Hey, I got a 65 in the ASVAB but I'm currently in the reserves because I'm limited to certain jobs because I dont have my citizenship yet. I was told that once I get my citizenship I can re-enlist as an Active duty and go 25B, is that actually possible? I'm good at computers and I know how to code.

Talking about having a bad situation before going to basic is a big fear I have. I'm enlisted in the national guard and the night before a drill i had my mother screaming at me calling me worthless and ripping me apart. The next day going to drill while taking the OPAT test I wasnt in a good mental state and out of nowhere wanted to quit because I didnt feel like I deserved to be there. I didnt feel proud of the choice I made. I didnt quit, a SGT I knew from the recruitment office pulled me aside and helped me. I leave the 28th of this month and I'm hoping nothing like that happens again. Out of experience I can agree it's extremely important.

Austin Boyum Good luck. You're going to need to be in a good emotional state just for reception alone, which will arguably be one of the worst weeks of your life.

Obviously I'm a year late, but hot damn did I feel that. My first rsp drill is this Saturday and I'm kinda nervous. Mostly because I believe I've annoyed my drill Sgt with all my questions and concerns. But I have a feelings it's going to feel good to be around people who are looking forward with similar mindsets. If anyone ever sees this, any words of wisdom?

@@autumnwood9435 Dang, I saw this comment a full two years later ☠️ how’d it go? Where’d you get shipped too for BCT? Any advice?
@autumnwood9435
@autumnwood9435 Жыл бұрын
@queenodeath definitely have words of wisdom. I was shipped to Fort Sill, Oklahoma. One of the most important things that is said so much but not taken as seriously, is basic training is one giant mental game. You're gonna meet people you'll never want to see again, and those you do for life. The trials you go through can be tough as hell, and the drill sergeants don't help. But, if you strengthen your mental state and prioritize your health, getting through the steps of each day will become less of a hassle. Everyone is going to get yelled at, everyone will get annoyed. But if you put yourself up there on a mature level and maintain a healthy point of view of your situation and surroundings, you're going to be ready for anything thrown at you. For rsp it's pretty much the same thing. They are training you to be a bit ahead of the game, to predict what may come in bct. They'll be hard on you but you'll see why when you compare rsp and bct. Some easy to remember tips. Always lock your locker (even if you see other people not locking them), move with a purpose (walk fast/run), don't take what the drill sergeants say to heart. They say that to all their trainees, remember that they also want to go home, and they'll still be there for new trainees once you graduate, always have water on you, don't get involved with others that you know will bring you down, crying is ok and healthy, always wear a new pair of socks cause I've seen blisters get as big as fists on my battles feet cause they wouldn't change their socks. Finally, make sure to save yourself time (if possible) at the end of the day to breathe and comfort yourself. Tell yourself you're doing just fine, pat yourself on the back, remember to be nice to yourself, because you're doing so much and trucking through with your head high. There are gonna be some hella tough days, but as long as you don't become your own enemy, you're gonna make it with your other battles to that graduation day 👐🏻

Here’s what worked for me at Ft. Jackson. #1 - Get in decent shape. From what I saw PT was the biggest reason trainees got recycled. #2 - You’re better off of the Drill Sergeants don’t know your name. I payed low and did what I needed to do. I never got messed with by the DS. #3 - most important, don’t count the days, make the days count. Basic will fly by if you stay focused and motivated. Jackson was a piece of cake.

Just another person on KZbin You'll be getting there when it's colder. Try not to go crazy in reception because among other things the drill sergeants will keep you outside in the cold for hours in formation at a time just to play mind games with you. You will see a drill sergeant come out, everybody will go "AT EASE!" Then the drill sergeant will look at everybody;............ who's hoping that the drill sergeant will finally take them somewhere so they won't have to be standing around in the cold anymore....... only for that drill sergeant to turn around and go back inside and leave everyone out in the cold for about another hour. I'm not exaggerating. Good luck and please don't be scared to ask anything you can think of.

To everyone going to basic from someone in AIT right now: Do pushups, don’t half ass them either. Go until your arms are parallel, if you’re tall and have long arms you’ve really gotta go low and it sucks. Do sit ups, for whatever reason people always seem to forget the technique for sit-ups when it’s the actual test, and I’ve seen more people fail for sit-ups then anything else. Run because you’ll do a lot.

Hey Matt, Thanks for the video. I leave for Ft. Jackson in Jan. Just out of curiosity, how to breaks work in basic? Not like lunch breaks and stuff, but they have to know that you’ll need to use the bathroom right? How do you ask to use the bathroom in basic? 😂 Serious question but kinda childish. Thanks Matt!

Another good tip is not to call anyone by their rank. It’s basic, so for your DS it’s only yes Drill Sergeant, no Drill Sergeant, moving Drill Sergeant. Any other rank I remember talking to in basic is only when talking to First Sergeant and Sergeant Major at times. And if you are a 11B like I was, enjoy 30th AG! 🤣🤣 that was the worse part of basic!

Hey Matt I’m 16 and I’ve talked to many recruiters of all branches to the military and I’ve decided to join the army this summer after my junior year. I scored a 74 on the AFQT given to us at school and the army recruiters are really trying to convince me to sign as soon as I turn 17. I can max out the push-ups, do well in the running, and decent on the sit-ups but I was wondering if you know whether or not bicep tendinitis might disqualify me (I can’t find anything online so I’m assuming no) and if it’s a good idea for me to enlist?
@eddiemercado2671
@eddiemercado2671 4 жыл бұрын
Angel Aesthetics if it’s truly tendinitis then it should be able to heal on its own. Rest the arm until it no longer hurts then wait another week before doing any upper body exercises. Have someone check your form because it could be the main reason for your injury in the first place. Switch up certain exercises and don’t get stagnant. You have plenty of time to fix the problem but in this case you’re not a hero if you “play through the pain” you need to take the smart approach and take it one day at a time and you’ll be uniform soon enough.

2:28 physical fitness first, absolutely. Have to disagree on the strengthntraining: it should be the main goal of your fitness program. Athletic strength training is not, repeat, NOT "body building." Studies of combat deployments show that personnel in AOR seek to improve their strength as a priority. There's youtubes by Army PT trainers: they will set you straight. Good points on building core strength. Aerobic is good but metabolic stamina is far more i,portant IMO. Good points on basic military knowledge for your branch. Don't get married before basic ...

Question: what is bad about enlisting as an E1? Are you treated differently or is it just easier to get promoted?
@macburger5026
@macburger5026 4 жыл бұрын
Aidan Mento It doesn't matter whether you come in as an E1 or even an E4 (I came in as an E3 myself) because everyone will get treated like crap in initial entry training (basic and AIT). You will automatically get promoted to E2 like six months I believe (again I came in as E3 so I don't really know for sure) unless you get flagged for getting an article 15 or failing a PT test (after AIT) or some other kind of trouble
@aidanmento

@macburger5026 4 жыл бұрын
@@aidanmento Most likely, you'll make E4 about the same time as the E2's and E3's who came into the same basic as you (18-24 months). When you get to your unit and you're an E2, if someone new comes to your unit who is an E3 who came into basic as an E3, you will most likely make E4 a few months before they do because you've been in the army for longer.
