FWIW (for others with a similar installation situation) those brackets may have been easier to attach using pop rivets and thereby avoided the foam removal.

Home made Hookah, check. Home made carbonator, check. Pressure cooker and canning supplies, check. Home made water maker, check. Now an easy one, dinghy wheels I can just buy. I was going to build them for our new dinghy because we didn't like our old small plastic wheels. Thanks Clark we will use the time saved to go fishing.

Hello Emily & Clark, I’ve just found your channel, a lovely watch in chilly England, thanks for all your sensible reassuring advice. I’ve sailed for more than 50 years, but watching what others do is always good, every day is still a school day!

The wheels look like a back saving addition. I’ve found that the use of a paddle drill bit makes removing foam insulation quick and easy.

psst (shhhhh) metal always drills so much easier at the slowest possible drill speed!! thanks for the video. I was pondering on dingy wheels or not. (still am, but you helped make it an easier decision, reducing the concept of risk)

You could use a bit in a powertool (set to low torc) for the first mile and finish it up with the old fashioned way.

Gotta get you some riv-nuts. They work kinda like the drywall anchors which compress (not the spring-loaded ones) but are for sheet metal. Then you could have just drilled the hole, popped one in, compressed it, and off you go.

What about the galvanic corrosion? SS and aluminium is not a valid combo… Did I miss a mounting of some backing plates?

As and aluminum seem to get along well. Also there is a zinc in the system.

Don't forget to add Tefgel between all different materials. ie between SS and Aluminium, or galvanic corrosion will eat the aluminium!

I always find these videos so dang interesting! I may not need to apply this knowledge, but I certainly appreciate having it in stock XD I did not realize that about stainless steel (but I often lose control of electric drills, so I prefer to use a manual screw driver anyway XD).

Yes but probably not worth it. We had fuel and anchor forward. Most of our grunting was the shape of the beach. It started with a sharp edge. Got easy once we got going.

@@EmilyAndClark But you could quickly accelerate just before the beach and then roll up the beach on wheels (with engine up) ;)

Clark I see a new invention in your future for solo sailors. Get some chain and sprockets and other necessary doodads to motorize those rear wheels with the outboard to bring the dinghy from the water to it's parking spot on the beach. Just kidding...sort of. Why do you have two dinghies? Are they both on deck when cruising or doing passages?
@EmilyAndClark
@EmilyAndClark 3 жыл бұрын
Yes we store both on the boat. Emily wanted to build her own sailboat. She did a whole series of videos in it. Hers is honestly more of her toy but sometimes she goes places on her own using it.

thanks for the stainless tip would the wheels work on a 9 foot fibreglass tender? or would i need smaller as your tender is massive? thanks Clark just seen they do a size smaller but cant get them in England :(
@EmilyAndClark
@EmilyAndClark 3 жыл бұрын
It's all based on the weight of the dinghy and motor. This set goes up to 300 lbs. These cost more then the lighter ones of course but if the money doesn't matter I'd go for these. They extend under the boat so the motor weight lifts the bow making it a bit easier to move and the wheels are more out of the way when folded up.

Wouldn't it be great if they could design a street-legal set of dinghy wheels that would allow you to pull the boat on the roads without needing a trailer.
@EmilyAndClark

The dinghy it's self would need to be really strong.

Excellent video! Do you remove the wheels when storing the dinghy? Where do you store the dinghy on the boat? Also, unrelated question: Do you have SSB and, if so, do you use it?
@EmilyAndClark
@EmilyAndClark 3 жыл бұрын
Sure I have opened HAM gear. I will probably remove them and store them on the yacht as we usually clean the dinghy in the water here as long as it's done before THAT happens. We carry the dinghy on the foredeck. Take a look at our video on this dinghy.
@roncanizares9966

Thank you for your reply. Do you use the SSB much? I ask as I have an ICOM 710RT, a tuner, radials and a Pactor modem sitting in my storage unit, and I'm contemplating installing it. I also have an Iridum-Go that I have used successfully.
@EmilyAndClark
@EmilyAndClark 3 жыл бұрын
I use the PACTOR for weather when I'm out of cell range. Honestly it's been years since I've turned it on as crossings are just days here in the Caribbean. Very soon starlink will be available and I can't imagine using my HAM after that is installed. It's my buggy whip.
