My dad died about 6 weeks ago. He was at home so that we could care for him there. This was his favourite piece of music. He went into a coma the day before he died, Mum and I played it to him in his coma. He opened his eyes and looked around and then went back to sleep. Glad he got to hear his favourite music as he went onto his new journey.

Hello :) Your Dad and mine clearly both loved this beautiful piece of music, which always has the power to reduce me to tears. My dear Dad died in England, early in the morning on 04Mar22. I will be ever grateful that on Sunday 27Feb22 I, via Skype, was able to play another favourite of his (Fuer Elise) which actually awoke him briefly from the deep, dementia-induced sleep he was in. It was wonderful that he recognised another favourite piece of music.

Sorry to hear about your dad. My dad died way back in 2004 and he loved this song and it was played at his funeral. Every time I hear the song it brings so much emotion and reminds me of him. I certainly have grown to appreciate these amazing songs and tenors as I've grown older. My dad's favourite tenors were Jussi Byorling and Placido Domingo but I still remember him saying that Pavarotti was possibly the best of them all.

My dad was a tenor and he absolutely loved listening to all the famous singers of days gone by. Amongst his favourites were Jussi Byorling,,Richard Tauber, Placido Domingo, Gigli . I once asked him who he thought was the finest tenor of all.. I seriously thought he would have gone for one of the old ones like Caruso or Byorling who was his favourite. He sat for a few seconds and then said that he regarded Pavarotti as the best. As time goes by,,, I absolutely agree with him. Pavarotti just seems to have that absolute quality that captures the attention of even non classical music loving people. He was a true legend. His performance in Paris in 1998 of Nessan Dorma was I believe his finest hour and absolute perfection. Try not to have a tear in your eye from the pure emotion when he hits the highest note at the end of the song. Absolutely brilliant.

@@dopeydawg8954 that’s a bit harsh. There are plenty of tenors I prefer over Pavarotti. Not saying he’s a bad singer, but he certainly was not “the greatest” as everyone claims he was. I don’t blame them for thinking that, as he’s probably the only tenor most non-classical music fans have heard. It kind of makes it hard to compare. I think Pavarotti had some great roles, but I find it ironic that most of his more iconic recordings (Mostly Verdi and heavier Puccini) are not what I would consider the best. It’s subjective after all, all these guys were at the top of the world at the time and to place one completely above another is kidding yourself.
