I really appreciate the poor / simple graphics of these early 3D games, they have a beautiful aesthetic. It really engages the imagination and transports you into a different world.

Wow... that game looks nice. I love that style of graphics and those towers on the left/right side. Reminds so much of the time when this graphical style was en vogue.

The Amiga theme for this game is quite memorable. One of my favorite chip tunes.

They also did an amazing game called Total Eclipse in 1988.

Is there a way to reduce screen tearing with these games? A lot o DOS games seem to suffer from this and there is no vsync option that works.
@Pixelmusement4 жыл бұрын
It should be noted that DOSBox 0.74-3 does not do well when vsynced and other branches of DOSBox which support vsync are only vsyncing their own output; they do not change the vsync behaviour of the game in question, plus many computer monitors nowadays run 60 Hz, but old DOS games using VGA will be syncing at 70 Hz. Getting perfect sync in a DOS game is nearly impossible with emulation, though your results will vary by each game you try.

could someone texturise this game
@lordterra13776 жыл бұрын
That would ruin it's primitive charm. These early games would look weird with low res textures.
@Pixelmusement6 жыл бұрын
+Lord Terra You say "ruin" but really all you'd be doing is changing the aesthetic, thus some people would prefer it that way while others would prefer the original textureless version. Also, for reference, Driller is another game which used this same engine which I do believe had a modern remake! :o
@lordterra13776 жыл бұрын
+Pixelmusement My reasoning behind my comment is that most prefer the dos version of Mechwarrior 2. It has a surreal charm that is missing in the later and numerous 3D accelerated releases. Which just look chunky, odd, and dated. A game like Castlemaster was never textured, like many of these early 3d games. So it be a bit odd to create a version no one remembers? But a spiritual successor with textures I would certainly get behind in supporting! :) A port of Freescape engine does exist, also that Driller remake can be found on the Internet wayback machine. It's packed using a program called Molebox.

@@lordterra1377 Completely agree! I still make my 3D games with solid colors because I'm a weirdo that loved this era of 3D. Remember Seal Team? That game was amazing at the time!
@lordterra13775 жыл бұрын
@@PlasticCogLiquid Seal Team was awesome and tense. Took me years to figure out how to use the choppers. Never tell them to attack, just have them move close to where the enemy is and they will engage. If you issue an attack they will instantly kill the point man.

It's worth something now? I bought this game for $5 at a Kmart. I think I threw it away, didn't even try to sell it.

+Tim Chesnut Retro gaming prices have been going up considerably over the past decade as more people get into it and less copies of things are floating around. You can still get really good deals if you search around and aren't looking for specific games, but the moment you want a SPECIFIC game, that's when you're gonna need to expect higher prices due to limited availability, high demand, or worst case, both.

What copy of the game did you have, the amiga port?
