Graduated OSUT 2 days ago... basic is fairly easy even if you’re out of shape. “SMOKINGS” are not as bad as you may think and over the time of basic they become very easy. I came in unable to do a single push up and left doing 53. All you need to do is push yourself on your personal time and throughout your training. Drill Sargents will always help you with whatever you’re struggling with as long as you’re truly trying your best. Best of luck to anyone who is shipping out soon.

Matt Ward I went to a recruiter I did every thing I possible can to sign up for the asvab because I fail the practice test twice. Came back after 3 months saying I’m ready to take a practice test told me get your weight up than come back because your skinny gain 20 pounds. Told me your not ready because you need a 50 and above to get in even tho I told them I have a high school diploma. I feel like the recruiter are punking me out

Have a positive mindset, and just remember that basic training is there to make you into a better soldier or even a better person. You are also paid to learn, exercise, and shoot guns. Way better than working at wendys for 10 bucks an hour.

I've always had this urge to join the military in some way but never wanted to do the "real thing", and I say this loosely. Things always convinced me I shouldn't like family, girlfriend of 7 years now fiance, college, jobs. Fast forward I'm 25 now, out of school (with debt), decent 9-5 job, going to get a house and get married next year and thought the feeling of wanting to do this in my life and be a part of something bigger/improve my 5 foot 7 145lbs self with not really alot of skills would go away. Long story short I've watched a lot of your videos and am thinking about the Army Reserves. I don't have a particular MOS in mind, not too big with computers but I mainly want to do something that I could be good at/gain skills and be a supportive soldier in the Reserves. Still on the fence, I don't want to leave and hurt my relationship/job but I feel like I could maintain both. I'm worried about what my job will do if I try to join with being gone so long. I feel like i want to talk to my fiance because her dad was in the army so i feel like she'd understand but i know she wouldn't want me to be gone so long. Plus i feel like a lot of the benefits could really help us. This is a big of a cluster f but i felt like sharing if yourself or anyone wanted or had some advice for me. Glad i got that off my chest lol.

GhostLives Hey man I was in the same situation as you, I got a wife and 2 kids and a solid job........ but I decided to join the army reserve as a 88m, I will leave on March. The thing that made me do it was mainly my kids, it’s a small sacrifice you will do by been away for a few month but in the long run I think it will be Worth it. FYI you job can’t not fire you because you are joining is against the law.
@Ace-hg3vx
@Ace-hg3vx 4 жыл бұрын
@@joachinroger hey thank you so much for the reply! I have incredible respect for you and your family and I know that's an even bigger sacrifice than what I would be making. Yeah I heard about that about the job I guess I'm more worried about when I return and I know my performance would be bad since I'd forget alot but maybe I'm just overthinking. For me I feel like I would really regret it later in life and you're right for just a handful if months long term would be incredibly beneficial. I wish you the best of luck in your future, thank you!

Almost done with basic training! today was crazy.. this guy died it was wild but luckily I was there to save his life because I was a navy ranger before joining the army so I was able to parachute down to where he was and issue a field dress kit so he could start breathing on his own. Thankfully I learned from the best my uncle Don.. you might know him as retired navy seal Don Shipley.. anyway I’ll check back in when I finish the rest of my basic training before I head off to pilot school to eventually fly planes for the president in Air Force one.. peace out civilians have no fear I’m here to protect and preserve your freedom

I’m at Fort Benning right now. 11B, but I’m home for Christmas (yes, we got to come home during basic) just remember your mind will quit before your body does, it sounds cliche but it’s true. It sucks but you chose OSUT so it isn’t easy. Once you get into it and get in the groove it gets easier. When you have your CQ brief at 19:00 telling you what you are doing the next day, and it’s something you really don’t want to do (like the ruck marches at 4 in the morning or gas chamber) just tell yourself it will be fun and that there have been a lot of people that are dumber and less fit than you that have done. You’ll be fine bro

My guy, I just graduated there on Nov 7, I hope you like the freezing cold bc it will be below 30s and in the 20s for you. RIP on your FTXs. When you get sniffle gear just remember you they take forever to dry when wearing them and the nice comfy fleece jacket you will get, won't be used. At least I never got the chance to use it. Enjoy your stay at the 43rd for reception you should be done in 4 to 6 days depending if your go across the street on the first ship.

