Retired US Army Signal Corp. Everything you stated is true. Unfortunately ones body eventually breaks down and injuries happen. I have Patella pain Syndrome unfortunately from the constant running jumping.

Regardless if you’re picking a MOS, deciding what branch to enlist, deciding to reenlist or planning to transition out of the military these 6 factors are items you need to consider 1. Recruiters get paid and try to meet their quota regardless of if your experience in the military is awful or amazing. 2. You have to pick based on the options available to you. Some options are based on the following: availability of position, needs of the branch to get more recruits, some options are based on physical criteria, if you meet any criteria to enter at a higher rank, some restrictions like having to do a oversees tour is mandatory. It is important you keep in mind not all state benefits are the same. You could choose to wait for different options that a recruiter presents you if you meet the criteria based on availability. Waiting for different options may or may not be better based on several factors like ASVAP score, availability of a position, In knowing what options are available to you keep in mind your options could be compromised by the help you receive from your support system, resources you currently have, family obligations , individual obligations that may cause you to make a military commitment faster 3. You need to decide based on what you want to get out of the military when you are in? 4. What do you want to get out of the military when you get out? 5. Make your decision by doing your research and assessing the possibility of both extremes In a military contract you can negotiate the following items: Location, MOS, Duration of time in service, Bonus, If applicable student loan forgiveness amount. Keep in mind whatever decision you make could feel like a dream or a nightmare. It is important to also keep in mind there are 2 items you have no control over in your military contract: • If there is a stoploss (for the entire military, your branch, or just your MOS) • How good your leadership and direct supervisors are An example of a dream scenario would be an individual who wants to see combat enlist active duty and receives the following: is put in a combat MOS in a combat unit, gets a rapid deployment unit, enlist with a bonus for the amount of time they want, they are happy with the benefits their state offers veterans and get all the benefits awarded to veterans that they want to transition well to civilian life from their enlistment, they have great leadership and does not have a stoploss. This experience makes for them to feel they have the foundation to transition well to civilian life. This could be a nightmare scenario if an individual who wants to see combat enlist and receives the following: is put in a combat MOS in a training unit, that trains units to going to war like Fort Polk or Fort Irwin, this unit is constantly preparing others to go to combat but did not go overseas, the individual enlist with a no bonus , has poor leadership and has a stoploss. , they are not happy with the benefits their state offers veterans and does not feel they are ready to transition well to civilian life from their enlistment This experience makes you feel you do not have foundation to transition well to civilian life. A example of dream scenario would be someone getting all of the following: is put in a non-MOS in a combat support at unit, this unit does not deal with deployment during your time in service, enlist with a bonus for the amount of time they want, have great leadership and does not have a stoploss. , they are happy with the benefits their state offers veterans and get all the benefits awarded to veterans that they want to transition well to civilian life from their enlistment, A dream scenario for National Guard or reserve is the following: is put in a MOS you want , In a type of unit you want (that is geographically close to you as well) , enlist with a bonus for the amount of time they want, have great leadership , does not have a stoploss, your able to have a job that covers your cost of living and are able to pursue you big future plans while in National guard or reserve without any delays or debts. , they are happy with the benefits their state offers veterans and get all the benefits awarded to veterans that they want to transition well to civilian life from their enlistment, A nightmare scenario for National Guard or reserve is the following: is put in a MOS you do not want , In a type of unit you do not want (that is geographically far from you , like 4 hours) , enlist with no bonus, have poor leadership , get stoploss, are unable to have a job that does not covers their cost of living and are unable to pursue or significantly delay their big future plans while in National guard or reserve with causing significant delays and debts. 6. How invested and committed are you to achieving you are in achieving what you want? This means research, planning, patience, sacrifice, consistency, improvising, re strategizing to ensure you get what you want, monitoring progress and introspection

I went to Paris island and Fort LeonardWood. Paris island before the army and integrated training. (Long story don’t ask) marine corps you will just push and be screamed at until lights out they will mess you up all day if need be. In the army this was like 2024 I had a few females that would look a DS in the face and say no I’m not doing that and might maybeee be counseled for it. Big difference in times and branches…

It’s just a shitty experience but how badly do you want it…if you want it bad enough, you’ll put up with their games at RASP but if you aren’t confident enough, you’ll crumble under pressure. Either way, you don’t know until you try!

I have a rotator cuff tear, its been a while since i dislocated it but it hurts a little with some specific movements with weight on it so the chance of it happening again are there. If you know of someone with this issue that joined the military please reply, thanks.

A young man who was not there (have actual experience) vs hundreds of us “old timers” who were there and have 40 years of service (like me). I wonder - who do you think is right? Believe me when I say - today’s care bear Army is allot easier!

You can 100% join as a warrant officer- it’s called aviation. And warrant officers aren’t “kind of treated” like officers, they are officers. That’s why they become commissioned when they promote to CW2. Good informational video but lots of gaps.

My recruiter assured me that the Marines would never look into my background for arrests from when I was a 14. I told him thats great because I was arrested and charged with a felony. I did great on the aptitude tests, chose my job and went home to prepare for a 4 year stint being a marine. When I arrived at the indoctrination center 2 weeks later just as I'm checking in I'm told "Sorry sir, but you lied about your criminal past". I explained what the recruiter told me. The person from the indoctrination center said "well he shouldn't have told you that. So long!" LOL.

I went to basic in 1980. There was no going off post during basic. I think one time we got a two hour pass which meant you got to go buy some stuff at the PX and get your ass back to the barracks.

Alright. My daughter is in high school. She skipped a grade and is in all AP classes. She very much wants to work in cyber/AI technology with relation to criminal investigations (international, federal or state) as a civilian. HOWEVER, she was diagnosed at 11years old with autism spectrum disorder and issued an IEP. From the age of 11-15 she worked in school under an IEP until her sophomore year of school when the school itself said she no longer needed it. She has no significant symptoms of Autism and it is virtually undetectable to anyone who isn’t trained to spot the nuance of her personality. But it is on paper, it’s official, there was a ASD diagnosis and a IEP. She will graduate at 17 and wants to join the military but I don’t think they will accept her. I am just wanting to manage expectations. Would a waiver even work?

They just yell at you. You’d be amazed what kind of weakness it took to actually get sent home even 20 years ago. I suppose that if you just layed there and didn’t squirm and try when they yell at you then MAYBE they’d bounce you out for refusal to train, but honestly if you’ve got the guts to flat out refuse to train with all the pressure they put on you, then you have the guts to pass… or you’re autistic.
