One of my favourite bands, Steve Marriott is in my humble (pie) opinion the greatest UK vocalist. Afterglow is a great Small Faces track

Great reaction, Harri, mate. Thanks! Marriott, Arnold and the fire of the band ... this was a hard-driving experiment in Psychedelic Rock. Your comment about Steve's ability to change his delivery from a gentle mellow to a manic passionate was particularly spot on, and P.P.'s backup vocal is crisply complementary. Arnold was indeed romantically involved with Marriott around this time in 1967; and sang backup on the band's smash Itchykoo Park release. Previously she had gotten her start as one of Ike and Tina Turner's Ikettes before going solo. Cheers, Harri!

Thank you Harri for featuring this brilliant band, fronted by the fabulous Steve Marriott. Tin Soldier & Itchicoo Park are both classics, but I wish some reactors would feature some of their other hits. I particularly love their early R&B styled hits with Steve channeling James Brown, Wilson Pickett and Otis redding, but always making the cover his own. "You Need Lovin", "Whatcha Gonna Do About it", "All or Nothing" & "You've Really Got a Hold on Me" are all excellent examples. Also, how about some Humble Pie? Like blues? my favorite HP song is "I Wonder" Thank you...

A legendary song among British fans and musicians, it was voted by Mojo magazine's readers as the 10th best single of all time. It was also the last song ever played live by the original line-up of the band, on 8 March 1969 at Springfield Ballroom (now demolished and replaced by the football stand of Springfield Stadium) in Jersey. BTW, P.P. Arnold, a native of Los Angeles, came to Britain as an Ikette in Ike & Tina Turner's Revue, launching a very successful solo career in the late 60s and early 70s across the pond. Thanks J.K. and Harri.

She was with a group called the "blackberries" maybe and did back up for a great grey whistle performance of Humble Pie doing Black Coffee. It sure looked like there were sparks between her and Steve on that performance and I did hear once that they she and Steve were hooked up for awhile. Pure hearsay but would not surprise. Can't believe you do not know that Black Coffee performance, pretty popular and great but I am a huge humble pie & Marriott fan

She was never in the blackberries, that was Venetta Fields, Sherlie Matthews & Clydie King. She was a member of the Ikettes in the Ike & Tina turner revue when she first came to the uK and decided to stay and go solo. And yes she and Marriott were briefly involved. Her first big hit was "First Cut Is The Deepest" written by Cat Stevens. Her backing band featured Keith Emerson and went on to record as "The Nice."

Thx for the reaction @HarriBest. The video is of a real live performance, but the studio version of the song is being played on top. The live performance video/audio pops up on YT now and again. The audio quality and the sound of the band is subpar for sure. Regardless, a great song.

Pretty sure Stevie and Pat Arnold had a thang goin on, around this time. Marriott wrote this song for Pat to record, but he loved it so much he kept it for the SF. He later gave Arnold (if you think you're) Groovy to record. This is all from memory so it comes with a non accuracy clause 😂

Small Faces is on the nose. Back then, a “Face” was a handsome lad with impeccable style. Small coz those dudes weren’t five feet tall. But, what power, energy, talent and soul in that small package. Love them Small Faces. Without Steve we wouldn’t have Rid Stewart, Robert Plant, Paul Weller and many others singing the way they do. Back then, everyone tried to emulate Steve.

When Andrew Loog Oldham started Immediate Records, he envisioned having a stable if performers who would all support and work with each other..PP was known at the time as the "Queen of Immediate" Also, she and Steve were lovers at the time this was recorded, but according to PP, Steve wrote Tin Soldier for Jenny Rylance - she was the love of his life, and future first wife.

The Small Faces were another great English band from the 60's. They had some great hits "Itchycoo Park", "Lazy Sunday", "All Or Nothing", "Whatcha Gonna Do About It" etc. In 1969 after lead singer/guitarist Steve Marriott left the group to form Humble Pie" & the remaining members of Small Faces were joined by Ronnie Wood (guitar) & Rod Stewart (lead vocals), both from the Jeff Beck Group, & the new line-up was renamed "Faces".
