4:49 It's not just because of the car. It's because John dared to stand up to Iosef by saying "no" and because John showed him up when he thought he was being sly by insulting John in Russian - all in front of Iosef's goons. Iodef needs to prove his dominance to John and to his own underlings because he's afraid of looking like the weak, spoiled brat that he is.

Iosef fails to understand what real power is in the world he and Viggo operate in. It is implied that Iosef just killed a bunch of people in Miami so that Viggo could win a mob war and fully acquire a rival gangs territory and assets. They expanded their power considerably and moved up in the underworld hierarchy. They could buy dozens of vintage Mustangs with a portion of the money they just made. Yet Iosef has to prove himself to his buddies who are nobodies are already plenty impressed by Iosef being Viggo's son and heir.

Actually, I think that's the movie's body count. Marcus gets 3, Perkins gets 2, Viggo gets 1, and a group of dudes get 1 (Perkins). So I think John only gets 70. Unless he pulled the plug on Helen, in which case it's 71.

@@blakewalker84120 I was intrigued and hate giving wrong information so I watched a bunch of kill count videos. The consensus is you are right... Kinda... He doesn't kill 77, he kills 76 (though there is some ambiguity on a few due to editing and reusing stuntmen). Almost all were explicit headshots, a few stabbing, and a handful when he blew up the cars, but the count did not include any deaths that weren't by his hands.

At the three and a half minute mark... Addie crying over the sweet dog sent by the dead wife... and knowing what is coming I expect a need for more tissues. And then... addie skips the tears and goes straight to anger over the attack. I love the layer to this the code they speak, the "motivation" (for example Marcus asked if the contract was exclusive since the answer was no he agreed so he could be close enough to protect him.) you almost need to watch it several time to get it... even then you miss details. One detail it is easy to miss if no one explains it is Francis talking about "weight loss" while actually telling John how many guards are inside.

Another great reaction, Addie. Thanks. Keanu Reeves performed about 90% of his own stunts in the film, including the car chases and fight scenes. He trained extensively in Brazilian jiu-jitsu for the film, and actually earned a blue belt. The movie was shot in just 33 days, which is a very tight schedule for a feature film. The Continental Hotel in the film is a real New York City location called The Hazelton Hotel. The dog that plays John Wick's beloved pup, Daisy, was a rescue dog named Andy. See you next time.

Nice reaction / review. There is conjecture that John's wife was a veterinarian. She had a dog sent to him. He knew exactly where he could get meds and everything needed for his wounds. He watched the phone video of her right in front of the place he went to for the meds. He picked a dog that was scheduled to be put down. And as he walks away with the new dog he is walking the same route where his wife collapsed in the beginning. You have an incredible rabbit hole opened before you now. Enjoy #2 and #3 soon. Each gets progressively better in a way. Number 4 is available now also. As we say here in Texas; Y'all be safe.

Hey Addie... The series only builds from here...and gets really wild, but still really awesome. - Keanu went through months of training for the role. Specifically, weapons training and there are videos on KZbin showing some of it. - These films use the best stunt guys as well as use many actors from 'The Matrix' franchise. Chad Stahelski, who is credited as the main director (although direction and producing were shared with David Leitch) was Keanu's stunt double on 'The Matrix', and was stunt coordinator on the sequels (he even shows up in a small role in the last 'Matrix' film). The Continental Doctor played by Randall Duk Kim was the Keymaker in 'Matrix Reloaded', and the main bodyguard Kirill was played by Daniel Bernhardt who was the "upgraded" Agent Johnson in 'Matrix Reloaded". More 'Matrix" cast members will appear in the next films. - The concierge of Continental, Charon was played by Lance Reddick. Tragically, Lance died just prior to the release of the last 'John Wick' film. RIP, Lance! - Viggo Tarasov was played by the late Swedish actor Mikael Nyqvist. Prior to 'Wick', Nyqvist was best known here in America for playing Mikael Blomquist in the Swedish film versions of the 'Millennium' novels by Stieg Larsson...'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo', 'The Girl Who Played With Fire', and 'The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest'. If you are willing, watch these films...they are really good. They are intense as the subject matter is not for the faint-hearted, but they are solid mystery thrillers that topped the book best-seller charts for a few years, and the films keep the spirit of the novels. When 'Dragon Tattoo' was remade in English, Daniel Craig played Blomquist...which is also a decent version, I prefer the Swedish versions though. Noomi Rapace just kills it as the title character, Lisbeth Salander (aka The Girl of the title).