Wouldn’t recommend waiting to you graduate because seniors are the top dogs right now for recruiters in other words jobs don’t just stay available longer you wait less jobs you’ll have because like I said seniors are getting first pick for everything now if you wait until you graduate your job MIGHT now be available causing you to have a later ship date usually next year so secure your job now and just because you’re enlisting now doesn’t mean you’ll leave right after high school

YouReallyDontKnow I’m just overweight (I’m within tape standards so I’m good to go) but I don’t want to be that one guy who is always in the back. I can do roughly 35 push-ups and 35 sit ups, but it’s the running part I’m worried about. I know my recruiter told me Cav scouts have to be like super fit, so it’s just worryful I suppose. Do you have snapchat or Instagram or anything?

Hey Matt I really liked this video and I was also wondering because I’m wanting to do infantry but I was wondering how long would I be deployed at a time and how long do you get to be home after you come back from deployment, And also could you do a video or maybe just talk about what AIT is like for infantry soldiers and how long and if they are strict on you.
@MattWard89
@MattWard89 4 жыл бұрын
Infantry doesn't do AIT it's all OSUT so the DS relax a little but not much considering they stay the same. But deployments are maxed at 9months now. The way it's supposed to work is however long you are deployed you have to be home for twice that long before you can deploy again. At least having them tell you that you have to deploy.

You're not getting that MOS. It's a fact that the position is too highly requested due to new recruits like you thinking it's available, which it never is. The soldiers in that position pretty much retire from it and never give it up. In short, unless you want to wait for one of them to retire, pick a different MOS.

@@whiteamerican1988 I will keep trying until I see a position available, however it's not my only interest but it is up there with the rest of them. I appreciate the info on that mos as well I kinda figured whoever holds those positions would stay in them but you know it's worth a shot at the least

@macburger5026 4 жыл бұрын
good luck. You know you'd not only have to work hard to get in shape but also for the Armys height/weight body fat standards plus the Army's new PT test ( which in some ways might be harder than the Marines' test) plus (if you're going active duty) you'd have to work yourself up to the army's PT standards period. We and the Marines do the most hard running of the branches plus we do ruck marches, which if you don't know are these marches where we wear huge backbacks and have to go miles and miles often in time limits. You'd also have to be in good enough shape for other physical things about the army like the motor pool where lots of soldiers (one difference we have compared to other branches) go all day lifting heavy crap like tents and other things in and out of storage sheds.

Workout 6 days a week, leg workouts should hit cardio (not as bad as running), ab workouts, and arm workouts. High protein, low carb diet will help. Make sure your calories match to what you want to do (lose fat or gain muscle mass/strength). Build your stamina and always push past your limits, they will make you do it anyway and punish you more if you don't look like you're trying.

Once you sign that contract that says what your MOS is and you ship out to basic then they can’t change your MOS UNLESS you want to change it OR you fail every PT test in basic and they are forced to put you in a different job. That’s really it. Or if your unit gets folded over and merged with a different unit that is primarily a different MOS then they might have you switch, but that’s rare and they still probably won’t MAKE you change MOS, they’ll just give you the option to change if you want. If you sign a contract with your MOS on the paper and you can pass a PT test in the 3-4 months you’re there then you will be fine my man.

I feel too many people think basic training is like a Special Forces selection process. They lose sight of what basic training is designed to do, and that's to take a civilian and turn them into a soldier. And remember by the time you get to basic training the Army has already spent thousands of dollars on you so they're going to make sure you succeed so that they protect their investment. So just go in with a open mind, do what your told, listen to the instructors and give it your best and you're going to graduate.

Masked Philosophy You can't be serious. If you had any sense in your head, especially with much more prominent crowdsourced information about the differences of the branches, you'd want to join the Air Force or Navy or Coast Guard ( work smarter, not harder). I'm Army. Between the Army and Marine Corps, they're *BOTH* arguably the worst branches to be in. The Army would arguably be a better choice, since it's second from the worst vs Marines being the #1 worst.
