Adding Compost and Mulch to Blackberries and Trees

Wow, we finally got it done and checked this task off the list of things to do. The twins and I worked hard on Saturday to get compost put around all of the newly planted plants and trees. Then we went back and put mulch around all of the same plants and trees that we put compost on.
We saw snakes, salamanders, lots of worms, and skinks while doing this job. The twins worked hard and also got a few lessons on how to drive the tractor. They learned about working and how it can be fun to do things that some consider work. All in all, we worked about 4 hours, then I took them out to eat and we went to play a little.

Great seeing the family out working together. Great reminder to compost our old blueberries as well as the new ones we are adding. I am thinking of getting a small tractor for our place. Love the set up for yours.

Awesome time working with and teaching the kiddos. Are you not supposed to mulch around muscadines? I wasn’t sure if that’s what you said.

Hey Chuck. Some ppl say not to mulch them because the roots are shallow and the roots will grow up into the mulch then when it gets cold, it will kill the vine. I’m doing it to hold moisture in and to keep the weeds back. Thanks for watching.
