In this movie, they threw in a big clue of the ending for the comic book readers. When Gwen Stacy is leaving for Oxford, she's wearing the exact same outfit in which she dies in the comic book.

The death of Gwen Stacy was a pivotal moment for Peter in the comics. Its probably the second most important part of Spider-Man after Uncle Ben. I felt this movie did it justice. Its just a shame we didn't get a 3rd movie in this series.

The death of Gwen Stacy in the comics was one of the defining points in the history of the media. It was traumatic, no one believed it was true. And, to this day, Gwen is the only character that remains dead in the comics, all times she reappears she's either a fake or from another universe.

That's true... I love an interview with Stan Lee when asked of the possibility of bringing back dead characters like some franchises and companies do but Stan was adamant that when a character dies it was important to him that they need to stay dead and never return which I agree with.

Hey! That’s me at 10:19 in your video. 😊 Working on TAS2 for 85% of production was a blessing. I was an extra actor (in the Times Square scene) and a production assistant for the remainder of the film. It was a real blessing to work with my favorite superhero in real life. Having said that, I was greatly disappointed by the final theatrical version since ALOT more was shot on set that never made it in the movie. I got to see Shailene Woodley on set playing MJ, more Times Square footage aftermath of Electro’s destruction, etc. but that’s Hollywood…sadly. I still have a special place in my heart for this film with so many grateful memories. Loved your video! Subscribed 😇

But I completely understand why they cut MJ from the movie. If they setup her in the same movie, it'll be too distracting and Gwen's death may won't be as impactful. Including the scenes when Peter raging at Goblin at the end or the one with his dad (the secret agent parents side plot just useless, probably the last thing I wanted from this franchise).

It's not "underrated", what they did to _Electro_ is one of the biggest embarrassments in all the _Spiderman_ movies...and that's saying something considering how bad Tom Hollands "Spiderman" is, with him turning _Spiderman_ into a bumbling moron who can't do anything without Tony Stark holding his hand, or his high school buddy getting Peter out of trouble...complete garbage.

I remember I was a kid when this movie came out and It hit the nostalgia in my head seeing it again. I love how Emma Stone portrays Gwen. She was just like this from the comics too! Man am I a few months late, I just discovered your channel this week and I've been watching a ton of your videos, but I definitely wanted to leave a comment for this one The thing about Gwen Stacy is that, in any version of her, in any story told with her in it, she is Peter's first love, and she is always his biggest grief. In the comics after he makes a life with MJ, he would still go every day into his attic and talk to her, to her old recordings he had of her, and MJ knew this and supported him through it all. That's Gwen Stacy's story in any version of Spiderman. It's heartwrenching, and she is one of my favorite characters above all, I don't think I'll never not cry while watching this film, or any other that Gwen Stacy is a part of

Great reaction! And I hadn't seen this movie (or any of the Spider-Man movies), but as soon as I saw Gwen my first thought was "She's going to die here." But there's a reason I knew that. I read the comics. 😛 Gwen Stacy dying was unbelievable in the comics. Especially since, in effect, Peter "killed" her as the webbing arrested her fall so quickly that it snapped her neck. My best friend and I waited for issue after issue to resolve this injustice, but in the end it stood. Gwen was basically dead at the moment she fell, and nothing Spidey could have done would have saved her. Didn't stop him from torturing himself over it, though he went after the Green Goblin since it was he who had started Gwen's fatal fall during a battle with Spidey. Still a great comic story, even if the ending was awful. I remember it and the battle with the Sin-Eater, especially the cover of the issue where Spidey leaps out of the way of the Sin-Eater's shotgun blast, but doing so means the crowd behind Spidey takes the hit from the shotgun blast, most of the Spider-Man comics I read when I was younger.

I'm glad you enjoyed this movie! I know most people aren't a fan of the second Amazing Spider-Man movie, but I really enjoyed this one a lot than the first in my opinion. My favorite scene in this movie is the interaction between the little boy and Spider-Man. That scene hits me close to home; additionally, it also reminds me of the speech from Andrew Garfield when he introduced himself to the whole world for his role for the Amazing Spider-Man movies. I do like Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man as you mentioned at the end, but honestly I like both of them equally as Spider-Man. I didn't much care for Andrew Garfield being Spider-man, but I recently realized that it wasn't his acting, but the direction/script. If you haven't seen Hacksaw Ridge, you really should for the channel (get some tissues. There will be tears). That and a few other films have really shown that his talent was squandered in these movies. Kind of how they were starting to with Tom Holland, until his most recent appearance. THAT movie really changes my opinions about his acting ability as well. I'm learning that it isn't always the actor, though since they are front and center they are the most obvious target.

She wasn’t supposed to die in the comics. Gwen Stacy. It was a huge mistake to do it then and in the movies. She was the best love interest for Peter. And Emma Stone was great in the role. I know people will say it's adapting the comics, but Stan Lee didn't want her to die in the comics. He actually wrote her with his wife in mind. Then he just went on vacation and the writer who was filling in decided to kill her because he liked MJ better. Needless to say Stan was upset.

