For adults with ADHD, the world of work can be one of their biggest challenges. However, innovative employers are increasingly understanding the value added by employees with ADHD. How do you balance between the burden of ADHD and the advantages it can bring at work? This is what Dr. Dora Wynchank will be talking about with our host, Hans van de Velde.

I am so pleased i happened to find this lecture as I currently wait for my assessment in the UK i am really struggling with sleep and work. I didn't realise more than 9hours sleep would negatively impact things.

If it’s not a disability, it should be. I’m 59 and finally figured out why I’ve struggled for my whole life. I’ve been called a multipotentialist/multihyphenate or polymath. The two together are hell when working for a “regular” company. But at home, my life is full of daily learning, projects, experiments, hobbies and so on. At least now, these things are recognized. I was a nurse but only worked low patient ratios in cutting edge areas so it would keep me interested and challenged. Sleep is a problem too. And menopause exacerbates it. Keto diet, exercise, and HRT for women help a lot.

Wonderful workshop! Thank you so much for sharing that information with us. And Dora is so lovely and smart ❤ awesome talk! I always noticed that I am different at work but I couldn’t understand why. I see a big picture, I can be super creative and see things that others don’t see, my hyper focus helps to make things quickly when needed and spot on a lot of things. At the same time I have all those disadvantages that you described. And they always made me frustrated and I do have low self-esteem because of that. Funny enough, I work as a Test Manager leading several teams of Software Testing Engineers. And I am a really good leader who is able to make things happen and inspire the team. But as a manager, I need to make extra effort to fit all those regulations and expectations from the managerial position.

The remark about being succesful with adhd smacks of survivalship bias. Let's face it there's a good chance those who are on the streets with drug issues could have undiagnosed adhd too.

@@kokfesk4432....I know many who don't have trouble with addictions. Not at all. I have no problems at all with it. Nothing.

I think it's ok to be a survivor. I'm pretty sure I am ADHD, but I see it as a strength. Maybe I am delusional, but how did civilization survive without diagnoses and meds ? I think it's ok to adapt bc you have to (some say evolve) and live with the rest. Take meds if you want, but those who choose not to for whatever reason, that is their choice. Live and let live.

Since the Covid lockdowns, my sleep pattern has changed. I find it difficult to fall asleep before 1 am. Now, I see the negative effects of this, but I have realised that I might be ADHD. I am waiting for an assessment.

Also women mask. Shopping can be an issue because it’s a creative outlook and everything has a story. But I find in my family it’s thrift shopping in particular. I have 3 sibs and a mother with ADHD, my daughter has adhd, and I have adhd.

Did Mendeleyev not come up with the table after a period of strict isolation during his wakening hours? Sleep apnea happens in standard weight/size people and thin people too. There is an increase in people who aren't 'obese' being diagnosed with it. They are not 'careless' mistakes. We care very much, but we can't help but make those mistakes.

I have applied for several federal jobs in the United States, and it is considered a disability on the federal job application. As far as state to state, I’m not sure if it’s employer-based or state-based.
