This wasn’t a subject that was talked about when this song came out. It really shook up American society. She dragged the “unmentionable “ out into the light and threw it in people’s faces!

The groove, for me, captures the anger of the subject matter.

From Pat's 2nd album, " Crimes of Passion" from 1980, Pat co- wrote this song after reading articles on child abuse in The New York Times. Pat's raw vocals reflect the pained anguish beneath the children's sorrow. The build up to the outro, so intense, you really feel the pain of the lyrics. The latter half of the instrumention, when the tempo reves to double time, with Pat's vocals hitting high velocity, then the drums and guitars explode.OMG I'm with you Harri, any abuse of children is deplorable and sickening. Great reaction Handsome Harri ❤❤ Thanks Tim S. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada ❤❤🇨🇦🇨🇦

She ADDED TO this song after bassist Roger Capps brought it to her. Roger brought it then Pat and Neil brilliantly added the rockin’ bits.

She's classically trained, btw. Ahead of her time. Especially with this song. Her husband is the lead guitarist.

The music, the lyrics and the voice bring attention to this topic. I believe we can appreciate the groove and react. I think the proceeds of this song was always donated to charity... Best to you and yours.

I read that she donated the proceeds from this song to charity to help stop child abuse, don’t know if that’s true or not, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was true. Pat Benatar could rock out no doubt. This song both give me chills and makes me want to groove like you, and I think it’s good both ways. This is what she wanted, for people to take notice and that was one way to throw it out in their faces.

Roger Capps was their too tall bass player. Great musician! He wrote the core of the song and then Pat and Neil added the changes in tempo and all of the screamin’ guitar and rocking vocals! Classic!

She just went into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year….deservedly. Try the rocker…” Promises in the Dark.” This song you can tell she sings angry and her husband plays the guitar angry.

A great song with a powerful message, and Pat Benatar always sounds great. Listening back in the day on vinyl I always found it somewhat odd this song was immediately followed in the track listing by "Hit Me With Your Best Shot." I know that song was about something different, but the title still seemed odd placed right next to this one. Good reaction as always, HarriBest. PS: The guitar player is Neil Giraldo, Pat's husband to this day, and he's a shredder.

They stopped doing this song years ago. It was meant to call attention to child abuse. They felt that the song had run it’s course so they stopped playing it.
