Addressing the cooling on our Vortech Supercharged Project 90 Fox Body - Contour Fans

Great video. I bought the LMR fan bracket kit for my fox body, Mustang. It was totally useless as the material at the top and bottom of the radiator was very thin nowhere to attach. It's manufactured by "Northern". An Ebay seller. The 2 core radiator was only $175. It's a nice radiator. The fins all around were not bent anywhere, unlike some aluminum radiators I have purchased. I have another project that I decided to use the Contour fan on since I was having clearance issues with the new serpentine drive setup. This is a 65 Ford F100 with a 429. The original copper brass radiator was only an inch and a half inches from the waterpump snout. I bought a Champion aluminum radiator and gained a full inch. I had to remove the webbing between the two fans and it does fit. I have to remove the fan to have access to the belt tensioner. I had to trim the edges of the shroud as it is not square. I got a Dakota Digital fan controller from LMR and I'll be wiring it up this week.

Hey Malcom is there a way to have the Microsquirt turn on the cooling fan when the ac turns on? I currently have my MS commanding the cooling fans but i havent figured out how tohave them come on when the ac is turned on. Any help would be appreciate it. I Love the content!! Keep it coming!

No the easiest way around it so to take a trigger from the AC system to a relay which turns on the fans. Since we're using a Fusion fan speed controller we tapped into the AC to feed a signal to the Arduino so it knows AC is on and it can command the fans accordingly. Thats amazing success 🎉! I have these on my turbo 347 with the 3G alternator. How much of a temp difference would I see by moving the coolant sensor to the lower rad hose as opposed to the heater hose location ?

The temp sensor in the coolant hose is for the ECU. I would not move that one as it's important to read correct engine temps at all times for the ECU. The only temp sensors I put in the lower radiator hose are for fan triggers as all they care about is the coolant hot enough to warrant the fan running?

I buy the majority of my Foxbody parts from LMR!! I'm still waiting to decide what fan I'll need. 12 rib Procharger Renegade setup. Alot of knowledge to be learned. How long have you been on KZbin??what standalone are you using??

About a year. The 90 fox is on a microsquirt ECU. The 92 is stock ECU with quarter horse programmer. The 03 Cobras are on MS3Pro ECUs.

Where did you get the tubular rad support??

It's a chromoly setup from Motion Raceworks. I have a few videos showing more details on it if you're interested as we installed one on this 90 supercharged project car as well as the 92 fox.

Yes I see no reason it wouldn't. The dimensions are very similar. I've typically done Mark VIII fans on 03/04 Cobras and plan to do another one and make a video on that process. That wil be coming soon. The nice thing with the Contour fans is you can by brand new replicas where as the Mark VIII fan has to be sourced from a salvage yard.

Agreed buying new is one of the bigger advantages as well as cost. I paid more for a 20 something year old Mark VIII fan than a brand new Contour re pop. Granted the Mark VIII does out flow the Contour setup a little.

@@MalcolmV8! Thanks for the quick reply Malcolm. I’ve been trying to trouble shoot for almost a year now lol. I have an upgraded alternator. I heard about the amp spike of the contour fans so I decided to do 75A relays. I’m controlling it with a Dakota digital controller too. Usually just one fan is enough to cool it down at idle but once that second one turns on the car dies on me. I have my idle at like 1000 just so it doesn’t turn off on me :|

@@itsmetiqui1136 Does your controller turn the fan on slowly and then ramp it up to speed? If so that would eliminate all the issues right there. The other thing to be aware of is fan wash across the MAF sensor. If you have an open element filter in the engine bay and your car is MAF based air blowing on it from the fan(s) will disrupt the MAF sensor and do all kinds of things including stalling the motor and having the RPMs surge etc. You can use some cardboard to build a make shift block around the air filter just to test idle when the fans kick on.
