One of the best songs ever written. And Dusty delivers it perfectly. Cmon man! A cocktail in hand in a lounge with a new love? No music today can elicit the feeling that adult standard music of the 60’s did back then.

This is one of the great British female singers from the 60's. She had such a beautiful unique voice & covered many genres (blue-eyed soul, pop ,ballads, country, jazz). She had a lot of hits such as "I Only Want To Be With You", "I'll Try Anything", "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me", "Wishin' & Hopin' ", "The Look Of Love", "The Windmills Of Your Mind", "Son Of A Preacher Man", "I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself" & many more.

Music written by the great Burt Bacharach with lyrics by Hal David. You should react to more of Burt Bacharach's songs. All are beautiful and sophisticated. This song was on "The Casino Royale" movie soundtrack and the songwriters were nominated for an Oscar. Others have covered it but I think this performance is the best. Thanks for reacting to it!

Hello Besties Hello Scunthorpe. Britain had more than its share of great female singers in the sixties. Shirley Bassey. Cilla Black, petula Clark ,Sandy Shaw. But Dusty is my favorite!!!!!! Incredible arrangement by Burt Bacharach. So jazzy. Ursula Andress and Peter Sellers Yes sellers rolling around on the round bed.while Dusty Dustified the crap out of this song.

This is Dusty at her most sultry & there's no match to Bacharach for musical talent and incredible arrangements. I've mentioned this b4 but I think you would get a kick out of her early folk hit (singing with her brother in The Springfields), "Silver Threads & Golden Needles". Another soulful hit of hers is "A Brand New Me". Aretha liked this song so much she had to cover it herself. My personal Dusty Springfield fave is a lesser-known hit; "What's It Gonna Be". It's a rocker!

You are probably referring to Stan Getz who recorded a jazz instrumental version sometime in ‘66 before Hal David added lyrics. Dusty then recorded it for the film Casino Royale, based on the same bossa nova arrangement by Getz. She’s truly a great singer.

this version is from the soundtrack of the first version of Casino Royale, produced & written by Burt Bacharach. He wanted everything on the record to be perfect. It is still iconic for audiophiles, for instance, when there is a snare drum, you can hear both the drum & the snare separately. The way I heard it, Dusty was recording her vocal to a prerecorded instrumental track as was her usual practice. Burt was asking for more takes, to be more sultry and passionate. He wasn't satisfied with what he was getting ( the session was at his house). So he had his then wife Angie Dickenson come in from sunbathing to watch the session. That apparently produced the desired response. Angie Dickenson in the mid sixties would have made any straight man or gay woman sultry and passionate. Dusty said the performance made her feel like she was onstage in her slip. (Can you imagine Madonna, Miley Cyrus or Cardi B for example feeling embarassed about being on stage in Lingerie - different times) So she rerecorded it in England with Ivor Raymonde and her usual orchestra and an almost identical arrangement. Not quite as hot but still a solid hit.

Ooohhh, man... The breathiness of that alto sax compliments her voice soooo well. No other instrument could have been used during that instrumental. ANY other instrument would have destroyed it. A suggestion of Stan Getz in there, somewhere.

At the time this was released Bossa Nova was all over the place, so much so that it became elevator music and I hated it. This song was the exception. It respected the elements of the genre, suited the song and was totally free of cheese. And of course it was Dusty at her most sultry. In later years I heard more of the original Brazilian musicians and Stan Getz's interaction with them and it became my goto summer music.
