Specialist jungle warfare instructors from the Australia Army’s Combat Training Centre have been working closely with the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force in Tully.
The growing partnership between our Army and the JGSDF has led to their inaugural participation in jungle training in Australia, following the largest Exercise Southern Jackaroo to date. The training focused on the development of individual and team-based skills, tactics and interoperability needed to successfully operate, fight and win during combined jungle operations.
The Tully training area in North Queensland, Australia, is a premier jungle warfare training facility. It offers a challenging environment that closely replicates the tropical jungles of the Asia-Pacific region.

That’s bloody impressive that we’re now working along side the Japanese self defence force, well done all and congrats on getting through what looks like an arduous course.

The ADF developed their 'jungle fighting skills' fighting the Imperial Japanese Army in WWII... now we're re-training the Japanese SDF. The irony.

It may feel ironic but our security posture remains the same. In WW2 we fought against an autocratic expansionist power in our backyard alongside nations that share our values. In the looming next conflict, we would still be fighting against an autocratic expansionist power in our backyard alongside nations that share our values. It is Japan that has fundamentally transformed as a nation, not Australia's defence concerns.

Australia teaching the Japanese about jungle warfare. 80 years ago it was the Japanese who taught us. We are brothers now.

Reminded me of jungle training at Canungra in early 2000's just before Intelligence Corps took over.

1:12 what is this? Is this a specifically trained kind of movement or this dude personal thing going on. Seems pretty effective, that dude move super quick while staying low. Seemed quicker than the high crawl, but using more energy. Very cool.

I'm pretty sure this is a trained movement! I've seen this show up in a lot of JGSDF training photos where it's labelled as ほふく前進 (maybe 'crawling advance'?), neat to see footage of it too.

I am a Japanese SDF reservist. There are five types of crawling in the JGSDF, from No. 1 to No. 5. The crawling in the video is No. 1, where the right hand holds the rifle near the right hip, the left hand places the palm on the ground, the left knee is on the ground, and the right foot is placed on the ground to move forward.

I'm sorry, but this is a serious question. If you have an answer, let me know! If you had to oppose them, could there be a scarier jungle infantry team up than 🇦🇺 & 🇯🇵!?! As a student of WWII & modern force structure, I can't come close to thinking of one!

@screwyu1329 That's awesome! I don't really know anything about our jungle warfare capability, so you're light years more informed. I kinda think it would be a love it or hate it kinda place, depending on what type of person you are. I'm so ADHD I would be dangerous in a boring, safe environment. So I reckon I'd love the jungle, till it got properly cold 🤣

@@corvanphoenix It's an "interesting" place to work in. I found my situational awareness expanded and I started to feel as well as see, hear and smell what was happening around me. I miss that.
