THANK YOU!!!! Some Nigerians, in NIGERIA cannot speak any NIGERIAN LANGUAGE!! I am a British born Igbo woman. I speak Igbo and a little Yoruba. Yet, I was shocked when I went to Nigeria in January and found that my cousin's children do not speak Igbo!! They live in Lagos and are not even taught Yoruba in their expensive private school!!! Our priority seems to be to teach our children foreign languages at the expense of our own!!

@waskyhenry31326 жыл бұрын
Amando , It's the price you pay when you're defeated/conquered/colonized or whatever you want to call it. It takes a grassroots effort to overcome that condition. It will not be easy. First thing is to accept that the condition exists, and then device measures for counter attack. Kudos for your own effort and success story.
@trexgaming13956 жыл бұрын
Nne, thanks for your observations, it is so annoying & lack of confidence in one's culture to teach his or her kids a foreign language but fail to teach the kids their own native language and they are so bold about it, that's ignorance. My nephews and nieces that grew up in Benin city can't speak igbo and I always question my sister why she didn't endeavor to teach her kids how to speak their native language
@daramolasamuel83476 жыл бұрын
What has to do in Nigeria poverty for now, Nigerian need to progress believe me Omoyele Sowore can speak Yoruba very well just because he come from ondo state her own speaking Yoruba is quite different in a little bit.
@joannechinkers2546 жыл бұрын
Amanda Milo I do not disagree. I train teachers, and have often said that our kids would learn so much more quickly in their native tongue. However, Nigeria chose English rather than one of their own language as their official tongue, so it has become the language of Education. Some of our teachers are not fluent in the regional language because it is not their own. Our kids speak primarily Yoruba but several speak either Hausa or Nupe. Without a common language, what can we do but use English? I think that, while they should be fluent in their own language and the major language of their area, the way things are, learning English at an early age will help them to be successful in school.
