I must say when I first heard of CRAFT I thought it was so naive. I thought “addiction is a beast; you can’t be nice about it”. I tried to “detach with love” (a hypocritical statement if I ever heard one). I found I could not do it. Mother’s are programmed to never turn their back on their child. I came across these videos and thought, “These people are silly, but, what the heck, I’ll give it a try.” Guess what?! It is working!!! After 17 years battling addiction my daughter is finally getting better.I guess I was the naive one! Thank you for these videos; you are saving lots of families.

I have tried going through some lessons on this but I don’t think I have enough endurance for it. Make the addict’s life good at home so they stop using. They still use no matter what and it brings me and my whole family down in the meantime
@PutTheShovelDown3 жыл бұрын
Hey Jennifer, I'm glad you made that point. I've been meaning to clarify that issue for a while now. I don't think that making an addicts life good will make them stop using. I think it will make them stop blaming everyone and everything else, which makes them have to take a long hard look at what they're doing. They start to realize how their behavior impacts themselves and everyone else, instead of focusing on self-pity and resentment! I think I'm going to make a video clarifying this issue and send it to everyone inside the Invisible Intervention.

A colleague just introduced me to CRAFT and suggested we start doing monthly seminars open to the community based on CRAFT. I'm in research mode now, this is the first CRAFT video I watched. This approach sounds like it fits with my approach to treatment. Should be easy for me to adopt. I'm a licensed alcohol and drug counselor, been in the field for 9 years now.

This channel and YOU are making such a difference Amber! Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am learning so much I did not know before. I grew up in a household with addiction present, did lots of work in my life on dealing with being co-dependent after the end of my 25 year marriage. All that chronic trying to balance the boat and everyone else in it thing and nearly drowning myself. Yep. Onward. And then I married someone with you guessed it, a hidden alcohol addiction LOL! Shocking right? LOL....NOT! Hmmmm...we are indeed such creatures of habit I have learned. Well I'm one smart cookie: got myself in counseling and absorbing every single thing I can get my hands and brain on to do the work. This work is fabulous I must commend you for making a huge difference.

6:46 thank you so much for your showing this method, I am so relieved that my love one had the help and support he deserves, and also for us as a family it is not a day that we are not worry about him. He is passing over a year of being clean, the works continues. But let me tell you, you are not alone, you can help your love one, you can help yourself. And you can enjoy life with out shame. My advice give this a chance, and keep learning about it so you can be a head and no by surprise. Take a deep breath, take care yourself. You can be a good model of how to enjoy life. My heart with you. 🙏🏾

I ve come so far from being pissed at being told I had choices to do things differently as his parent ...Now I 110% see and agree with these sentiments even thou I'm in it again with my 25 year old son...I m definantly doing things differently...WISH ME LUCK ...and I'll never stop making room for miricles to happen🕊🙏💫🧡💫🙏🕊 My son also has schizophrenia and is off all meds ...making his behavior even more intence ..maybe not more as it's all relative...At this moment ..I am pulling tuff Love for self preservation...tired of feeling selfish ...but am also exhausted and refuse to give it my all anymore ...its honestly boring after years of doing more for your loved one than they do for themselves and literally do nothing in return ..except Lo e you in their hearts...there in lay the conundrum for me ...the LOVE...and yet I need ..he needs the LOVE 🕊🙏💫🧡

Yes , I have done the craft method with my alcoholic son. To me you do need a combination of all the methods but approaching with love when someone is sick and giving hope and encouragement is the only way I can conduct myself and feel at all good. CRAFT is a good way to deal with all people really. I do wish they had more access and why don’t they if the success rate is so high. Thank you for your Information 🌺❤️🌺

I attended Al-anon regularly after my divorce. It literally saved MY life. Most people I know attended or attends Al-anon to help their self deal with the emotional problems the alcoholic creates. But I agree, perhaps to help the alcoholic, there may be a better way. I am 75 years old and married my first alcoholic at 20. Then as they say, if you don’t recover you repeat. So after divorcing my first husband after 18 years of marriage and three children, I repeated my mistake and married the second one. That only lasted 5 years. My daughter is an alcoholic now and will soon be going to a Federal camp due to the long term effects of being born into an alcoholic family. I am so inspired to have found this channel. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us.

