Another one of the great 60's groups I grew up with. They started out as "The Young Rascals" but later were just known as "The Rascals". They were considered rock & blue-eyed soul. They had a lot of hits such as "I Ain't Gonna Eat Out My Heart Anymore", "You Better Run", "I've Been Lonely Too Long", "Good Lovin'", "Groovin'", "People Got To Be Free", "A Beautiful Morning", "A Girl Like You", "It's Wonderful" .

Every time I hear this song from 1967 when I was a boy, this should be in a romantic movie. I picture in my mind now Jenny Mc Carthy playing an accordion sitting on a short stone wall in Central Park in NYC and wearing a green beret, green plaid dress and skirt and smiling directly at the audience in the movie theater with the opening credits to the movie in an anthology of romantic movie for Valentine's Day.

This is a great song by a great band, Harri .. I was originally introduced to the song via David Cassidy's excellent cover .. Worth checking it out, as well as a few of his other hits .. He had a big teeny bopper following, thanks largely to his role in the Partridge Family TV series, but he was a very good and under-rated singer .. Try "Could It Be Forever", "Cherish", or some of the Partridge Family hits.

Here is the story behind the song: "How Can I Be Sure" was one of several songs inspired by group founder Felix Cavaliere's girlfriend Adrienne Becchuri, a Pelham (New York) high school student Cavaliere met in 1966 the year he turned 24: (Felix Cavaliere quote:) "I fell madly in love with this woman who actually turned out to be a muse...[R]eally the only reason she was in my life [was to] spark that kind of emotion and feeling that generates those types of songs." They remained a couple for a year, with Felix first celebrating her in the Rascals' hits "Groovin'" and "A Girl Like You", and then with the introspective "How Can I Be Sure" expressing doubts about the relationship - they had recently become engaged-, and despite the positive resolution of the song he said “I woke up one day and said: 'What the hell am I doing? I’m going out with a kid.'"

This is the sound of early Rascals. Not unlike the Moody Blues' first album, which still had some 50s-ishness about it. "Good lovin'" is a lot like Allman Brothers' "Revival" and both are celebration of the new spirit blossoming in the '60s. "Groovin'" and "It's a Beautiful Morning" are more representative as well as having a leading role in the new spirit, crowned by the advent of ubiquitous color TV, which screamed for more color. See if you don't also like the later work. Cheers!

Harri, I actually have thought about this, and I think it really should've been used in a movie ... something similar to what you would've heard in West Side Story, The Sound Off Music, etc. BTW, the orchestra you were referring to was the Danish National Concert Orchestra, as opposed to the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, who also has a very popular video floating around KZbin. In that one, they performed a PERFECT rendition of the title theme to the movie, The Good The Bad & The Ugly. It was stellar as well !!!
