I am in a zone 6B and we have the Lungwort plant growing wild in the woods in my backyard for as long as I can remember. Every summer since I was a little girl I would go out there and dig some clumps up and plant them in my yard and in my neighbors yards. They transplant wonderfully. The blooms last until early-mid summer. They do well in sun and shade (for us at least) and deers and bunnies don't mess with them. They do self after the 3rd year. The foliage is beautiful most of the year. If you protect them in the winter the foliage will stay throughout the winter, however if you don't protect them the foliage will all die back and come back next year. I have had success with over watering them and under watering them. They are very resilient plants. The flowers are beautiful little cup shapes that bloom purple to pink, and one bloom will last weeks. Cutting back blooms do seem to promote more blooms. However once the weather begins to get really hot the blooms stop producing. I have also grown them as an indoor plants and I have had sucess with them continuing to bloom all year round. If anyone has any questions about them feel free to ask. I have 30 years of experience with these plants. I am so happy to see them being sold now.

Oh my goodness! Where are you located?? I’m 6b and grow several varieties, but I’ve never seen them growing wild. How lucky you are! I love all my varieties, large and small leaf. My Jack Frost had two babies this year and I was ecstatic! I love this plant!!! (Btw- I grow in rocks and clay, heavy deer population, no problems thus far. I highly recommend lung wort!)

Oh I do hope you can get the parts for Hebe. She is such a beautiful garden piece & I love the sound when she is running. A perfect place for a chair or bench. So pretty & calm looking. Oh, you are growing a Russell. You know those are very rare. Good luck with it. In the fountain, "It's my garden I can do what I like." That Pulmonaria is lovely! You are correct, lungwort got its name because of the colorations resemblance to a diseased lung. I agree with you, please don't name plants after diseases or body parts! Yuck! (If I remember correctly the plants' genus is named after lungs too or at least respiratory systems. My Latin is very rusty.) Great job filling in that area. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe.

I had to shed a few tears watching your video this morning. I saw Russell and cried. I had to put my marmalade down last week, he lost his battle with kidney problems. Solomon was only 8 years old but, he was a great cuddler and I really miss him.

The Latin name means lung (pulmoa, I think), named as it was used to treat coughs and lung issues in times passed. Wort is just another word for plant, as far as I know. A lot of these plants don't sound great translated to English, though I find the etymology fascinating.

Wow Laura and Aaron, that area looks amazing, I have been looking for a few plants that are in more shade, and this new plant is just what I need for my yard. I already have a beautiful Hosta in one space I just wanted something else to go with it. I love the leaves and the blooms on it are so gorgeous, some of my favorite colors all wrapped into one flower. I loved seeing Russell, he really is the King of the garden. It's also nice seeing Aaron, you are such a great team and I love seeing you interact with each other. I live in a zone 5, so I am constantly looking for just the right plants, some perennials don't always make it because we have such harsh winters, but for the most part the ones I have planted come back each year. Good start to my day with coffee, Laura, Aaron and a new plant as well as other lovely plant to see. I love how the Pulmonaria is set off by the chartreuse color of the other plants in the area. That is such a peaceful looking area now with the statue and that selection of plants. You are right it doesn't even need blooms to enhance it. I love Russell enjoying the shade and the fountain as well, too bad the water isn't running as it would really add to the look but that's ok. Russell and all his paws, sitting on his Hebe throne. He delights in upstaging you, in the sweetest way, of course. This area has long been one of my favorites in your garden because of the shade, the gate structure, and how pretty it looks from all angles. It's like a cool oasis in the middle of the desert. I love lungwort too. I always wanted it but it was always expensive. I received a small division from a friend last year and from that plant currently have 9 small ones. However they fill in quickly. Good plant to divide

One of my mother's favourite plants was pulmonaria Opal. She used to call it spotty dotty plant.I miss her so much, what a wonderful gardener she was. Plants are such a lovely memorial to her and I am building a special garden area for her and her favourite plants, I started with her favourite roses, The Pilgrim and A Shropshire Lad. A little bit like you Laura, my mother was an avid gardener who came from a family of gardeners and it kept her fit all her life. Until I found your channel my gardening inspiration was at an all time low, I only wish you didn't speed your videos up as I find myself trying to garden faster and faster!
