Great looking tank. I love the simple design and look of the tank! I would add some empty shells for those hermits. As they molt and get bigger they can kill the snails if they cant find a bigger shell in the tank. Also keep an eye if the clown fish start gasping for air. with closed glass top there is not a lot of oxygen added to the tank and if you get some bacterial blooms that can spend a lot of oxygen in the water. Good luck reefing!

Thanks for the tips! I have a couple of snail shells in the back but I do need a few more bigger ones for them to grow into along the way. Good tip on the lid as well! Something I hadn't though too much about but the panel above the wave maker end has some airflow gaps that should be plenty. It's the same on the end where the lilly pipes are. I will probably have to think a out a summer lid though because this one might get a bit hot so I'll need to be ready for that.

@@IndoorEcosystem I'll add on to this. What you will regret (TRUST me about this) about having the top of your tank enclosed with glass lids has nothing to do with oxygen levels. The glass will quickly become encased with a solid layer of salt and there is no fix for it unless you plan on cleaning the panels every single day. You will quickly find that cleaning them every day is a pain in the ass and just get rid of them altogether. The glass itself will also filter out light wavelengths beneficial for algae and corals. When the salt builds up, the quality of light quickly decreases to even worse levels. Been there, Know that!

@@djmerchant thanks for the info. So far I haven't had problems with salt but I have been wiping them down once a week. As for the light spectrum stuff I saw serpa had problems with this though his tanks were quite deep I've just been running a slightly higher intensity light to compensate. But it looks like a mesh custom lid is in the pipeline.

Great video, thank you, I'm planning a shallow reef with 6 mangrove plants. I will make it a type of reef that will be specially made for that biotype. My biggest baby are nearly a meter tall. I'm resquing mangrove pods here in South Africa.

Sounds like an awesome project! I was considering doing a mangrove in this one as well but they are quite hard to come by here so I went with macro algae. mangrove swamps are super interesting environments so a biotope style would be amazing to see.

A word of advice on the soft corals and the macro algae: They both tend to use irritants to fight for nearby real estate, which stony corals can be especially sensitive to without carbon filtration or a skimmer, to keep it at non-problematic levels. They are themselves unaffected, hence why they are often found together on eutrophic reefs. I should stress that we are talking about a big biomass before a problem manifests, but it is a well known concern in the hobby. We are excited to see how the tank develops!
@IndoorEcosystem

Thanks for the advice! I appreciate it! I didn't actually know macro algae deployed irritants but I was aware softies use it. I will certainly keep an eye on it moving forward but I'm also already in the habit of running carbon just in case!

Very cool! I've always really liked the look of macro algaes. The crabs and snails are super cute, nice clownfish, too. That's too bad about the waving hand coral, hopefully the others will do well for you. I enjoyed the music you chose for this also, very nicely done! Looking forward to the next update 🙂👍

Thank for stopping by Tara ☺Clownfish are the strangest fish I've kept, they have such funny personalities and bicker between eachother all the time. It's hilarious to watch. The hermits are pretty funny as well they always come out at the same time everynight and roam around as a little couple.

For clown fish, Amphiprion Ocellaris, be perfectly happy, you would need to make a specific tank, with the corresponding symbiotic anemone, in this case, Heteractis Magnifica and or Stichodactyla gigantea, that is to say unfortunately very hard difficult to maintain and especially to maintain alone because both become gigantic. In addition, if you place her in a place that she doesn't like, she will come off the rock to swim a little further and land where the mixing is suitable for him. Afterwards I know that they can be satisfied with a Sarkophyton( very good Nitrate pump by the way ) or a Pachiclavularia, but the latter will be a little disturbed. P.S : From a detrivor point of view, I advise you to take a Mespillia Globulus sea urchin, it is very friendly, it puts a whole bunch of waste on its head in a natural way to camouflage it and protect it from predators ^^ And a Blennie, as another fish, they have very endearing personalities.

I got a small amount of chaeto and some random other ones and they absolutely demolish any nitrates I was super surprised how fast they work. So far they stay on 0-5ppm when I test. I have to feed pretty heavy to even get them to register around 10. Phosphates are staying low as well. I do want to keep a stable 15ppm though, so as I add more life I think I'll get to my target. Macro algae is surprisingly beautiful as well. Much more than it shows in video.

@IndoorEcosystem

Thanks 😊 I don't actually have a macro lens (yet) but recording in 4k, as close to the subject as the focus distance of the lens let's me means I can use the zoom feature in davinci resolve without losing much quality. Then I just apply a tiny sharpness filter to fix any loss. It's not perfect but it works quite well when viewed at any resolution lower than 4k.

@@ReefAdventure thanks for the sub 😊 I mostly do vampire crab stuff so reef is a new adventure for me. As for KZbin I'm pretty new myself but I think it's best to just roll with your own style and evolve it as you get used to filming and editing. As long as every new video is a tiny bit better than the last you're on the right track. Views are always a mixed bag so don't feel down if a video flops! It happens all the time 🤣

Is the flow not enough/too much with just the Oase BioMaster Thermo 250?, I am thinking about getting a similar tank with the Oase FiltoSmart 100 version. Nice tank!!
@IndoorEcosystem
@IndoorEcosystem 3 ай бұрын
Thanks, people are a bit skeptical about canisters being nitrate factory's but so far I'm not encountering any issues at all. I run a small wave maker on the opposite side as well to give randomised flow. The flow from the Oase is quite good but it's a bit to constant and always in the same direction so the wave maker randomised everything perfectly.
@sher666
@sher666 3 ай бұрын
@@IndoorEcosystem Thanks for your response! If the flow from the BioMaster 250 is not to much I will go for that one as well, thanks again!
@IndoorEcosystem
@IndoorEcosystem 3 ай бұрын
@@sher666 No problem 🙂 It's not so much about the flow rate it's mostly about the randomisation of the flow. A lot of coral needs flow variation. If you have water flowing in one direction the entire time some corals will die. At least that's what I've come across during research. So the wave maker on the other end set to random bursts makes the tank a lot more turbulent. I hope that makes a bit more sense.
@sher666
@sher666 3 ай бұрын
@@IndoorEcosystem It makes a lot of sense!, I will have a small wave maker as well, and I will lps and soft corals so I thought the 250 version might be to much, but it looks fine on yours and my new tank will have almost the same dimensions. In the past I have had issues with to much flow, that is why I asked. Thanks again and looking forward to how your tank develops!
@IndoorEcosystem
@IndoorEcosystem 3 ай бұрын
@@sher666 Yep the flow is pretty much perfect. I'm just running the standard prefilter foam and a pretty standard set of bio rings and a bit of live rock in the main parts so flow is quite free. Been going really well so far. The prefilter is a game changer as well!
