are addicted too. You could be very vain and addicted to thoughts about how you look(that's just one simple example of an addiction that many are not aware of.) Most addictions are subconscious that people have. And by subconscious I mean they are unaware of them. But you can tell they have them by how they behave and what they say.
@danteshell7711 жыл бұрын
mooji knows that addiction is just a feeling of lost or a feeling of emptiness that the people have, and he knows that those feelings come from identification with the body mind and the " story of poor me"...thats why he said that any addiction has no power when u know de thruth of ur real being.
