At 42.15 you would do yourself a great favour buying a swivel and tilt vice...... but this is more fun 😉👍

I am just making 4 clamps for the new 100mm Arc eurotrade accu lock vice , which i will be posting soon. Waiting for tee nuts & bolts. Great job as usual Ade. Keep up the good work. Strange that you make the video & then when editing realise all the things that are not right. I have done a few & then seen things i never saw when doing it.

Ade I found Gloucester tooling does er32 collets up to 25mm, but they are not cheap at £20 a piece, They do seem pretty concentric though. I bought some as I needed to work on 25mm bar stock in the lathe from either end. You are a man of many vices :). Your new vice I have one of those as well and after I had made the clamps I though why didn't I use a cam lock to lock the vice to the table. I might yet try that.

Really neat job Ade. That fly cutter was working really nicely. I might have to make one to save on milling cutters. I don't think you allowed for backlash after touching off with the wobble pin? Maybe you are lucky if there is minimal backlash. (No big deal anyway on this type of job). I know you are well aware of that.
@ade63dug4 жыл бұрын
Hi Les, yes minimal and yes ok for this , Cheers Ade.

They look very good. Now if you will forgive me sounding like a safety ninny, I have concerns about that 3 pin adapter that is going to get smothered in small sharp chips just waiting to cause annoyance. 😭

@@ade63dug I know how chips get everywhere, even behind the column where you would think there was no chance. A horizontal surface is a magnet for all chips and as soon as I saw it I though oh oh.
@eyuptony4 жыл бұрын
I saw that as well but you have to make way for progress. These sockets were there before the milling machine was positioned in it's current place. I'm sure Ade noticed this AFTER the video went LIVE. With so much going on things get missed. That's what makes the video content interesting.
@chrisstephens66734 жыл бұрын
@@eyuptony I have no doubt he would have noticed but it is all too easy to get carried away with new toys, I know I have been guilty of that in my impetuous youth, mine that was a long time ago now.😭😭😭

Oh Ade , 23:00, no backlash?, Lol, I know it doesn't matter for this job , but it might be handy to know for future projects before you install the DRO. PS, really enjoying the installation process. Best wishes, Mal.
@ade63dug4 жыл бұрын
Yes , i know , however at present the saddle has next to nothing in it , the table had a few thou to start but is better now i have adjusted the leadnut just a tad, there is a fine line between minimal backlash and tightness of the leadnut , i think i will leave it for a bit to settle in through use . on this job it was fine at the amounts i had . Cheers Ade.

The video makes me look a lot closer to it than i am , been milling for 40 years , never been bitten yet , certainly the fly cutter is a dangerous beast if you were to get to close, Cheers Ade.
@matspatpc4 жыл бұрын
I'm fairly sure the "start slow, wind up speed" is simply to avoid someone putting some tool that vibrates a lot into the machine, and it suddently starting to walk sideways or shake itself to bits. "Avoid lawsuit text", rather than some genuine technical reason.

Is it an optical thing or is the table rising and falling as you turn the horizontal hand wheel? As I watch the wood in the upper right corner as a stationary point the table seems top rise and fall. Are the gibs tight?
@ade63dug4 жыл бұрын
the shed has a wood floor and i am stood close to the tripod , i think it is the floor flex as my weight shifts turning the handle , the gibs are fine . interesting observation though , Cheers Ade.

Really interesting. I have similiar problems using the fine tuning of the Z axle. The coulumn "comes falling down" in steps unless I constantly use my left hand applying some down preassure on the head. Locking is of course mandatory.
@EDesigns_FL4 жыл бұрын
If your mill has nylon gears driving the spindle, fly cutters may not be a good fit. I got tired of replacing the nylon gears in my mill and replaced them with metal, and I also stopped using fly cutters. It's been trouble free ever since. Small face mills and carbide end mills tend to work much better in these little mills.

Hello Ade, as someone who pretends to be a master machinist on the internet (not so much in real life) - I was wondering right at the start, you had the parts clamped into the left side of the vice, without a spacer on the right to keep the vice jaws more or less parallel. Was I correct, and is this a big deal? Lovely to see you making chips on the little beast. I really appreciate your videos.
@ade63dug4 жыл бұрын
Hi Richard . A very good question , the usual philosophy is that this is not ideal and rightly so , however, this vice and i have been mates for 25 years and it works and clamps as well as new , even with and imbalance offset to the clampscrew , it is and always was totally reliable for the practice , i guess the answer is that it is not good method , but , due to its narrow width and quality at the outset it is quite safe and fine for my purposes , Cheers Ade.

Your sweater sleeve looks awfully close to the flycutter !
@richardmeyer4184 жыл бұрын
I was thinking that as well, but I realised that with the satate it was in, if it got caught it's just unravel the sweater, leaving Ade nude from the waist up rather than suck him in and dismember him .... or maybe the perspective was deceptive, or ....
