I love how you acknowledge and respect women and who they are and, in this case, Starling’s bravery and accomplishment. There are many people in the west who are very prejudiced and think Islamic peoples do not respect women but men like you both show that is not true 🙏🏽 Thank you!

20,000,000 Afghan women would disagree with you. It's not prejudice when it's clearly reflected in their daily lives (or rather, the lack thereof). I'm not saying it's everywhere in the Islamic world but it's certainly a very real issue and not just in Afghanistan. Pretending otherwise is just perpetuating the problem further.

It is a broad assumption and a well known trope. I think it’s important to point out the good, myself being neither a Muslim nor Afghani woman. The same can be said about women’s lives in the US, of which I can personally speak of. Depends on how you look at it and what the issue is.

1. The lisping sound Hopkins makes after he says, 'I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti." is the first scene he and Foster did together and he wanted to freak her out, so her reaction is real. 2. Ted Levine/Buffalo Bill was so disturbing that he received death threats after this was released. 3. The FBI actually let them use their Quantico facility to film. 4. In the book Crawford did have a "thing" for Clarice. 5. "I'm coming to get you Murdock". The late Charles Napier/Lt. Boyle played Murdock in Rambo First Blood II. A great first time/share. 6. Everybody is hitting on Clarice but IRL hitting on Foster is a waste of time and effort. She doesn't fly that way. 🙄 She has been married to a woman since it became legal in Caliphony. 7. Dr. Lecter was treating Clarice 8. Others will pass this to you as well but: This movie won ALL 5 of the big Oscars.😎 Levine should have gotten best supporting.

This brilliant film have been on my mind over the last few days to recommend but since the Exorcist scare, I've tried lighter suggestions. Hannibal is a spin off from this one, with the original Clarice declined to reprise her role in Hannibal cos Lecter scared her off lol!
@AlextheHistorian
@AlextheHistorian 10 ай бұрын
Actually Jodie Foster turned down the role in the sequel because of 2 reasons: one, she felt the script was TOO graphic and sick (sick because Mason Verger was a sadistic pedo). And two, she didn't like how the story was going to end with Clarice escaping WITH Lecter and starting a relationship with him. After getting Julianne Moore to play Clarice, a decision was made to alter the ending of the movie so Clarice returns to the FBI and Lecter escapes on his own, it felt more natural that way.
@jettserUK17
@jettserUK17 10 ай бұрын
@@AlextheHistorianMaybe partly, but mostly it doesn't add up, so I'm not sure that's the real reason though. You saying the studio once tried a lovers relationship thing between them in Hannibal initially?! Odd considering their large age and characters differences. Still the studio thankfully altered that script but Foster's internal fear was too great to continue. Despite being the top two main characters, they hardly ever spoke to each other behind the scenes on set even for days. So it speaks for itself really.
@AlextheHistorian
@AlextheHistorian 10 ай бұрын
@@jettserUK17 that is the real reason...its because she didn't like the script I tried sharing a link with you but I forgot that KZbin doesn't like links. Look up the Screen Rant article about why Jodie Foster doesn't appear in Hannibal.
@jettserUK17
@jettserUK17 10 ай бұрын
@@AlextheHistorian No problem, read Screen Rant (came first on search page listings!) However like I said it's likely one of multiple reasons. Didn't it occur to you that Foster was probably feigning bad script as a polite excuse to cover her internal fear of her fearsome co star?! She even admitted this fear relatively recently as 2016 on the Graham Norton show. So why would she mention that if it revolved around her dislike of the script as Screen Rant had alleged?! 🤔
@AlextheHistorian
@AlextheHistorian 10 ай бұрын
@@jettserUK17 I don't believe she would turn down the script because she was afraid of Anthony Hopkins. It wasn't, as they say, a "deathly" fear. It was more of a "that spooks me" kind of fear. Plus, it had been 11 years later, Hopkins was far more famous and well known by then. After so much time had passed, and getting to know Hopkins better, she would not be afraid to work with him. You know, she recently had a reunion with Hopkins, and she explained to him that she was uneasy with him on set. But then later explains that everyone was so busy, she really didn't have time to speak with him, and then Hopkins in turn admitted that he was so intimidated by her that he avoided her between scenes. So the story of her "fear" of him is just one of those stories people tell that is exaggerated for effect.

I disagree, Hannibal had a deeper meaning, but the sickening visuals and dialogue outshined it and lasted longer in the viewer's memory. But essentially the whole movie is about how Clarice feels disillusioned by the very career she has been living/pursuing, she feels alone and dissatisfied and she comes to the slow realization that Lecter is the only man who truly understands her, yet her morals compell her to do what is right and try to capture him. The movie continues the "love story" that was hinted at between them in Silence of the Lambs. In the first movie, the reason why we connect so well with Clarice is because it was easy to understand how this woman faced adversity in a male-dominant world, and how her drive to become FBI was due to trauma of seeing innocent lambs being slaughtered. We can understand it, connect with it. But with Hannibal, most people would not see Lecter the way she does, they can't connect with her attraction to a man that kills and eats people, so naturally we overlook the very notion of how she feels. And therefore the second movie appears to have no deeper meaning, it just looks like a career oriented woman going after an escaped serial killer, and nothing to read between the lines.

@@AlextheHistorian That Hannibal movie must be worse than I thought cause I don't even remember Clarice in it. I do remember feeling very disappointed with it and haven't seen it again since its release. I do remember the scene with the guy's brain exposed actually made me want to be sick. I saw no value in it whatsoever. And I was also disappointed with Hannibal's character. He used to have a certain self consistency but in the second movie this wasn't true. He didn't live up to his own intellectualism and it was possible to see how his political opinions warped his world view. Those flaws didn't exist in the first movie. Hannibal somehow went from being a genius to being just another dumb killer.

@@angelagraves865 ...but they got the context wrong. A 14 dress size is considered bigger, as Bill was trying to get a girl with bigger skin, but the boys said "14? Such a little girl!" They weren't talking about size, they accidentally supposed she was 14 years old.

The scary thing about these types of movies, is these crimes could really happen. Mental illness is a huge problem right now.

Their minds will be blown by "Hannibal" when you get there - it is more complex and is darker, but has an absolutely stellar collection of characters and cast. Also, a fun movie related fact - Hannibal Lecter barely ever blinks... he looks directly into your soul. Kudos to Anthony Hopkins for his acting skills and choices.