This is probably been mentioned several times already, but: let’s hear it for officer, Jimmy and Francis the door guard. Quite possibly the two most intelligent people in the entire John Wick franchise.

Nice reaction, Addie. I'm so glad that you enjoyed John Wick (2014). I did watch this movie, alongside the other two, all at once in preparation for Chapter 4. However, I plan on rewatching all of them soon to get a fresher perspective on all four films.

John Wick isn't the only one who has to suffer through his dog's death. Every single person who's ever watched John Wick has to suffer with him. One horrible detail is the blood on the ground leading up to John laying on the floor. That poor little puppy managed to drag itself to John because it wanted to be close to him as it died :*(

In an era with so many remakes and adaptations, John Wick was a breath of fresh air with a new original IP that was immediately gripping and entertaining as hell, while leaving you wanting to know more about the fascinating underworld that they built. Great movie, great franchise (I haven't seen Chapter 4 yet, but I've heard good things). IMO this movie really deserved to be a huge blockbuster, and it's nice that this was a case where creativity was rewarded and the box office justified the (excellent) sequels.

Not sure I would use the phrase, original IP. Bad fracks with wrong guy wrong guy is super Billy Badass guy destroys bad guys. Thats like 3/4 of all 80's movies.

some fun info: -Each of the 4 movies has an overarching theme: JW 1 is Grief - that is why the colors are so muted, and john is reluctant to kill in the beginning. JW 2 is Retribution, JW 3 is consequences, and JW 4 is desperation. -The gold coins are not rated by monetary value, but by the holder, so if John uses 12 coins for the first cleanup scene, then someone of lesser status will need more. -The Continental Hotel is a character in itself with its many rules.(more are explored in the later movies) -The High Table (the ones running the assassins in this universe) are more involved in the later movies. -The doctor uses the same actor as the keymaker in the matrix movies. -John is the only one that addresses the managers of the Continental by their names. -the scene with the bodyguard was actually code for how many guards were in the building. -The dog john rescues is Keanu's actual pet dog.

Marcus's always been there to help, that's why he asked if the contract was open or not, if it's open, then he has to step in to protect John. Same for the scene with Francis the bouncer, when John asked about his weight loss, he would say 27 kg to signify there are 27 bodyguards in the building, knowing Francis used to be John's driver, that's why John rewards Francis's loyalty by not killing him right off the bat and letting him go

Still one of the best action movies to come out in a LONG time, and so much care went into every detail! I love how, for the most part, they don't really spell out a lot of what John's world is like, how The Continental works, the code words they use (which get expanded on a lot more in the next one)...they give you enough context to work most of it out. Even his brief talk with Francis outside The Red Circle, they kinda show that they were actually talking about how many guards were inside because he kills them all. And NONE of it feel particularly out of place within that world, like John would already know the rules about not doing business on Continental grounds, but because he's there on a revenge mission and is rightfully pissed off, he kinda needs just that little reminder nudge, which serves as all the exposition the viewer needs on that. The John Wick movies are never going to be cinematic masterpieces on the level of Casablanca, or The Godfather, or even Pulp Fiction, but holy shit are they brilliantly fun with obvious love and attention put into them.

That bit when John replied in russian at the garage...when I was in college here in the UK little gangs of various people would like to say insults/slurs out loud in their first language. I remember one day a group did that to me, and laughed. They stopped immediately when I replied to them in the same language. You get to learn what certain phrases mean after 3 years there :)