@kathydixon166611 ай бұрын
Can you recommend a 12 step program on youtube that I can watch? Thank you
@BarbraWhitman13 күн бұрын
12 Step programs have a less than 1% true "success" rate. They do not work. Individual elements of them work, but those elements work independently of the 12-Step program, ie; a higher power. I lost my Dad to the effects of life-long alcoholism. When, he passed I got his Bible. In it were dozens upon dozens of little notes he had written and every one of them were about the guilt and shame he felt every time he 'fell off the wagon" and how disappointing his failure was to his Sponsor or the program as a whole. That's the problem with 12-step programs. Honestly, I blame it that model for costing me my Dad. 12-Step programs and Addiction rely on the propagation of the same two emotions to survive; guilt and shame. Given that, it makes more sense why the recovery rate is so low for those programs. Those programs have so many adherents because they inherently create them. Sure, they celebrate anniversaries of adherence to their program but what happens when one decides to have a beer because they feel like they have a handle on the issue or for whatever reason. They are made to feel like complete failures, "forfeit" whatever positive changes they had made and effectively start over. Unsurprisingly, this leads to more of the behavior that got them their in the first place which stems from the guilt and shame built into the model itself which is Addictions best friend. I've studied Addiction my entire life. No, I'm not an Addiction counselor, I've lived it. There are two Addiction counselors I've found in my 40+ years of near obsession of the topic that actually have the keys to help people. Amber is one of them. This channel is one of the few that actually can change lives.

Amber, I first heard of the CRAFT approach when I stumbled onto your channel in July 2021. My bf has severe AUD and has been change-talking for months. I've been researching and looking for answers for both of us since Oct 2020. I wish I could've applied then what I've been learning about for the past few weeks! Everything about the CRAFT method feels right to me. It has certainly helped me understand his addictive behavior and struggles much better. It has provided me with a bazillion tools that I believe will enable me to support him WAY more effectively. Lastly, I'm learning how to take better care of myself. I feel empowered, patient, and truly hopeful. I have had so many questions and can't get over that I have found answers to every single one of them through your channel so far. Wow! I can't wait to see over the coming weeks and months how my guy will respond to such positive, healing and strategic reinforcement. I think he will come to believe that he can successfully beat this! And I'm going to cheer him on. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, Amber. You are a treasure to so many of us--addicted or non-addicted--who are caught up in some seriously wacko craziness.

I came across this model a few months ago through a family support group. They also recommended I read Beyond Addiction: How Science and Kindness Help People to Change. I have begun implementing some of the principles and it has opened up lines of communication with my son. I made an error with the intervention approach and ended up the 'bad guy'. This is a long road and there are no immediate fixes. I look forward to becoming more empathetic and supportive with the hopes it leads to him seeking help.

I love, love, love CRAFT! I am a man in recovery from alcohol and drugs for nearly 9 years. 4 years ago I made a career change and entered the world of Addiction Treatment. Last year I decided to become a Professional Interventionist. I trained in the BreakFree method initially and then I discovered CRAFT. CRAFT aligns very much with what I've believed in for a long time....that tecovery is for the WHOLE family. We ALL deserve to get better! Detach with love? No! Engage with love. Improve your family situation. Confrontation? No! Conversation. You can let your addicted loved one know where you stand and do it in a way that is not hurtful to either one of you and yet be effective in promoting change and recovery. I help families and watch families get better all the time. So far, my practice boasts a 70% success rate. 70%!! I encourage everyone to find a professional interventionist that specializes in CRAFT. Learn a new perspective and approach! Become educated, enlightened and empowered! A much better life awaits! :)

Concerning the alcoholics in or not in recovery and all the efforts you’ve devoted to your service I would just like to throw in the mix here that without AA I would have been history long ago. About the criticisms, sit them out. Somebody once said that if I had some haters it’s because I must be doing something right. Kind of cocky but I like. Looked like a good idea at the time. Right? All in my family has blocked him out of their lives and I know from witnessing this that is torn him apart not only the drugs but the loss of all the people he loves I am hoping to get a lot out of this. My family all wanted an intervention but I never felt that was the right way my other son wanted us to kick him out on the streets and I couldn't do that either but it's about to go in that situation He lives with his dad and his dad is done! I hope this works because I don't want to lose him I lost his sister and a brother to drugs and alcohol and I don't want to use my lose my own child

All methods prerequire us to be healthy, balanced family. I haven't been able to be consistent but acted typically Adult Child: Periods of non-care and oblivion, thinking that meant not being Co-dependent. Or hardening inside, harbouring resentment, bitterness and false-martyr- and false-victim thinking. I bet the CRAFT methoid costs money that I don't have access to, or is for Americans only. I need some CRAFT to myself and my addiction/attachment, please! I could owe the money, or pay by work of many kinds. I want to get (us all) well,and I am sure it is possible.