I had one of the most complex emotional reactions ever to the climax of this film. As a life-long Spider-Man fan, I've always been familiar with the story of "The Night Gwen Stacy Died," even though I only read the actual comic story relatively recently. My Spider-Man had that tragedy behind him, and it deeply informed his character. So when I put down money to see this in the theater, I wanted to see that story. I wanted this film to include Gwen Stacy dying. But when the actual moment arrived, I loved Emma Stone's Gwen Stacy and Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker too much to want to watch them go through it. When Peter got down to her, and start pleading with her to wake up, I was terrified they were going to pull some Hollywood BS "Oh, she's only stunned, she's fine" and I would be robbed of the moment I'd paid good money to see. But I was also right there with Peter, hoping against hope that she WAS just stunned, that she WAS going to open her eyes and be fine and alive. When she was clearly, irrevocably dead, I was glad that they'd followed through on the story they'd promised, but I was also sad and angry that this character I loved was gone, and this other character I loved was suffering so horribly. It was all very confusing, but an experience I'll treasure.

Hi Addie, I just discovered your channel and am really enjoying your videos. FYI the story from the comics is kind of an amalgamation of the Tobey Maguire and the Andrew Garfield movies. The scene in Spider-Man 1 where the Goblin throws Mary-Jane off the bridge is taken directly from the comics except that it was Gwen Stacy and it was where she died, exactly like she did in this movie. For me, I think the Spider-Man trilogy are better adaptations of the source material but I prefer the lack of campiness and more serious tone the Amazing Spider-Man duology. I think I prefer Andrew as Peter, Uncle Ben, Aunt May and Flash Thompson here as well. Definitely miss J. Jonah Jameson and prefer Willem Dafoe as Norman. I don't really care for either Harry though...

As far as Electro is concerned, Spider-Man was the one who had him sent to the lab to be experimented on. Meanwhile, you have all these people behind Max's accident and their cover ups yet it never really comes up. I just think it's an insanely wasted opportunity. Peter Parker, a kid who was treated like a nobody his whole life. Now, after becoming Spider-Man, he runs into Electro and takes him out... Only to find out the guy was treated like a nobody his whole life, and after his accident at oscop his employers treated the whole thing like a minor inconvenience and turned him into a test subject. This is such a missed opportunity.

@@mechanomics2649 do you really though? I’d say Avengers 1 introduces the characters well enough. It’s nice if you know their stories, but Cap being stuck in the ice and missing Peggy only comes into play in Civil War and Endgame really. And Tony is pretty self explanatory. Hawkeye and Bruce we get enough about them in Avengers 1 to know who they are. And same with Natasha.

Sony repeated their mistake that again ended a Spider-Man movie series. They got involved in the creative process and pushed for too many story lines within a single movie. The Toby McGuire movies had plans for more movies, we only got 3 because the third one tanked. Here we only had 2 Andrew Garfield movies for the same reason - the second movie tanked.

I know others have said it, but I really want to make certain you see this. The Tom Holland Spiderman movies are interwoven into the other MCU movies, and there's too much of the movies that won't make sense if you don't watch all of the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies.

Addie, you really can't go into the Tom Holland Spider-Man movies right away. They unfold in the narrative of the whole Marvel Cinematic Universe, and you will be lost and confused if you don't watch it all. You have to start with Iron Man (2008) and watch it all in release order, please. Also, watch them until after the end credits. The movies end with post-credits scenes.

BEFORE you venture into the Spider-Man "Home trilogy", you may want to do some catching up. :-) You'll HAVE TO watch the Venom movies ; Venom (2018) and Venom : Let There Be Carnage (2021). It's a complete reboot of the character, completely by-passing the original interaction with Spider-Man and going right to Eddie Brock (who is less of a dick in this version). Venom, while a sworn enemy of Spider-Man, does ultimately become a kind of anti-hero, defending innocents, thus gaining the moniker, "Lethal Protector". They eventually hint at tying in with the entire Marvel Avengers movies (from 2008's Iron Man all the way to the most recent Spider-Man movie, No Way Home). See comments below for complete "checklists" so you don't miss any films or see them out of order! :-)

Here's a checklist if you need, should you choose to dive into the Avengers and all the associated heroes. First, some random Marvel movies that pre-date the Avengers, but are worth watching (this includes the McGuire and Garfield Spidey movies) : ( These are totally optional) [1998-AUG-21] BLADE [2002-MAR-22] BLADE II [2004-DEC-08] BLADE III : TRINITY [2002-MAY-03] SPIDER-MAN [2004-JUN-30] SPIDER-MAN 2 [2007-MAY-04] SPIDER-MAN 3 [2003-JUN-20] HULK [2003-FEB-14] DAREDEVIL [2005-JAN-14] ELEKTRA (Daredevil spin-off/prequel) [2004-APR-16] THE PUNISHER [2008-DEC-05] THE PUNISHER : WAR ZONE [2005-JUL-08] FANTASTIC FOUR [2007-JUN-15] FANTASTIC FOUR : RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER [2007-FEB-16] GHOST RIDER [2012-FEB-17] GHOST RIDER : SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE [2012-JUL-03] THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN [2014-MAY-02] THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 [2015-AUG-07] FANTASTIC 4 None of these need to be watched in any particualr order unless they are obvious sequels. For example, you can save the Blade trilogy for last or skip it altogether (unless you love vampires).

Addie, for Star Wars, you should start with the Original Trilogy (Episode IV: A New Hope - Episode VI: Return of the Jedi), then the Prequel Trilogy (Episode I: The Phantom Menace - Episode III: Revenge of the Sith), then Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, then the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series, then Star Wars: Rebels animated series, then Solo: A Star Wars Story, then The Mandalorian live-action series, then The Book of Boba Fett live-action series. And finally, if you must, the Sequel Trilogy (Episode VII: The Force Awakens - Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker).
