Very, very cool, Harri! This song is on the soundtrack from. "The Harder They Fall" staring reggae singer Jimmy Cliff, who also sings several songs in the LP. Harder They Fall is one of my top 5 LPs I'll play 4 or 5 times a year. Every song on the LP should be reacted to. Toots was a Reggae GOAT.

This was amazing, there is so much incredible Reggae music out there, sadly not much gets played beyond Bob Marley, and the occasional Peter Tosh classic. Great choice!!

Toots Hibbert was an incredible entertainer. He had an incredible voice, which can be heard beautifully in 'bam bam'. I use to sing 'Just tell me' to my eldest when he was a baby and 10 years later he's still a big fan of toots. Would definitely recommend listening to them

I Love Toots and the Maytals... I'm gutted that I'll never hear Toots Hibbert's live voice anymore, he was such a lovely and beautiful man.

He really was! Everybody has heard of Bob Marley but Toots has always been my favourite. Like the man in the video says here his energy was amazing on stage. I have seen loads of bands in my time but seeing Toots on stage never leaves you. .I have loved Ska and Reggae all my life and it is so hard to pick a favourite but if I really had to it would definitely be Toots without a doubt. His music will live on forever.

Thanks Harri , haven’t heard Toots and the Maytals for ages! Makes me want to go to a West Indian Caribbean dance!! My girlfriends & I used to go dancing to the fantastic live Caribbean local bands in our city,on the weekend! We had so much fun. Toots had great songs and I didn’t know he had passed . RIP dear soul. I’m going to play some more ☮️💜

Awesome! Toots Hibbert, RIP! I saw them play in San Diego in the late eighties or maybe early nineties (memory is kinda fuzzy there, hehehe). When you're read for more from Toots and the Maytals check out "Pressure Drop", "Monkey Man", "Funky Kingston", "Louie Louie", and "Reggae Got Soul" among others.

Cracking tune this is. Nice too see someone enjoying it! Didnt know that either. Knew it was about a wedding. Actually met toots briefly and he was so so kind and bubbly. He struggled to understand me with my midland accent but never stopped smiling. His face said it all.

Saw Frederick Hibbert and the band in 2002 in Atlanta, with my brothers. We call this the Wedding Song and play it a lot. Etty has been to school and educated, her dad is telling her not to be anxious, she's too smart for that. One of my favorites. THANSK Harribest

Check out Toots’ other songs too like “Funky Kingston” and “Pressure Drop” among many others. He was one of the great ones. Another person I love in this genre is Desmond Dekker, especially his album “Black And Dekker”. There is a lot of great Reggae that, unfortunately, is not known by most people.

the clues i.e. cola wine indicate a very young couple who are doing the family right by marrying for their fooling around that resulted in pregnancy. Knowing the culture pretty well says a bar room setting is not a church where marriages are planned and this one is fast and free lol!! been longtime fan of this era reggae and Toots my fav.

Hi Harry! Glad you reacted to this one! I love these guys!! Have seen them a couple of times. As you said the energy is incredible!! Nothing will bring your spirits up like Toots! It seems like Raggae is an extremely under represented genre on reaction channels. You should try Reggaes got soul. Also maybe some Bob Marley, Ziggy Marley, Jimmy Cliff, all classic . Thanks for the smiles!!😁💕😁💕

Got to see him play on two separate occasions, and I’m glad I did. He certainly left his mark on the music world, particularly for reggae. Enjoyed your take on the lyrics, and your appreciation for this song going back to your childhood. It’s great to revisit those types of songs, and give them a listen with a fresh set of ears. After being introduced to Toots & The Maytals, this tune stuck out to me. For as simple & straightforward as the chords are, the vocals have an odd cadence, even within the beautiful melody & harmony, and the Jamaican patois of the lyrics make it difficult to hear everything about the story this song is telling, or describing an event. That all fascinated me, and I went down the rabbit hole on KZbin just now, looking up info on this track. It’s how I ended up at your video, so I hope you are enjoying the music in your life, and the “sweet & dandy” moments that happen now & then. Cheers!

The special pppl who love the marriage union, will likely glean a bit more from the lyrics..... "It's no wonder, it's a perfect ponder." Marriage for life is a ponder, a thought process we should embrace BEFORE we get married ! “The wedding cake and plenty plenty bottle of cola wine" are like Jesus 1st miracle of turning water into wine for a WEDDING. It's a 'perfect ponder' !! 🎉🎉🎉❤

Toots rhymes with boots. Toots does not rhymes with foots. Thank you for the good explanation. Toots and the Maytals is the only concert I've seen 3 times. It is sad no one will know the joyous event that is a Toots concert again. A video or a description cannot convey it!

I remember when Boris Johnson came down with covid my wife used say that "Johnson inna room afraid" in reference to this tune. Sadly we lost Toots Hibbert to that disease shortly after. The only other artist's death that made me similarly sad was Prince. Either of them struck me harder than some family members.

He will NEVER be forgotten, my friend. Thanks to my older brother, I grew up listening to Toots and the Maytals beginning at age 14 (1972) in my small town in Arizona. I still listen to them now while I am working out in my garage in a suburb of Phoenix, Arizona. Toots will live on forever in my heart.

Mom used to sing this song to me wen I was a teenager, or each time she attended a wedding she wud sing this song 😅 coz of nuff jokes and likkle gossip she wud hear about di bride and di groom's anxiety leading up to the wedding day. Nevertheless everyting was "Sweet and Dandy". Personally, as an adult with discerning ears, I could hear a huge influence of gospel music in this song. On research, I found out that they started out in church before they became famous. Can you hear the Jamaican Gospel music influence throughout all their music too?

I had the idea it's two people, a young girl and a sightly older fella (perhaps even linked through different generations from their respective families?) who just wanted to sneak off and have some fun. They had it and b00p, she's pregnant. So now her mum and dad are not having their reputation squandered by their misbehaving daughter (who maybe never gave a squeek about school in the first place) so they forced the man's family to get their guy Johnson into gear, which Johnson's elder auntie (and maybe uncle, if he has anything to say in auntie's household) has taken care of. These two don't even LIKE eachother, they just had nature get the better of them, but now Johnson the groom is paying for this lavish wedding (auntie crowbarred him into making sure it doesn't look like no shotgun wedding, no sir!) against his and her will. Meanwhile back at the ranch the whole wedding party, both families and their neighbours, all know what is going on, but hey, free cola wine, free cake, we've got a band playing -- let's have a ball: it maybe your nightmare, but we're having a whale of a time 🤣

You can't even say his name 'Toots' properly, let alone claim to know what this song is about - 'a perfect pander' (it's in the lyrics).

It is no wonder. It's a perfect ponder.
@genevievedolan12887 ай бұрын
I always thought it was about the young man and young woman were nervous about getting and all the guests having a good time. But I never knew what a perfect pander meant. Then I read that it means the marriage was arranged, and the pair really were not happy about it. Kind of takes away a bit of the joy in the song, so I hope I was misinformed about that.
