I put one of these door lock popper kits in my big Ford van back in 2018. It still works great! I paid about $20 for the kit. The 'official' conversion kit from Ford was nearly $300.

The one thing I would caution with those mirrors is that when you do start taking your rig on expeditions you will find that tree branches are very unforgiving which is the one reason I did not install those. A small bit of downforce on them will test the strength of the door metal. I look forward to seeing you put them to use though. Perhaps they will be just fine.... I know the OEM ones I am using get beat to hell if we are not careful...

Yeah I’m more worried about them now that I’ve folded them a couple of time. The spring to fold them is a lot stronger than I would like.

The typical convention of extra wires is not to cut them off, but rather bend them down and neatly wrap around the wire bundle and tape into place. In the event on wire goes bad, you have the extra wire already in place.

Very clean, your making my list longer. What about adding support to the mirror bracket so it goes from top to bottom of the door
@BrokeOverLand4 жыл бұрын
I like the free hanging look of these mirrors. That said after adding the all thread stiffeners in the door, it reduced the flex to an acceptable level.

Ddddd-a-a-a-an-g-g! That is so cool, and the first I have ever watched someone tackle this project. Mirrors look great, but I like the auto door lockers and windows best. Love the ending reel, too! Made me snort milk out my nose! Very, very nice!

those mirrors look amazing, to bad about the stupid motor. Just wondering are you keeping a wiring diagrams of everything, so couple years from now when you are in some south American rain forest and something happens to you 5G wifi mobile hot spot you are not trying to remember how you wired it. having the power window for the passenger window is a must but not sure I would have put one the driver's side, ( only after I saw it work, so you know ) really wondering what it is you do for work, I had a job years ago where I built robots for assembly lines in the auto industry, a lot of the skills you displayed today were very similar to what I use to do, hell even the tools where the same, I mean I still have 3 of the Weller soldering iron, the exact same heat gun, even down to the way you sealed the ends of the braided wire cover, it was chilling to watch.

Hey, real quick question. I have the option of replacing my plastic door liners with metal ones. I was thinking that would be better long term for sound and attaching things. Are yours plastic? Did they need to flex to avoid the window crank driver mechanism? Been living all the videos. Keep them coming! Keep posting amazon links and I will keep supporting the channel. Thanks!
@BrokeOverLand4 жыл бұрын
I have the metal ones. They have enough flex to get around everything. I do like the metal ones more than the plastic ones. As for sound deadening. Best bet is some dynamat on the door side and the back of the door panel.
@dcraigslist52434 жыл бұрын
Broke OverLand Nice! I just swapped metal ones in. I had one plastic and one metal. Now both metal. I was going to Killmat the outside and dynamat rubber pad the inside. Do you have links to the products you used?

Just bought the door locking kit. Mine comes to connect to the turn indication flashing lights(To flash when you open or close) Where can I find the connection on the dashboard? Do you recommend connecting it?
@BrokeOverLand4 жыл бұрын
I didn’t connect mine. But you could connect it to port H on the light switch cannon plug for the marker lights. For the flashers you could connect it to the hazard switch.

Were the mirrors worth the cost? I can find replacement heated mirrors without power movement for around $100. Contemplating not adding just heat. What do you think?

I haven’t finished the AC system yet. The mirror brackets. I’ve added studs from the interior panel that presses up against the plate on the outside door skin. It has helped a ton. But I want to make a plate for the interior door skin to give it more rigidity.
