I remember posting my results for the 13th Black Crusade back in the day. I was an Emperor's Children player at the time and the state of the EC forums was a unanimous decision to do what we do best...ignore the actual battleplan and find a warzone to goon to death. I remember Inquisitor still being a thing at the time, especially important because of how closely tied it was to the then very new Eisenhorn books...and how the Cadian Pylons are basically all his fault. This was one of the last big hurrah's for converting miniatures as something GW actually promoted and encouraged. The great rift changed a great deal in the 40k setting but also marked a big change in the hobby and how GW approached 40k as a game...there's lots of change both good and bad from my grognards perspective.

Kirioth and Bricky talking about old balance in third edition brings me back. One of the only games I ever really played was like 750 points eldar vs 750 points space marines. I always got crushed, I only had hand me down Eldar stuff really, and I just could not deal with my friend's more elite space marine set up. We're playing a game, and he's really excited to just drop in his new terminators. I'm cringing as I know my howling banshees are going to get crushed by these guys. He's bragging about deep strike and how cool it is, pantomiming them warping in right in front of my charging banshees... Back then, you rolled scatter dice for people arriving via deep strike. And this time, he rolled snake eyes. Lost to the warp. The terminators never arrived. And in such a small point game... that's like a quarter or a third of his army just suddenly missing. Queue me and my brother and other people hanging out going nuts as my banshees proceed to carve up his devastator squad. I think that's the only game I ever won, but it still makes me grin like a fool.

They did a similar thing for Warhammer Fantasy, where games dictated the narrative. Except GW threw a hissy fit when Chaos wasn't winning (cause GW didn't update their rules for that edition) and then proceeded to fudge the numbers and make it look like Chaos was winning, even though they were getting bodied by everyone. It's where the "Grimgor Ironhide, the biggest Fantasy Ork, snuck up behind Archaon the Everchosen (fantasy Abaddon) and kicked him in the balls right before Archaon won" meme came from.

Man I remember this campaign. Two of my favorite memories were GW having written Battle Fleet Cadia as hopelessly out matched by the Black Fleet, so when the Cadian system basically got hard stomped by the navy...GW wrote it as BF Cadia taking Chaos style raiding tactics to an absurd degree and being significantly better at it than Chaos itself. The second was that a bunch of Guard players compiled a list of everyone's regiment name and number. It was a huge list of names with the occasional bit of fluff someone would write for their army. I wonder if anyone still has a copy of it somewhere.

There was no actual way to prove the battle reports sent in so people would flood GW with fake battle reports to help their chosen faction in every global event (this is also why the given numbers of players is so big). Me and my mates took part in this. I was (am) a shovel boy, AJ was (standard) Space wolves, DB was CSM and Goatie was eldar, who wound up fighting CSM. I gave my artillery section to KT who didn’t have an army. 5,000 points on each side on an 8x16 foot table we set up in DB’s lounge to play on over a long weekend. AJ’s rhino of baby wolves was blown to pieces in the first round leaving only 3 scouts boys. KT caught a gang of eldar on foot in the open with three basilisks which caused a great argument over how artillery worked, so with only one hit from them I hit him with all three of my mortars, which wiped them out. The whole game I only moved three units - my Sentinel squad - as bait to get troops in range of 40 guard and 20 catachans. That worked for a whole one turn before my boys were wiped and whittled down to four guards, three commissars and the mortars. It was great fun and I’d love to do something like that again. All told we sent our results in which was kind of redundant as it ended in a draw, but it was a perfect weekend with the boys!

I will say the bit with Celestine dueling Abby was great.

I kinda hope there might be an episode in the future about the Mandrakes or at least include them into an episode about more Xenos races or more Drukhari stuff...if Adeptus Ridiculous didn't already cover Mandrakes I mean.

I quit BFG during that campaign. Worked a Tyrant and a Dominator point blank against a Chaos battle squadron. With lock-on and modifiers, I had several dozen dice to roll. First round my highest roll was one 4. On my reroll I switched ALL my dice and still only topped out with a single 3. I stood up and went home.

I love Kirioth’s episodes. Things just get so chaotic and cursed. It’s just fantastic.

I was there, when Eldrad - moments prior to the Slaanesh shenaningans - beat Failbaddon The Armless in CQC within an inch of his life, needing a Chaos-Deus ex machina to not get erased. Kirioth forgot to mention that, sus. You can still find the actual fluff blurp easily, if you didn't get that codex

That campaign was incredible ! At a time when internet was not everywhere, no smartphones, no KZbin... I was the only one to have an access for my club and friends. The website was futuristic with flash animations. You should also reports your games to your local GW. You could use Warhammer 40000 Apocalypse rules too for bigger battles ! It was the last World Campaign after "The 3rd War for Armageddon" and the fantasy battle "Campaign of Albion"

As someone who was around at the time, the problem in the games was similar to that of what GW did with End Times for Fantasy, forces of order were winning even the ground battles but GW wanted to make the narrative push that chaos won. So at the time they tossed out many games and ignored the results of the posted games to turn it into the "stalemate" which persisted. They did the same thing to an even worse degree when deciding the fate of Fantasy and Order absolutely wiped the floor with Chaos, but GW wanted the narrative to be for Chaos to destroy the world so they could make more appealing models, so they completely ignored the results instead of fudging the numbers. Kirioth mentioned it a bit that no matter what people were going to be upset especially if GW had a planned narrative push, and thats exactly what happened. This is why relying on the community for narrative changes is bad many times because GW writers absolutely love Chaos and have repeatedly stated that no matter the setting their victory is inevitable, which often conflicts with their own lore and events such as this.

Lead the Holy Order of Sisters of Battle led by Canoness Oliva against the vile forces of the Tyranids. I remember organizing in Yahoo Group (lost to time in 2020) and all Sisters of Battles players fought the Tyranid players on a single planet. It was deemed at the time that the Tyranids were going to wipe the floor with us, but we held on and forced a draw.

This is 10 months late but yeah we use a weird mix of Imperial and Metric in the UK. So we invented Imperial and used it for a couple of hundred years. In recent decades we realised metric is just better and officially we use Metric. But... I mean I'm in my 30s. I grew up with parents that grew up with Imperial. My grandmother ordered her milk in pints and the weighing scales in the bathroom are measured in stone. I weigh food by grams and kilograms but myself in stone. I talk about height of people in feet and inches but of anything else in metres. We order beer by the pint but measure other liquids by ml. I would describe the distance to somewhere I'd walk or drive in miles but measure in kilometres. Slowly the country shifts toward Metric but it will take multiple generations for imperial measurements to phase out.

Ngl I find it funny that there’s a 13th company for blood ravens. Cause typically 100 people per company is “small” but there’s the whole “A chapter can’t be more than 1,000” lore. So by that implication it’d be less than 100 blood ravens fighting on cadia. Which is absolutely bonkers

Battletech does this for big plot moments with players. It's actually how a specific type of LRM ammo got banned because it was INSANELY too good and abused by players in it's original form.

The way gw did that "let the players decide" reminds me of the time DC comics let the readers choose to save Robin or let him die. Which is pretty cool imo

I am in love with the idea of giving your adversary a piece of a model for exceptional performance. Its a little trophy that has a great story behind it that you will always remember. Its incredibly sportsman like and such a cool way to demonstrate respect amongst players.

My friend and i have a friendly rivalry since he plays emperor's children and i play iron hands. I had a squad of 5 infiltrators that took out a squad of 10 noise marines and then some regular legionaries without taking any casualties. I got a spare chaos space marine helmet and put it on one of their bases and painted it as an emperor's children. My friend makes it his goal to kill that unit if possible
