I pulled up a frame of eggs and larvae to the box that was added. The box had all empty plastic foundations except for this frame that was pulled up. Came back two weeks later and the bees drew out the frame that was brought up into the top box all the way to the adjacent foundation, and packed it full of honey. Instead of building on the frame next to the one I pulled up they drew out the one I pulled up way too far. Is this normal?

It does happen sometimes in a strong flow. If the bees haven't been up their drawing comb what are they up to? Are they growing in number?

Thank you for all your very informative videos. Question, when I added a second box this spring I did just as you instructed and moved a frame with open brood up to the second box. The difference is I had drawn comb for the rest of the second box. The girls filled that entire second box with honey, and only use the bottom box for brood.

Awesome series! I want to use single deep management. How do I get the bees build comb on a medium super; I can’t really pull up a deep frame of brood as you show in this episode.

Thymol is also the active ingredient in Listerine. I like Hive Alive, but there are much less expensive ways to prevent syrup from molding.

Got my first nuc of bees here in Texas April 14th. Im few weeks ahead of the series. Been trying to use the info I got from watching your videos. Having this series shows me I have been doing the right thing. Plan on ordering a queen this week so I can split next weekend or the weekend after depending on queen availability.

Nice job with the video, Kamon. Checking the frames and controlling the amount of sugar syrup a new colony gets is really important. This is also where many new beekeepers will go estray. Bee supply companies that recommend one gallon pail feeders with a metal screen melted into the lid don't help matters any. Ask me how I know. lol 🐝🐝

I'm in norther New Hampshire my hive is extremely strong i installed a nuc same time. supply alot of feed and wax. My hive is on the same time line as your. I cant wait to see where this goes if you split it. I probably wont mine due to how far north i am.

I got started in beekeeping this year, and have had my nuc now for 2-3 weeks. Am running a one deep setup. They have 8 frames of wax built out. I've added a super with no qe, but the bees do not seem to want to build on it. Should I look to add additional wax on the frames, or is there another reason why the bees don't want to build?

Put some extra wax on your frames. 1:1 sugar syrup will also stimulate comb development.

@@madmoney191 do not buy it from an online source unless it is one of the major beekeeping supply places. It is best to get it from a local beekeeper who melts down their own. The stuff on the internet tends to be a lot of paraffin wax mixed in.

The following will help: Adding additional true beeswax to the frame, spraying the frame with sugar water while also feeding a very light sryup 1:1 or even thinner.... for example you could do 1 part sugar and 1.5 or 2 parts water... thin syrup tends to simulate a nectar flow. You can also take the end frames and move them a few frame positions inward toward the center. So instead of positions 1, and 10, move them to positions 3, and 8.

Yes sometimes. Once I add the box on top they really do most of the comb drawing up there. After 2 weeks or so I will pull any frames not finished in the bottom box to the top box and drop comb below. I think both methods would work Dave as long as you don't isolate any brood.

Hi Kamon! Really enjoying this series! My Nucs should be ready for pickup any time and I'm learing a lot here! I have some enteance feeders but ot seems most folks don't use them? As a newbee, is this bucket tyoe what you would recommend? If so...where can i purchase a couple? Thanks again for all your well explained information!!

The one way you can use the "entrance feeder" without inducing robbing is to place it on top of the inner cover of the hive, then take a medium super and place it around the feeder then the lid on top of that.... that way it serves as a "housing" for the entrance feeder sitting on top of the inner cover. Just make sure the notch is either blocked or on the opposite side of the entrance feeder. My preferred way of feeding, and I am pretty sure Kamon does this mostly also is using in frame feeders.

If those drones are already hatched, leave them alone. Much more important question: Do you have enough worker brood?

Gday mate. This might sound silly but when you put the feeder on wouldn’t it just all leek out and flood the top box. It ok you can call me dum lol
