Given the extra layer of components and complexity in a HEUI system vs a common rail system, I have always wondered why Cat and Ford went with the HEUI for so long.
@keith28603 жыл бұрын
At the time heui was the best option for high pressure electronic fuel injection. Of course until common rail became standard. It’s very capable, as oil pressurized over the lower viscosity fuel easily creates desired injection pressure.
@ronunderwood57713 жыл бұрын
Keith Also back in the mid 90's when the HEUI system came out emissions weren't as tight. HEUI could provide the needed pressure. Standards got tighter requiring much higher pressures at the injector tip for greater fuel atomization. Common rail systems have tip pressures as high as 30,000psi. Common rail is more expensive, tolerances are way tighter to get the needed pressures.
@Hitman-ds1ei3 жыл бұрын
Decades ago we found oil type and condition was the biggest factor in longevity and reliability with HUI motors, to the point 1.we ran remote oil system extra volume (ROS) 2. We ran extra bypass oil filters ( 7micron) 3.we ran centrifugal oil filtration ( spinner filter) 4.And a 4micron in line filter to HUI pump supply oil circuit. This gave good oil pump life, good viscosity longevity and exceptional HUI pump and solenoid valve life. This was an evolution in a large fleet addressing reliability issues thru failure analysis and trial and error over time but any one can do these upgrades quite easily and effectively if you have a HUI system, the only issue we saw was oil migration into injector harness but this seemed to become less of and issue as we removed more carbon from oil with filtration upgrades , oil seemed to be less conductive and didn't affect injector operation even though slight leakage from passthru plug still present
@goodmanboattransport34413 жыл бұрын
At the time of its development, it was the most technologically advanced Diesel fuel injection system that had ever been invented, quite a modern marvel to have an electronically controlled instead of mechanically controlled system. On top of that, you could change the power level at the click of a knob, or a reflash without changing any of the injection hardware. Ask the 12 valve guys about that one.
@Thegoose953 жыл бұрын
Ford never used HEUI themselves, they were using Navistar engines.

If you don’t like spraying starting fluid directly into the intake, if you have a second person handy, I always like to grab a shop rag and put a little gasoline on it and pop one of the air to air boots off and while your buddy is turning the key trying to start it, you’re spreading the rag right across the air to air. I personally just like doing that better than starting fluid, but I have used starting fluid many times lol. Great video
@goodmanboattransport34413 жыл бұрын
Gasoline has more resistance to Detonation under heat and pressure, called octane, where starting fluid is extremely volatile under heat and pressure, so I don't understand how Gasoline is going to start a cold engine better than starting fluid or diesel fuel for that matter.
@tywinters94623 жыл бұрын
@@goodmanboattransport3441 they don’t need much. A little bump of gasoline vapors and it’ll come to life. I’ve never locked a motor up with that technique. I’ve locked them up with ether though several times.
@goodmanboattransport34413 жыл бұрын
@@tywinters9462 Great care is required using ether, it doesn't take much and never let the glow plugs heat up, that's a recipe to blow up the intake on a diesel engine. I've found cranking until you get some smoke, then a quick 1/4 second shot gives that little bit of fire to light the cylinders

Fastest way to check ICP issues is dead heading the pump with a gauge. Or popping the valve cover off and physically checking for excessive oil leakage around injector seals while cranking or running.
@mikekopisz12273 жыл бұрын
I Air check for O-ring leaks,without pulling the cover...disconnect the HPOP supply,I use a fitting that taps right into the port...air it up to around 120-140psi ....then,take a plastic bag and wrap it around the breather tube and see if the bag expands,from the leaking,compressed air @ the injectors...as the compressed air will fill the block with pressure and vent out through the vent tube

@@yeahok115sure You can drive a C15 through California if it’s registered out of state. However you can’t pickup and deliver a short load within the state of course. There’s no way they can stop trucks that are emissions compliant for the model year they were manufactured. Make sure it doesn’t blow smoke, keep the big mufflers on, and regularly clean the pipes, you’re good. They can only push around and bully trucks that are registered in CA, actually all those trucks are deleted out of their system so even if you tried to add a filter or make your truck compliant you legally can’t anymore. Anyways if the DOT sees your truck is super clean, everything is in compliance, and you don’t have tons of chrome, lights, and crap all over it they’ll leave you alone with your old engine. They know you’re moving important supplies to keep their state functioning. It’s all they got left. If more truckers stop going to CA that state would most certainly collapse.
