Adding the X-Mansion to Your Lego Modular City

yeah needed to be a one off open book style playset rather than modular, so that the 2 sides made it look wider and the sentinel could attack the mansion while playing with the interior. Which would be the vibrancy to offset the dull exterior.

It literally looks like a miniature house compared to basically every single modular, and it certainly doesn't feel like a mansion in the slightest. But that's not the only issue I have with the building. It also lacks detail compared to modulars. It looks like a toy house while other modulars have a far more realistic aesthetic to them. I think that's probably because they based this off of the cartoon mansion. I really think they dropped the ball with this one. I hope that in the future when the X-men are part of the MCU we'll see a proper version of this building based on the cinematic one.

Yeah it’s not right tucked in between other buildings. Maybe at the end of a park where it has space around it. Or in a forest or residential area. In a city it’s a fail.

i think the only way to make it look nice along other modulars is to add 2 rows of bricks for every floor, 1 under and one over the windows and maybe increase the lenght of the 2 lateral wings by a couple of bricks. i shouldn't be too difficult nor too costly, but i don't know how the stair inside is made

One more combo to consider is the police station and your botanical gardens MOC. That said, I greatly appreciate this comparison video as it helped make my decision NOT to pick this set up. Looks oddly small next to most everything.

I think the X-Mansion looks like garbage up against the modulars. It’s out of scale and the facade is underdeveloped. No offense intended, it is, what it is. It looks ok by the garden though.

Put it next to your moc of the friends botanical gardens. Moon garden on the other side. The museum is a superior structure so it highlights everything the mansion is lacking. Canonically this mansion should be separated from other 'city' structures.

Thank you for taking the time to make this video! I was on the fence about buying this set, more of a modular fan than an X Men fan, and I was worried that it wouldn't look good in my city. But, the Police Station and Lantern Festival combo looks great! I will definitely be picking up the X Mansion if I can ever find it on sale. I think the Latern Festival and X Mansion may look good on either side of the Botanical Gardens set!

I'm genuinely surprised you picked this set up - it's absolutely fine by itself (pricey but fine) but it doesn't stack up at all well vs the other Marvel modulars let alone the regular ones. Think the Police Station/Springs Lantern Festival was definitely the best choice though. Great work!

This shows that the x mansion is not minifigure scale just minifigure compatible.

@@BrickWatcher I wish more people would make that distinction when discussing Lego, especially reviewers! Just because you can theoretically shove a minifig inside doesn't make something to scale with it. Most Lego structures are too small to be to scale.

looked at this and botanical gardens instore, same price.. but this one certainly looked underwhelming. It really needs to be extended to 2 full baseplates plus an additional floor to justify calling it a mansion.

Also, it's very clear in this video that the floors themselves are shorter than regular modular floors. So not only does it need to be higher and wider, but every floor needs like a brick and a half added to its height imo.

Totally agree with the 2 baseplates, could then have 2-3 studs of green plate down the side so it's not pressed up against other modulars and has some room to breathe.

Since the X-Mansion is so short and set back it really can't be butted up against another modular building. It needs some space on either side of it so it doesn't look so odd squeezed between the bigger buildings. Something not pointed out was the X-Mansion has a chimney on each side which in real life wouldn't be flat against a taller building, so that looks odd in all your groupings. I would look better in an 'estate' setting and maybe on a raised area so it looks bigger.

Idea for another video: A number of people have commented on Lego's inconsistent scaling of buildings. Lego sets are all over the place, and you also hear people casually, incorrectly calling things "minifigure scale," when they're way too small to be in scale to an average human that the minifig represents--or to the real-world subject matter. Just because you can sort of get your hand in a Lego room and try to stand a minifig in it doesn't make it minifig scale. Think of the World's Smallest Natural History Museum modular or the otherwise superb Lion Knights' Castle that has ridiculously spindly towers that are about six scale feet across. Why did they include a ton of minifigs that look ludicrous posed in/on the set? And the X-Mansion is no mansion at all, but rather the size of a tiny suburban home next to the minifigs.

lego has a serious issue with scale. I wish they would set a scale and market it on the box so you know which sets go together. Please set a standard.

