@@513morris It’s weird you would feel the need to “correct” OP with an obscure grammar rule on yt… then actually get it wrong…😬 👉”The exception comes into play when the countable noun refers to an amount of time, distance, or money. Then, you’ll want to use “less than,” not “fewer than.” For instance, you would say, “The concert lasted less than two hours,” not “…fewer than two hours,” even though “hours” is technically a countable noun. This is because this sentence refers to “two hours” as a lump sum of time, not as individual hours. For other similar examples, “The concert tickets cost less than 50 dollars” and “The venue was less than 20 miles away” are correct as well.”

Masterpiece movie, from an age where they still thought of using silence and eerily tight shots to create suspense rather than simply relying on jump-scares and moody music for every single scene. The original "Alien" movie is another great example of this!

Hannibal identifying her by scent, being able to tell when she's stopped bleeding, and imitating her accent are all hyper-predatory. He is the apex predator in this movie, and yet he's so compelling that we're weirdly attracted to him, like the beauty of a tiger's stripes. Starling and Lecter's relationship is deepened in the novels, but you can see how much Hannibal likes her from their very first meeting. When she says, "no, you ate yours" about Hannibal's trophies, there's a glimpse of Hannibal thinking, "oh I LIKE this one". She's not afraid to go /there/ within the first five minutes of the conversation. And Crawford's line "the last thing you want is Hannibal Lecter inside your head" is profoundly ironic because by allowing Lecter into her mind, she is able to come to terms with her father's death and the trauma on the ranch. He helped her because he's a good psychiatrist. But he molded her because liked her.

Sir Anthony Hopkins is one of the greatest living English-speaking actors. For a less intense performance check out his first film, _The Lion in Winter_ (1968). Starring Peter O'Toole and Katherine Hepburn (her third Oscar), it is a Medieval political/family drama about Henry II of England, Eleanor of Aquitaine, his queen, their three sons, Richard (Hopkins), Geoffrey, and John, and the general political situation among the Plantagenets at the end of the 12th century. As well as winning Hepburn her third Best Actress Oscar, it won Best Adapted Screenplay, for James Goldman who adapted it from his play, and Best Original Score for John Barry. A marvelous drama with a significant sprinkling of witty remarks and great performances all round, it is one of the most fun-to-watch Medieval-set movies.

The story was inspired by the time that the FBI asked Ted Bundy to create a profile of the green river killer and when they finally arrested him they realized that Bundys profile was pretty accurate, the scene where Buffalo Bill is also inspired by Bundy who would wear a fake cast on his arm and pretend he was struggling to get something in his VW Bug in view of a woman he wanted and when she helped him he would hit her over the head and push her into his car. The character of Buffalo bill was inspired by a few serial killers including Ed Gein who besides killing a few people would also steal recently buried bodies and use them to make things like a pair of gloves and a lampshade made out of human skin and furniture made from bones and skulls. I found out recently that the actors who play Buffalo Bill and Catherine actually dated during the filming of the movie.

Jodie Foster didn't reprise her role in the sequel, "Hannibal", because she was busy working on another movie, and though it did do well at the box office, it was given mixed reviews, especially by the late Roger Ebert. The general consensus was that it borrowed a lot of stuff from ITS source material. A lot of people just loved the first one THAT much.

I read the book in highschool. Lecter spent years collecting and concealing tiny things he could use to construct a handcuff key. The ink tube of the pen was the last item he needed. The movie doesn't show how he got the pen, and even the book is a little vague. I think it was left within reach when his restraints were removed. In the book he doesn't just wear the officer's uniform to escape, he also wears the officer's mangled face over his own.

@FeaturingRob 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Addie!!! - Only three films have won Best Picture, Director, Actor, Actress, and Screenplay. 'It Happened One Night', 'One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest ', and 'The Silence of the Lambs'. - Sir Anthony Hopkins found the voice of Lecter through one of the many actresses he had worked with in the past. In 1967, he made the film 'The Lion In Winter' playing a young Richard the Lionhart, and the legendary Katherine Hepburn played his mother, Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine. The voice of Hannibal Lecter is basically a bit of a mimic of Katherine Hepburn's voice. - Jodie Foster never talked with Anthony Hopkins until last year, when they reunited for the film's 30th Anniversary. Jodie talked with "Lecter", just not Tony...she was THAT scared of him on set! The video of their reunion is on KZbin, courtesy of Variety channel's "Actors On Actors" series. - This is the first of three films Hopkins made as Lecter...'Hannibal' (2001), and 'Red Dragon' (2002)...The first was a sequel and co-starred Julianne Moore as Clarice, the second was a "prequel" that co-starred Edward Norton and Ralph Fiennes. - This is the second of four novels by Thomas Harris that featured Dr. Hannibal Lecter...Red Dragon, Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal, and Hannibal Rising. It's not really shown, but the reason Hannibal hates Jack Crawford was that before he was caught for his own crimes...Lecter helped Crawford and another agent named Will Graham catch serial killers. That story is told in both novel and film of 'Red Dragon' which was actually made TWICE...In 1986, director Michael Mann did the first film version called 'Manhunter' which starred William Peterson (of 'CSI' fame) as Will Graham and in a single scene, Brian Cox (currently Logan Roy on HBO's 'Succession') as Hannibal Lekter (with a k spelling). I am NOT a horror fan, either. This is one of the rare exceptions...although it is more a thriller than a horror. For really great Hopkins movies: Legends of the Fall, The Mask of Zorro, Bram Stoker's Dracula, The Lion In Winter, The Remains of the Day, Howard's End, and Meet Joe Blck are a few. Jodie Foster movies: Contact, Nell, Anna and the King, Maverick, and Home For the Holidays (which she only directed)

