Randall, I've seen the same thing with new queens not wanting to lay right away.

Usually I put in a frame of eggs and brood and check back later and look for queen cells. No queen cells, there must be a queen in the box.

Will you get honey from these hives after splitting?

Probably some. This year we had a late freeze and it set the colonies back and killed alot of blooms. I figure maybe 2-3 mediums of honey per colony tops.

Randall, did you make those double screen boards? If not, where did you buy that simple kind?

I did not make them, they came from blue ridge honey company. (Bob Binnie). They will ship.
