"When those mums kick the bucket." Oh! I haven't heard anyone use that 'kick the bucket' phrase since my mother died in 2009. Another term she used was 'croak'. Her plants croaked or kicked the bucket when they didn't came back to live again. Fall is a good time of the year to get plants at discounts, but I do need to be very careful to get perennials which are healthy. After all, there's a reason - besides being surplus - plants are left over at the end of the season. Also, I'd suggest checking for spider mites on the arborvitae. Brown areas can be from insect infestation. I'd suggest a light application of Neem three-in-one spray just to be sure. Before planting from pots, I soak the root ball in water treated with nutrients whether or not the planting medium is dry. The finer the roots, the less soaking time. I find the nutrient powders/granules to be really helpful, and follow up with compost mixed in the planting hole and applied on top around the root zone. Can't say every plant grows and doesn't kick the bucket, but this does seem to help so I don't lose as many.
@growformegardening Жыл бұрын
Haha I’m glad you enjoyed the kicking the bucket… this has been a fun season to make videos. Thank you for watching!!

Because I can't grow macrophylla hydrangea in the ground, all of mine go in pots and do absolutely beautifully! My favorite panicle hydrangea Is good old Pinky Winky. It looks great all summer, holds it's blooms up without drooping and gives amazing fall color. Plus it's an open bloom so all the pollinators can get in and get their nectar!

Hey guys!! I grow alot of big leaf Hydrangeas. It's recommended to dispose of any leaves and leaf litter that has fungus and/or powdery mildew. That way it won't carry over to next season. I do this every year and it has really helped. I see the Monrovia (Seascape?) Hydrangeas you planted have some. I really enjoy your show and how closely you pay attention to plant combinations...color, leaf texture and shape..❤

LOL, just when I thought you were about done planting, you go and find all these good deals. My big box stores are about done with clearance. I'm glad you found your Seaside Serenade! Love the whimsical Juniper on the side of the house. I was bad myself and bought a hydrangea and a few Japanese Maples from Mr. Maple. Yes Christopher, there is always room for a few more trees. There are dwarf varieties. Watched their show on white Japanese Maples and found a couple of those highlighted and maybe four others.... I also want to thank You for naming the white Peony with the small red in the center. I just transplanted from my Mom's bed, which originally came from my grandmother's. I'll re-watch the prior episode and write the name down. Keep planting, you still have more room!

You're getting so much done, I love it! I am deep in fall clean up mode too. I can't do another hectic Spring trying to clean up AND plant again. So it's great to see fellow gardeners with similar styles. Question: Where you need to remove the grass...can you use one paper bag and just smother that grass and cover it with compost? I'm wondering if that'd work for you too. Thanks for so many wonderful videos, I love your video style of working and talking at the same time. So many KZbinrs talk for 40 minutes and have 3 minutes of planting. I still like the vid's but I need the inspiration at my age not the education. 😂😂😂😂😂😂

Hi, first of all, let me say that you are by far my favorite channel, I love your style I just really really love it that’s all I can say. I have a question I am afraid of bugs and spiders and stuff if I plant my plants too close to my house. I don’t want them to like you know go up under any cracks or crevices and make their way inside. I want to keep them away as much as I can. How far out would you say I could plant so I have a walkway behindmy garden that is you know lining my house?
@growformegardening Жыл бұрын
I completely understand this. I have my own awful embarrassing fear in the garden…of a reptile nature. I actually don’t plan around them. They will be there and they are part of the ecosystem you are creating. Maybe try to plant very low maintenance plants so you don’t have to get up close.