The ways in which Lecter is contained in this movie add a lot to the fear he inspires. He’s put in things (cell without bars, the huge room when he was arrested, the jacket and mask) that implicitly signify how dangerous and powerful he is. It’s so well done! I love this movie and I love how he plays the character. Note: I’m writing this at 15:47 so apologies if I’m just restating things that end up being discussed Coming back after it’s over: going off the closing comments, I’d agree. I’d say you still haven’t watched a horror movie. This is a thriller with horrifying elements 😅

"The movie isn't called screaming of the lambs... It's silence of the lambs..." That's because the lambs were all Clarice's mind. That was her initial fear that she confessed to Hannibal. Horror films can be a lot more than just jumpscares and gore. Horror movies can also have some sort or psychological or emotional core, making these much more effective because it's more relatable as an audience member. For certain horror movies that are predictably over reliant on gore and cheap jumpscares, they don't quite get to the root of what's really terrifying.

Also, the quick introductions to Dr Chilton and Lector is great juxtaposition of the two, making you immediately dislike Chilton despite him not being the murderer. You mentioned the disembowelment scene as a "spectacle" and that was exactly what was being done. Lecter needed to shock everyone - while he laid there with "Ready When You Are Sgt Pembry's" face. He needed that younger officer to be freaked out and not look too closely, so the spectacle plus his boss's short tempered "It's Pembry - talk to him, damnit!" demand lets Lecter escape. Quite a chess move sequence... if you follow up with HANNIBAL, you'll be treated to another view of disembowelment as a form of art and its historic importance. Plus, you'll be reminded that the finest chefs often prepare meats at the patron's tables over flames or skillets. No need for ketchup.

The Buffalo Bill character was inspired by real life killer Ed Gein. Played by Ted Levine, he years later played the police Chief on "Monk" tv show.

The most compelling aspect of this film is that Lecter is sincerely trying to help Clarice with her childhood trauma.

I’ve heard enough conflicting stories that I don’t know which is true, but I like one version in particular. A great prank by Sir Anthony Hopkins. From what I heard, at the premiere night of this movie, Hopkins sat in the back row, behind a woman who got increasingly freaked out as the movie went on. Then, during the end credits, he leaned forward and addressed her in his Lector voice: “Did you enjoy the movie?” She reacted as you might expect. Again, I don’t actually know if this is true, but it’s a great story.

This was the first and only Horror Thriller film to win Best Picture. Before Sir Anthony Hopkins was cast as Hannibal Lecter, Brian Cox, John Lithgow, Forrest Whittaker, Daniel Day Lewis, John Malkovich, Louis Gossett Jr, Robert Duvall, Dustin Hoffman, Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro, and Jack Nicholson were considered. Meryl Streep, Laura Dern, Michelle Pfeiffer and Meg Ryan were considered for Clarice Starling. Gene Hackman was considered to play Jack Crawford before Scott Glenn took the role.

27:15 you do your own editing?? I have to give you big kudos here. One of the reasons I really enjoy your channel is that I think you do some of the better edits out of the movie reaction channels. You usually manage to pin point most of the important story beats so that the shortened vs of the film we watch with you here still has a decent flow to it and tells the story properly. And for someone that obviously hasn't watched many films (and I'm assuming doesn't work in film at all), that's impressive that you have the proper instincts for that. A lot of people don't and a lot of the movie reaction channels short edits are complete messes. So much respect on your editing skills here. I thought for sure you had hired an editor since your edits are usually so susinct. Anyways, another good one to check out is Se7en. It was from a little later in the 90s, and it has different themes, but its another excellent thriller with some strong performances and strong story telling. And since you were able to handle this one, I think you'd be OK with that one as well. It'll definitely have its suspenseful moments too, but like this one, its a suspense/thriller so you don't have to worry about too many jump scares.

Uh-oh, another "Popcorn in Bed" KZbin viewer is entering the lair of Hannibal Lechter. I had read the book before seeing the movie, so I thought I was prepared. Clarice Starling walks up to Lechter's cell and I an stunned. Just standing there, he exudes Menace, loo,ks at people as potential prey, doesn't blink his "shark-dead" eyes, and gets into Starling's mind toot suite. It is/was unfortunate that actor Ted Levine didn't get AMPAS attention for his "Jame Gumb" role or "Goodbye Horses dance. 19:13 Over the years, the Blood Eagle, a Viking torture reserved for enemies of the Realm, comes to mind. 20:20 Some reactors miss this scene and wonder how Hannibal Lechter got overseas. 25:10 Mrs. Lippman, I presume? 25:39 Lesson learned. 26:15 Have YOU ever had "an old friend for dinner"?;) Speaking of Horror, have you seen "Alien" (1979)? No? How about "Train To Busan" (2016)? October isn't over yet and Halloween is approaching...See "Up" (2009), instead.

Addie you have really opened a new beloved series of mine with this heavy hitter blockbuster. Sir Anthony Hopkins has a top notch performance, the kind that sends shivers down your spine (similar from the Wolfman 2010 of his). You keep giving us precious reactions and I for one am grateful for your dedication, time and effort. Obviously you do it with genuine pleasure and that pays off. Love you sweet summer child ❤️🤗.

yes... this movie is much more of a suspense/thriller than a horror movie. Though it's understandable why some people view it as a horror movie, especially the way it's filmed. If you survived this movie and want to react to movies that are more "horror", I think you can handle the Friday the 13th movies or the Halloween movies. They are certainly a little more scary than Silence of the Lambs, but still within the range of not too scary. And FYI...if anyone EVER tries to convince you to watch The Exorcist, punch them in the throat! Stay away from that movie, it is real horror that'll have you sleeping with your lights on for the next 6 months!
