I had a 70 camero in the mid 80’s while in the Army. Yellow with black stripes. However it had the long turn signals under the split bumper. No bumper across the grill. I’ve got no clue if it was a base, RS, Z28. Sold it when my first child was born and I’ve regretted ever since.

So glad to see someone use a spray gun correctly. I'm 60 years old and as a teenager I attended a technical school for auto body in the mid 1970's. Trained to be a Combination Man, meaning body work and spray painting. Worked in the business for 40 years. I go so far back that there was no such animal as a Gravity Feed spray gun, only Suction Feed. Obviously, in the long run I used a Gravity Feed gun a lot longer. About the last 10 to 15 years of my career I witnessed some very poor spraying technics (...and body work.) performed by younger guys in the business. Most of them think it's a race. They move their spray gun so fast it's a blur! Not good! I wasn't taught to do that and never did. Since I'm on a rant, what's with NOT feathering back the old paint/primer on a repair? I guess now and the resent past it's the norm. I certainly hope they don't teach this in technical schools now. Running body filler all the way into the old unfeathered paint/primer. You got to be kidding! Your running the risk of solvents going into that unfeathered old paint/primer. Causing the old paint/primer to lift. It doesn't take that much more time to feather that old stuff out and keep the body filler clear of the old paint/primer.

Mark: I've got 21 years into Auto Body Repair and, in that time, I have only worked with 2 guys who could perform proper feather edging. Quality auto body work is really a dying art. Every shop just wants to ram through as many cars as they can. It's all about numbers and making money. Insurance companies have really turned the whole auto body industry into a complete circus. So I would say your comment is spot on. What year did you get away from body shop work?
@Mark-lq3sb5 жыл бұрын
@@fwh79FOXR6-- I started my apprenticeship at a Chevy dealer in the summer of 1977 after graduation at the age of 18. Working for that same dealership until 2017, 40 years. Tech school for me was- junior and senior years in high school, alternating back & forth one week shop time, one week classroom related auto body for three hours, plus high school English, Mathematics and PE. Speaking of featheredging, I recall my junior year. We were taught hand wet sand featheredging. We weren't allowed to use a DA for feathering until our senior year and that's ALL a DA was for, never to be used on body filler. In fact all sanding was done by hand that first year, including plastic filler. Funny, it still piss's me off when people call it Bondo. I'm always the first to correct them, lol. I agree with you about insurance companies, spot on!
@Mark-lq3sb5 жыл бұрын
@@RedXray-- Yep, you are correct sir. I still recall the day I went to the local auto body supply store right after graduation. Was to start at the dealership in one week. Bought a Binks #7 with a Binks Agit-cup and I can't remember what Binks it was, but picked-up a less expensive gun for primer. That Agit-cup was just the thing for metallic, kept in moving instead of settling to the bottom of the cup. Didn't have that in school and I remember our teacher telling us if your spraying metallic keep "shaking" and moving that cup in-between spraying. My #7 has been long since retired and hanging on the wall of my garage. The young guys laugh and wonder what the "old relic" is. My reply, just the best damn gun Binks made!, lol. Most don't even know the name Binks, sad. Yes, that Imron was great. In the winter months when guys would tear-down their motorcycles/choppers I'd do frame molding (plastic filler) and painting. I'd do all molding and priming in my garage and take everything to work on a Saturday to use their booth. Imron was the way to go, proved to be pretty tough on the frames. On the tanks and fenders it gave a damn good gloss with no wet sanding needed (I don't even know if you could wet sand catalyzed paint.) Back then nobody wet sanded acrylic enamel for gloss, only lacquer. Another thing that makes me an ol' timer. When I started, all cars from the manufacture were painted with lacquer and vans/pick-ups with acrylic enamel. I guess it could be worse, before "my time" they used alkyd enamel. Came-across a couple old cars in school that had that on them. It was a teaching moment. Great talking and reminiscing with you guys about the ol' days. Hopefully, more will show-up...

I love to own a car like this someday.. I owned a chevelle for 16 years and had to sell due to we needed a furnace and duct work for our home so our new baby boy would not get cold... Families happen. I sold it to a guy ...and his daughter inlaw cried for a month because she wanted to buy my car cause it was her favorite too.. Well he sold it to her and to add salt to my cuts ( because the car is gone ) he sold it to her and she lives behind me... So i get to see my chevelle in her garage.. If this doesn't suck ... Nothing does.. I dont like walking around the block now due to this new issue... But I'd do it all again because I love my son more.. Yes i miss my car but i wont admit it to my wife or friends.. Who knows if they believe me..
