Another great video. Thanks! I know you mentioned to make sure and check that push-rods are straight, since at this point, we have them in our hands anyway. Which of course is a very good practice, but how do you check them closely, other than a visual? We keep a clear pane of glass here in one of the tool boxes. When we are ready to check a push-rod, we grab the glass piece, give it a quick cleaning, and apply a little puddle of new oil onto it. Then we lay the push-rod onto the oily spot on the glass, and roll it around. While looking up underneath at its contact pattern against the glass. This shows us even the most minor of bends. I also see that this engine is pretty dirty. I personally would spend more energy than I'd like, worrying about some clump of dirt getting into the engine during this repair. Our practice here is to power wash off the engine with soap and hot water, before such a repair. Is this an option for you guys in the shop, and then just include that charge to the customer? We don't always do all of our own work here, and sometimes take one of the Trucks to another shop for some work. When this is the case, and we have a very nice power washer here, we always give the engine, or transmission, a good washing before we bring it in. It gives me peace of mind! : - )

Steve Kluver We have pressure wash bay, but it is broken half the time. Believe it or not I did wash the engine off quick before bringing it in the shop. This was a water truck so there was a thick layer of dirt over everything and that big air cleaner didn't allow me to get to the top of the engine very well. We usually just look at the pushrod, we roll them on a table sometimes, but haven't done the pane of glass trick. Sounds like a pretty good way of checking it though.

Adept Ape having 40yrs of experience as a diesel engine mechanic, I just take a handful of pushrods and toss them on the bench so they roll. Any rod that is even slightly bent will wobble, also of them I don't hear them ring ( loose ends/oil filled) I replace. Any hard nicks in a pushtube warrants replacement.

Hello. Your videos are great! I am trying to fix a few issues on my c10. It misses for a few seconds on start up and is over fueling at idle. It clears up when you run it down the road and idles clean for around 15 minutes then runs rich again until you run down the road. I was going to have all 6 injectors tested but when I pulled them out several had broken middle o rings. All lowers were carbon and deteriorating as you described. My question is could the broken o rings be causing this by themselves?? Tia.

9:05 WARNING!! Those electrical connections are VERY easy to over tighten and break the studs. Tighten them very lightly with a quarter drive ratchet. I mean Very lightly. I broke one off and had to swap the yellow part off another injector, which thankfully wasn't a hard task.

+Richard C Would like to do one, but we don't work on them a ton here. I've only ever done one of them to tell you the truth and that was a 3406B not a C. We do a lot more of the electronic engines out here.

Wouldn't that be HEUI? Fuel filled head at like 6, 8, 12 PSI and the electric injection type? Or does HEUI not have a 'piston pump' inside the injector when it comes up from the spring to suck up the fuel into it then it gets pushed down to inject? I think I somehow found a way to confuse myself, again. Or is there a difference between EUI and HEUI? Anyways, Excellent video!

Heui uses pressurized engine oil to fire the injector when the solenoid on top moves. These are meui as they use mechanical force to fire the injector and the fuel is metered electronically.

The injectors are harder to do. I have since started putting the rockers on with the injector pushrods in, then putting the valve pushrods after.

@Adept Ape I can see why, thank God tho cause I was going to take it all apart in the morning thinking maybe I didn't have the injectors fully seated, even after torqued. They do stick up about 1/16 of an inch above the head surface.. alls good now! I will loosen rockers and install the pushrods re torque and good to go! I really enjoy your vids, Thank you!! Jax
