I would say it is a Christmas movie. Aside from all the action and deaths going on. John and his wife are able to restore their love for one another just in time for the holidays as they reunite their family after being apart for so long. Not to mention John is able to have a change of heart after realizing his faults in regard to his wife’s career path and how he should be more supportive to her.

Good reaction. Addie. There's fun factoid about this movie as well. One of the actors, the late Fred Thompson, who played Trudeau (the guy who runs the airport) actually became a US Senator. He was also one of the presidential front-runners for the Republican nomination back in 2008, but eventually lost the primaries to john mccain. Anyway, one of his other notable roles in that same year 1990 as 'Die Hard 2', was as an Admiral in the movie 'The Hunt For Red October'. He passed away in 2015.

Die Hard is definitely a Christmas movie! Multiple characters say "Merry Christmas" throughout and it takes place during the company Christmas party. Love your videos and have a Merry Christmas!!!

Not really. Christmas isn't essential to the plot like say Elf. You could set Die Hard at any time of the year and it wouldn't massively change. Okay, people wouldn't be saying Merry Christmas to each other but that isn't important to the story.

@@CallingOutGhouls I think it just depends what someone defines as a Christmas movie. It's the same with a few others, as well. Home Alone, for example, could've taken place at any point through the year but it didn't. Put it at any time of the year and it wouldn't massively change. However, it is widely considered to be a Christmas movie, as well. People just like a debate with no stakes so that we can have an opinion about something safe :). I once heard best justification of why it is christmas movie: "It is christmas movie because it being christmas is integral part of plot (like almost empty building, holiday party, security running with minumun personel etc..). There's a line from the 4th movie (which is very different than the first 3, I enjoy it) that perfectly explains McClane. He is telling another character that he's no hero, he's not that guy. Other character asks him why he kept doing all the stuff then. John replies, "Because there was no one else there to do it." And the other character says, "that's why you're that guy."

I wrote this on another reactors Die Hard video. Hans called him a cowboy coming to the rescue like in an old movies. Bruce Willis grew up watching those movies, like Roy Rodgers, the singing cowboy from the 1940s. That's why he called himself Roy when talking to Al on the walkie talkie. Roy Rodgers would sing "I'm an old cowhand, from the Rio Grande" the chorus for the song was Yippy Ai Yo Kai Yay! Or shortened to Yippey Kai Yay! Die Hard gave a new meaning to those nonsense cowboy words in the 1980s. Like today we have YOLO and LEROYYYYYY JENKINSSS!!!

Die Hard is definitely a Christmas movie: Christmas music, takes place during the Christmas season, Christmas party and decorations, and Christmas miracles for the bad guys and the protagonists alike! Granted, it was short lived for the bad guys, but reconciling husband and wife is definitely a Christmas miracle! Also, it was a "white Christmas" in Las Angeles - even if it was "snowing" millions in bearer bonds...
@william_santiago2 жыл бұрын
A Christmas movie is one that being Christmas is an integral factor in the movie. For example, the Christmas party of the first movie is one. The fact that John is even in LA is due to Christmas. Nakatomi Plaza is largely empty because of Christmas. Security is lax because it's Christmas. Same thing with this movie. Everybody is at the airport because it's Christmas. The weather is a factor because it's Christmas. What doesn't make sense is sending a criminal to a crowded airport during Christmas.
@shainewhite27812 жыл бұрын
I remember watching this movie on CBS back in 2000, and the way they removed or dubbed the swearing is hilarious especially when John McClane says, "Yippee Kay Yay Mr Falcon!" Lol!! Or "Forget Monday Night quarterbacks! My wife is on one of those Damn planes those guys are messing with! And if you moved your fat feet like I told you so, we wouldn't be deep in snow right now!" And, "Come to papa Falcon." In the the theatrical release, it was "Come to papa, Scumbag ".

Best start to any video ever. 🤣 🤣 🤣 To answer your question, Die Hard most certainly IS a Christmas movie. One of my favorites too. Merry Christmas Addie 🥂🍻
@TheNotoriousCheeto2 жыл бұрын
I think it definitely IS a Christmas movie. It isn't just an action movie that takes place at Christmas. It has the themes of family, togetherness, forgiveness, and redemption. John McClane's whole purpose is to spend Christmas with his estranged family and overcome their difficulties. The scene where he says "she's heard me say 'I love you 1000 times, but she's never heard me say 'I'm sorry'" shows this. Take for comparison the film Lethal Weapon. It is a great movie, but it is a perfect example of a movie that takes place AT Christmas without being a Christmas movie. Those cops are investigating a homicide and get involved in a complicated case. But it could happen any time of the year. Even the Christmas lines could just as easily be Halloween lines. But in Die Hard, the fact that Hans and his gang are committing these acts at Christmas time is shown to make it especially heinous. And then punch at the end is for someone who shamelessly exploited a family, family being what Christmas is all about. If the fact that Die Hard involves violently stopping criminals automatically undoes the Christmas Spirit, then Home Alone isn't a Christmas movie either.
@CJR-wv8kc2 жыл бұрын

Yes, Die Hard is a X-mas movie. The movie is conically in the Christmas Season. There is iconography of Christmas stuff (Christmas Tree, Bows), has characters referencing Christmas things such as "ho ho ho", has "Christmas songs" playing, this movie wouldn't have happened at another time (because John was there to see wife @ Christmas at a Christmas party), heart warming Christmas like story at the end with John finally getting to be with wife and making a new friend in the cop.

"He has shoes this time" was on the Japanese poster for this movie. To me a Christmas Movie has to meet 3 criteria; 1. Is there a wholesome family moment at the end? 2. Would this work at any other time of the year? 3. Does it actually take place at Christmas? John is flown in for Christmas, something a company wouldn't do at any other time of the year. "Now I have a Machine Gun. Ho Ho Ho" wouldn't be iconic and be on merchandise. The Christmas Tape to tape the gun on his back on the final confrontation could be regular tape, but again, it's from a Christmas display. And he reunites with his estranged wife and they're both happy to be going home for Christmas. So yes, Die Hard is a Christmas movie.

As someone who does not entirely agree. Yes, Die Hard is a Christmas movie in the general sense. It takes place during Christmas which is a pivotal plot point to the story of why John makes his way to California. Where I argue that it is not a Christmas movie is that the Spirit/activity of Christmas is not a focal point of the story (I.E. the giving of gifts, Santa representation, and personally connecting with an inner child feeling.). TLDR Die Hard is a Christmas movie*.
