Your vids are the bible for my 2005 Xterra S. Done many of the mods to my X while watching your videos. Keep up the good work! One thing though, you installed the transfer case skid plate upside down. Did the job this afternoon and when the transfer case skid plate is installed opposite to the way you did, the 5 bolts hold the plate 1/2" from the transfer case. It doesn't hang down where it can get hung up on something if you drive over it in reverse. Thoughts?

I just bought the trans and oil pan skid protection plates for my 2008 Xterra. 230 ,000 mies and clean as a whistle.Thanks for the brief and to the point instructions. I'm probably more worried about losing my oil pan due to road trash that can rip an oil pan open or dent the living daylights out of the pan. Cheaper to replace the metal plate than the oil pan.

This comment may be useful for people who have decided to run factory skids instead of aftermarket for either cost or weight. You can double up on all the factory skids except the gas tank skid (not featured in this video). Either by riveting or welding two together, you can increase the strength by quite a bit, given that these are quite weak. I actually am not sure they are even steel, I vaguely recall them being a softer alloy but can't remember what. Doubling up is far cheaper and lighter on your rig than aftermarket skids, and gives more protection than stock for the occasional accidental rock smack, though it still won't provide the same level of protection as heavy gauge steel aftermarket plates.

The stock skid plates on my Pro-4X are better than the stock Plastic "skid Plate" on my Colorado.

They are better than nothing, but the oil pan is still partially vulnerable, especially around the drain plug.

right one. For what I'm doing they are probably OK for now. I agree with you. I wish they would've just covered the drain plug area and forced me to take it off every time I did an oil change. I would prefer that over the big curve in the plate to expose the drain plug.

An m8 tap may help older trucks that didnt have plates...they trap rust and gunk.