Ahhh the X-Mansion, one of 2024's most OVERhyped sets by far that is a complete faceplant. Maybe worse than the UCS sail barge which at least will pay good dividends down the road and has substantial scale, plus an amazing lightsaber GWP if you bought it early. This "modular" though only serves a figure supply set really and yes it will retire eventually, but not before going through an aggressive discount phase. The scale is too small as your video demonstrates. I can just picture Zoolander looking at this building and exclaiming "what is this a [Mansion] for [Lego figures]?! The building must at least be [in scale with the other Modulars]!!!

IMO, crap design. If Lego can't figure out how to create a model of the Mansion that represents the Mansion, then don't do it. Maybe consider that their profit margins are not in line with what they are selling. Yeah, I'm mad- this should've been awesome- like the museum. It just is NOT to scale. Such a shame. I'll pass on this one- I'm NOT buying $100+ more bricks to "moc" it to actually resemble the Mansion. *sighs* So sad. 😢

Totally agree, the scale is just wrong, it's playset scale and level of detail. I wouldn't mind if the price wasn't for a premium modular which this just isn't.

trying to make this a modular was such a mistake... could have been the best super hero set.... the only one I might have wanted but it is just too expensive to make right again and even the mini fig selection feels lack for the price. They can make CMF level minis for 5$, these are like 35$ worth of mini parts and rest is aweful build that could have been an epic open book style playset.

If you had the right pieces how hard would it be to just extend eeach room/section out 1/2 studs in each direction width/height? I feel like it would be possible as long as you kept the other details the aame like windows and stuff. I truly feel like all this set needed was to just fill the baseplate....

I think it looks absolutely awful next to the Chinese Garden. The amount of detail and the scale of that really shows the lack of both in the X-Mansion. I think the best companion has got to be the fire brigade. It doesnt have the amount of details to swallow the mansion completely. Goes to show, it's on a lower complexity level than 15 years ago.

When i look at regular modulars. They all have something to complain about, but in general they look fine, and sometimes, but not always, upsizing them is cool. In my opinion there are only a few that look really good when upsized. This Xmansion cant handle itself without upsizing it. And that is sad. Who wants to pay around the price of 3 sets to make it stand out??? I wont! Another point is that it looks small in comparoson to the other stuff in the series as well. Just not a great set 😢

I think there was a mistake with the name, they missed out two words at the end. The official title is "X-Mens Mansions Garden Shed", for some reason they missed out the Garden Shed. This set seems little more than daylight robbery, when you put it next to the museum which is a set that costs less than the X-Mens Garden Shed but manages to look more like a mansion than the "mansion", I almost burst out laughing. I took a look at it for myself in the shop and I am not at all impressed, it is so small, who approved this travesty? Someone needs to be fired.

I think it’s pathetic. It’s a completely different scale. Even the height of each floor is smaller. It’s too shallow and the dome is terrible. Not worth $429.00 Canadian. Very disappointed. Lego is pricing itself out of reach for a senior AFOL , starting to find alternative brands who have much better value and equal quality of bricks. Sorry Lego, you are loosing your adult fans with your outrageous prices and declining value. 😜😎👍🇨🇦

That's been my experience: less and less Lego due to crazy prices and declining quality but more and more of other brands due to more interesting designs/themes and way better pricing.

@@SO-ym3zs…… I have bought 6 FunWhole sets so far and I’m sure there will be more. I found out that F.O. bricks are made by GoBricks. The quality (for me) is equivalent to Lego, so I am now looking for “other” brands that are using GoBricks. I spent a fortune on Lego, but I’m retired now and they are getting out of my price range. Anyone who has a good quality Rick and a reasonable price will be getting my business. Happy building from Canada.👍😎🇨🇦
