My wife introduced me to this song about 50 years ago. It just popped into my head in the "wee small hours" this morning. It still makes me smile.

remember playing this as my mates and I and our girls cleared up my parents house after my 21 party they went offv for the weekend after they found that an older freind of mine a right bruiser would be there as they liked him , they knew that any one who tried to gatecrash would be beaten to a pulp

I have this song and 3 others on a glossy sleeve EP. They and a number of LP's were my Dad's, sent to him by his eldest brother. Gave great pleasure to a Bristolian living in New Zealand. I keep them as a tribute to my Dad

Yeah, in "bleeder" would have been considered a bit strong for release on a single in 1966!

@talbothime Aar. Oi still think it's "bleeder". There's now a recent LIVE version on KZbin, by the current post-Adge band (they're still going) but they do a totally different "fill" at that point - so THAS no help!!

Haha, yeah, I can understand why the BBC wouldn't allow that...of course, it isn't nearly as bad as the content on the television now. I do like the fact that it sounds like an ol' campfire song :)

Have this on vinyl, plays as new but still has the bleeped out word, whatever it was it was mild compared with an L.P. a mate of mine had in the 1960s,,no bleeping out on this, Why was he born so beautiful by the Jock Strap Ensemble.Rugby songs. Why the bleep?who knows, still a great and funny song, thanks or putting on utube, crackles and all.

amd64alan It SOUNDS like "bleeder" - a word PERMITTED by Auntie, on "Steptoe & Son" - but EMI apparently blanched at it!

revived45s You are right about the word bleeder , steptoe and son was a very funny program ,never understood the idiots who felt tje need to censor what we listened to or watched I was in my teens in the 1960s ,best era ever ,both blokes and girls knew and u?sed every so called obscene word known , so why the censor, who did they think they were protecting ?

@Matt571 Possibly - on an album. I'm guessing the bleeped word was "bleeder"! Mild indeed - but then, it was 1966!

@talbothime It seems like the unbleeped version was never released! I know what you mean about it being 1966, the bgleeped word does sound like "bleeder".

He he. Just discovered that the word "wurzel" originates from German, and means "root". Geddit? 😁

@@stephensnell5707 Uh-uh. Not the case back in '67. Everyone thought the Pythons were being tremendously risque (and lucky not to be censored) a few years afterwards when the final line in the Spanish Inquisition episode was "oh bugger".
