Just loved driving the Bombers when I was a bus driver at Transitplus, especially the 820 route.

The earlier the Ecomat, the better they sound. Sta Adelaide were early takers of the box. Nothing like this in Sydney. I wish the bus had a livery.

We assume Adelaide opted for this first generation of ZF Ecomat for the B58/B10Ms because the previous fleet of 307 B59s came with ZF transmissions, although they had an earlier 2 speed model. This was fortunate, as it's such a wildly tuneful transmission with a different whine for each gear. We even ended up with a large fleet of SL200s with the same screaming transmissions around the same time, which was otherwise uncommon around the world compared to units with Voith or Renk transmissions. 2405 is special because it was the very last of the Bombers in service. It's preserved in 'as withdrawn' condition, circa 2006. The Bombers were repainted white or into the red and blue 'speed stripes' livery in the 90s, but after 2000 a new yellow, red and blue livery came about and it obviously wasn't worth repainting all these buses considering they had limited time left in service; which is why 2405 and others soldiered on like big white howling ghosts I'm 2405's owner. Hope you enjoy seeing and hearing it :)

@@hd8437 do the second livery with the stripes. Plain white is not worth preserving. KST in Sydney got some and sadly ran them into the ground. I got to record one in high definition sound whilst driving my car next to it. I thought the B10M mark 2 sounded amazing. This was another level again. The mark IV from the 1990s is a disgrace. Toyota Camry of the bus world. EDIT why not leave it in white? It's the ultimate concourse condition!

I like these old buses, they often sound and look quite good. Much more character than the 'same ol same ol' modern buses. I vaguely remember riding one of these older Volvos to high school here in NZ about 9 years ago, was slightly different though with no middle door, double headlights and much less healthy sounding engine😂. (old red & white Murphy's bus)

Sounds exactly like the "M" 1995/6 reg buses (M723VET) we had in South Yorkshire England, although the majority carried Voith gearboxes

Glad you enjoyed 2405! It doesn't get out a lot these days with the price of diesel lately. These buses were like constant background figures, screaming away in the distance somewhere through my childhood down south. Thanks for this awesome capture, there's quite a few videos of 2405 on KZbin to quench your Bomber thirst 👌👍 -Hayden

I loved them. You could literally hear them screaming around at night in Hackam and around Noarlunga. Specially, when it was those hot still nights in summer you can hear them in the distance. When you were waiting at the bus stop on a quiet night, you knew it was coming because of that squealing ZF. It was a great ride loved it. I hadn’t been on one for many years.

That looks an awful lot alike Budd passenger cars in the opening scene.
