Il ne manque pas de voix mais il n'y a plus de professeurs de chants. Je suis dégoûtée de voir à la télévision des rares retransmissions d'opéras, mal chantés, et des mises en scène à vomir😷.

One of her best portrayals is Cassandra in Berlioz' Les Troyens. The complete opera is on cd with the very ineresting and superb Regina Resnik. Steber's Cassandra is spectacularly well sung and got to the core of this tortured soul. It's worth the look.

I love Steber & anything she performed was worth hearing. I have the complete DVD of this Broadcast but, IMO, she had not her best success as a Verdi soprano although these days she would probably make a fine contribution. Her great roles for her special silvery timbre were, I feel, in Mozart, Strauss, & the lighter Wagner roles such as Elsa in Lohengrin. The same limitations with her TOSCA which she took on relatively late in her career. But she still had the technique & stylistic gifts to make all her work interesting & this is quite clear in her mammoth recital from 1958 which remains one of the most amazing displays of sheer stamina & ambition that I have yet to hear. Steber also scored highly in much contemporary works ranging from the opera VANESSA to that same composers KNOXVILLE SUMMER OF 1915. All things considered, Steber remains one of the truly great American singers but no artist, that I know of & with such a wide range of repertoire, will be equally suitable for all they present to the public.

In 1955 Steber could sing just about anything well. This is excellent throughout until the last couple of bars, where she interpolates a trill and an extra breath that sort of blows the tag of this wonderful scena.
